Sentarou was Ai's cousin. Everybody in the village hated ai but him and Ai's family. They had a sacrifice every 10 years to bring the village prosperity and they chose Ai as sacrifice because no one liked her. The parents of Ai secretely talked to Sentarou to help them hide Ai so she wouldnt die wich he did but some years later they were found and the village was so angry at them for tricking them into believing the sacrifice was made, that they decided to bury Ai and his parents alive
Part of the reason they buried Ai and her parents alive was because they'd had a terrible run of luck with thier harvests since they made the sacrifice so when they discovered the sacrifice wasn't actually carried out they thought the gods must be angry with them and thats why thier crops were failing. So they made a second sacrifice giving the gods the sacrifice they were promised as well as the traitors who had denied it to them. They hoped this would quell the gods anger and bring back a bountiful harvest
To bury Ai and her* parents alive. Except that they killed her parents with a shovel and left her knocked out, waking up to find Sentarou being forced to drop the first piece of dirt on her. She then resurects and burns the shit out of everyone except Sentarou.
She still harboured a grudge against him, as she attacked his descendents centuries later. It seems he was just lucky to have been away from the village when Ai set it ablaze.
Sentarou made the wrong and regret it for the rest of his life. He even build a temple for the sacrifice victims with his fortune. Sentarou wasn't a bad person he was just overwhelmed by a desperate situation. Not to mention back then people belief the grain dying because no sacrifice is made
Yes cuz ironically sentarou is the only person enma would never hurt besides her family..i think, because everyone else bullying her,accusing her but sentarou believes in her no matter what.
@@beizanten1sentarou is forced by the peers and the situation was never fortunate enough for him or anyone else to save enma. Those villagers is mad for believing that there is no crops coz of no sacrifice they're all deserves that punishment from enma.
Yeah, Sentaro's dad was fine with sacrificing his own 7-year-old niece because he was more worried about the village than his own family. Also, they needed the crops to pay the lousy shogun for taxes. @nadyanathaaney
During the older times, people were more limited to intelligence, seeing something they don't understand usually calls them to claim it as witchcraft, like in Medieval times...

Eeehhh no... Yuuko did have it hard but she got locked by people she didn't really care about and then simply became a ghost who later made a friend with whom she could be herself. Enma got buried alive and the first person to throw dirt was her best friend. Then she is forced to kill people and take them to hell even if some victims did not deserve it. She also has to watch the cruelty of humanity for all the eternity and can't act normal. To sum it up, Enma had it much worse.
I think That Because Last time Sentarou told Ai Whether they wanna run out of the village ..? That kinda means a bit like " This village stinks lets get outa here " Sentoura Laugh because finally this village is gone but he is felt sad and regreted because of emma .

@@anonymous-sn8brnot so much evil, but dumb. They were freaking out about not having enough crops to pay off the tax collectors for rheir resources and they had to watch a wailing infant starve because it's mom was also starving by not producing enough milk.
@mimichet When she burned down her village, the lives were too many to count and for her grudge to work, she has to pay the same amount of souls (or something of the sort) since her soul alone isn't enough (like...one life=one soul) so now she has to collect souls and send them to hell to match her debt
Exactly how many people do you think she killed in that village? I am not entirely familiar with this show. I only saw a couple episodes maybe a few years ago, so I dont know the full extent of the people in her village. From what I saw, it looked to only be.... maybe 300 to 400 villagers by the size of the town. Correct me if I am wrong and there are lots of more people. But shouldnt she be free if she sends the exact number of people to hell that she killed in the village?

In Mitsuganae, Enma Ai tried to recruit a dead soul, Yuzuki to become the next Hell Girl. Yuzuki instead trying to send unapproved soul to Hell when she become Hell Girl. Enma Ai take Yuzuki punishment instead and become Hell Girl forever.
sounds like almost every horror Asian story background. sweet gets treated like shit and sweet girl dies because of being treated like shit and sweet girl becomes ghost that kills people
When I saw this on anime Network on demand stop playing the video and sat there for a second in shock This wasn't still is one of the most messed-up things I have ever seen anime What makes this so messed up is that you know damned well this kind of sacrifice did happen donelan ancient Japan but also across the world(we humans capable of inhuman things for the worst reasons despite the fact we are capable of reason)
Even though i love ''Hell girl'' it was stupid of her to hurt Setarou...he loved her...but he couldn't protect her that time, no matter how hard he tried.
When someone is buried alive with their family, its unfair to expect them to be understanding about it. I would have done the exact same thing if I were in her place.

This is really sad and dramatic. But hinestly why didnt they just runaway when they hadvthe chance. A few days after the first "sacrifice" the parents could have disappeared with Ai.
@mimichet Emma Ai was given a second chance but spent it for vengeance, she was then cursed to cleanse the world of suffering and until that happens, she was fated to be hell girl.

this is so sad! i think its sad cuz its believable, like i dont know much about asian culture, but i have a feeling that they did stuff like that for real. Its creepy and its so real to me. :(
Lot of people damning the villagers. What they did was pretty awful but we know for a fact that this is a universe where hell exists, demons exists, ghosts and yokai exists, ect. Whose to say their mountain god wasn't real? Whose to say that the reason their crops continued to suffer was because their sacrifice, Ai, failed and lived in secret for years? Shitty situation all around, they were doomed from the start.
I think ai was a bit weak to just fully relied on sentaro to defend her all the time he just a boy there isn't much he can do she should have just left sooner with her family before sentaro even decide to leave with her weaknesses and over reliance on him also put him in danger it also kind off let to her downfall the villagers killed her and her family and sentaro was forced to betrayed her but just fully relying on a boy seriously Is never wise it also put him in danger ai parents should have take more initiative to defend their daughter and left sooner when the villagers were sleeping /not suspicions instead of fully relying on a boy they had years to do it what were they thinking?
She did not bring the butterfly to life. Enma Ai said it was not dead. People thought she was an evil spirit because children thought that being able to bring back dead thing to life was unusual and so the teasing ensued and became the reality for people in the village. The believed in a lie. Enma Ai only became Hell Girl for suscepting herself in great anger against the people. Basically, their universe is fucked up.

Ai is so freakin half scary half beautiful in this part 8:28 X3 but I was sad cuz of her past.. And it wasn't Enma's fault that their crops had wrotten .. maybe they just don't give it TLC XD
