Smart weed-killing robots are here and could soon reduce the need for herbicides and genetically modified crops. Swiss company EcoRobotix has a solar-powered robot that can work for up to 12 hours detecting and destroying weeds. Ecorobotix says the robot uses 20 times less herbicide than traditional methods. Blue River Technology has a See and Spray robot that uses a library of images to identify differences between plants and weeds. The robot learns and improves as it operates.

I wonder how long it will take to manufacture a model to use for weeds around an average home? Imagine how much time and labor that would save! It would allow older people who love gardening to take care of their flower and vegetable gardens longer into their older ages feeling more productive since this task can at times be the most overwhelming part of taking care of the home.

Chemical companies have to worry, no more round up. But this is only step one. Install this machine with seedfeeders with different kind of plants ,we can avoid monoculture and heavy machines on th fields. And install approbiate harvestingtechnologi . And bring the price down! Thats a way to stop killing the inviroment.

Meh, there are other chemicals that they can switch to.

I think a lot of people don't understand how impressive this really is. ^^;; Currently, the entire crop is sprayed with a herbicide that specifically attacks weeds. It would be cool to pull the weeds of course, but that is a very different and much more complex operation. What this is doing is reducing the amount of "poison" that is getting sprayed into the soil while being powered by solar. It's also going to be using a machine learning to detect which plants (amongst other plants) is the correct plan to spray.. It really is very impressive.. In terms of technical needs for a robot that would pull the weeds it discovers, the amount of energy would be a great great many times higher. This robot will be working a motor for the pump and some motors for the delta arm assembly. The motors would need to be scaled a great deal to withstand the torque needed for a weed pulling robot. It would also need a way to replace soil/tamp it down/etc.. I definitely think this could be done and would be awesome, but I don't think you could make it solar powered and I don't think it would be fast enough to attract people operating a large scale operation.

I went to UC Davis and they have had these for 6+ years now. While this is cool in theory, what I would really like to see is a commercial version of this, that is reasonably priced. This one is not commercially available yet either. Also, this isn't as cool as the UC Davis robots. They dont spray herbicide, they shoot the weeds with lasers and burn them to death. IMO this is a better approach.

Many weeds are herbal medicine. We can identify and replant separately. In India it is possible.

This is insane. If the robot can detect the actual weed then who not pull it out or chop it mechanically? It just needs a gripper arm or some cutting head.

Mechanical extraction is not reliable and difficult to automatise.

Why spray poison and not use a robotic arm to "pluck" the herb?
@rahulpatidar9905
@rahulpatidar9905 3 месяца назад
Because there are chances of regrowing of plucking weed in the field..rather than this.. There should be a way to pluck and keep that weed in other bag so that all the weeds can dispose later on

Seems like overspray would get on your plants. Zap the weeds with laser beams.

That poison is still soaked up by the soil and at the end of the harvest it's tilled with the other soil and as a result the new crops are grown in poisoned soil, no?
@kishoresrimat

Yeah pull the weed.why to add chemical to ground.

Ok, Kishore, I will hire you to pull weeds. How many hundreds of acres can you do a day?
@kishoresrimat
@kishoresrimat 3 года назад
@@jolynnmidcap6234 I am glad you have asked this question. Try using Masanobu Fukuoka method initially for one hundred acres for couple of years. In 3-5 years time you will make that land no tilting land for weeds and in long term it will save lot of money. These methods you are using is not sustainable to your pockets and earth. Masanobu Fukuoka methods will never give you loss unlike modern farming methods where you are dependent on bigger companies.
