I've had the hydra 26 for about 2 months. Never was good with understanding the settings at what they should be at. After I watched this video and followed ur settings, you made my tank go from a 0 to 10! It looks fantastic!!! I feel like I should have paid admission to watch this!
I'm glad it helped. The schedule that you downloaded from the website is a little outdated as there are newer models of the actual lights out now and that was from a few years ago. So that schedule doesn't transfer very well to the newer lights. I recommend manually adjusting the royal blue to match the cool blue since it's most likely currently at 0. This is because the original Prime and Hydras didn't have that royal blue setting.
Hello! Thank you so much for adding this video. This is one of the best tutorials out there that explains the setup so clearly. I used this as a baseline to set mine for my BioCube 16. What an immediate change in the coloration. You have a great nano-cube and its really an inspiration :-) Thanks for all your good, informative videos.
Thank you very much Karen:) Your simple tutorial saved hours of my life. I have very similar tank and purchased the Prime HD today, so this film was Very Very helpful for me.
Great Video!!!, My three Hydra's 26HD just arrived, I installed them and I was so lost on how to setup the schedule, thank you so much for making this video, your a life saver!
Much thanks for posting! I have an AI Prime and have been confused about setting the schedule. Very helpful! Also, I follow you on instagram and your tank is BEAUTIFUL!
I can't for the life of me understand why AI does not have simple tutorials on this as well as a complete section on their site that is dedicated to video tutorials on their products. I mean aren't they owned by Ecotech now which HAS a plethora of how to videos on their products?? SMH anyhow, thanks for saving me the grief of attempting to contact them for this!
Ditto, I was very confused with my new light even though I had been working the their Director previously. Frustrated might be a better word than confused. I finally wrote to Support, and they sent me to Karen. Hurray.
hey Karen .I just bought a prime 16HD and found you on their signature page . this video is more comprehensive than the ones they have on their channel lol . I tried to make my own Schedule but didn't get how it works so I used your preset . will see how I like it and adjust if needed. thanks for sharing. great tank btw.
They should at least ask your permission if theyre going to use it for their business. ** Quick question Ms Karen, would the Lunar still work if I put everything to 0% at 4am-7am? Thanks!
Nano Karen, I mean will it work till the time where i have 0%? Say I have 3% from sunset till 4am. Then 0% 4am-7am cause i want it totally off during that period. I just want the lunar to work from sunset-4am. Thanks 🙏
Just tested it, Lunar will work till the time you set and assign 0%, where it will turn off(totally no lights). For example, leave 3% of Blue from Sunset to 4AM, then 0% from 4AM to Sunrise. Lunar works from Sunset-4am, then from 4am to Sunrise there will be no light at all.
Hey Nano Karen, appreciate the tutorial on this, as stated in one of your earlier comments above ai instructions and break downs are pretty bad, so this was super helpful. Tysm! - I do have a question perhaps this is a dumb one but will this lighting be suffice for bta’s? Just got one a week ago and it really sprouted out and wanted to know if this change would effect him/her when I adjust to your schedule.
They changed the app. As of 2019 you can’t look at your time and colors at the same time so you can’t just click a certain time and extend a specific color. I’m completely lost
Right its really confusing and some reason my is set for 8AM and it turns on at 3:50 am how do you get it to stop that? Just got this light and I'm ready to return it
CJ'S AQUARIUMS I don't think so, the yellow coris wrasse goes in the sand around the same time every night and the clowns hover over the torches. Even most of the corals have all gotten used to the schedule and close up during the night.
@@nano_karen after trying every possible schedule I could get my hands on, yours fit my personal requirements on timing and light. This said, Im very pleased. Thanks, KV!
Hello Karen, thank you so much for this schedule! I would like to run it with my lights.I do have 1 question, my tank is a Red Sea e260. Currently my light schedule is uv-40% violet-55% royal blue-105% blue-100% cw-15% with a 4 hour ramp time.Do you think I should use acclimation when I reset to your light settings?
Luann Hufnagle you're welcome! I would recommend that you use acclimation. It's better to play it safe. At least 25% reduction for 2 to 3 weeks would be okay.
Hi this was super helpful as I just picked up this light yesterday. Just a quick update, are you still using the same settings for your prime? Or have you changed any of your settings recently and why. Thank you for your time.
Thank you for this! I went back and forth umpteen times with AI customer service and NO ONE could tell me the function of the orange timer line. They kept saying, "its to set the time." And I kept saying, "yes, but WHAT time? What does it actually do?" They couldn't answer and to tell you the truth, it's made me quite unhappy with the Prime I have because I'm 100% sure I'm not setting it properly. Thus, I'm not getting the most out of the features for the price it is. Oh well, rant over. 🙄 I went with a kessil ap700 on the new build and will likely sell the Prime with the system it's on currently. But at least now I have a clue what the orange timer bar is about. 😬
Reefgrrl wow sorry your customer service experience wasn't pleasant. I actually had to contact them because I was having trouble connecting my new AI Hydra 26s (they kept connecting as children to the AI Prime but I wanted them to be independent) and they were very helpful. But I'm glad the video helped, maybe for future reference.
Glad to hear thanks! The reason I had them at zero was because at the time I had algae issues and those two colors contribute to its growth. That being said, they also contribute to coral growth and are beneficial to include. I use them now with my current setup but keep them at no more than 15%
My blue lights somehow come on later in the evening when I don't want them to. How would you do the same set up you did except no lunar and having no lights at all from 9PM until say 6AM?
Thank you Karen, I forgot to mention that I have zoas, palys and lps (torch). I will stay with those until I get more experienced with corals. Are your light settings ok with softies and lps?Thank you again for your advice.
Hey trying to find something out about the ai prime HD light. When it ramps up or down. How dose it switch over. Is it suddenly or slowly? Help please.
I thought that AI said your settings have to be at least 5% or above in order for the lunar setting to work. Anything less than 5% isn't enough room mathematically for the lower percentages to work I believe.
Luann Hufnagle you're very welcome. I'm actually setting up a 65 gallon as well with 2 AI Hydra 26s and I'll be trying out this same schedule. I may have to adjust it a little later depending on how corals react.
Hey Karen . Can you tell me approximately how tall your tank is ? I am using your setup for my evo 13.5 but I know your tank is taller so I have to adjust a few things . Thanks in advance.
Hi Karen 1st. Things 1st. Thank u for sharing your great video's and info.new subscriber here. Look for some help I just bought two AI Aqua illumination HD26 and I'm use a preset schedule from one of the forms but it's super long I like my light on at 9ish or 10a.m and would like for them to shut down at 9p.m. any idea on how to shorten this preset schedule thanks in advance
Hi Edward. Thanks for watching. You can shorten the schedule by sliding the already existing timers to a different time. Maybe you can remove some as well. It's a bit hard to help without looking at the schedule. If you're on Instagram you can send me a few screenshots of it and I can give you some pointers then.
Hope it works for you! If you plan on using the lunar feature they do have to be on at least for a few hours to overnight but you can definitely edit those overnight timers to zero them out if you don't plan on using the lunar option and have your lights completely turn off by a certain time.
Hey Karen, I'm a little lost I just setup the prime and assume I should acclimate for the next couple of weeks not certain though what settings to have each light while in acclimate mode? Thanks!
Jeffrey D'silva hi, I'd recommend setting up the schedule you plan on using and then switching in acclimation mode. If you click on acclimation you'll be able to set temporary reduction of your lights and how long the acclimation process will last. I'd start it at least at 50% reduction and acclimate for at least 3 weeks. You can do more if you want.
acclimate mode just knocks down whatever settings you put in by 20-30%. When you put it on this mode, you will see your settings get lowered by a %. So set it where you like it, so when done acclimating, it will go to the original setting
I have the same tank and was able to set it up with her guide. Since I have the moonlight on my ai prime 16hd, I avoided the luner setting and added moonlight at 8% all night.
hello karen just happend to see this video and no lie i just did the setting just like yours..my question is how do i set it to my original time meaning iam in new york and the time is deffrent
May I have your preference lighting setting hydra 26hd? Currently, there are 2 units HD26 for my tank which the size is L3ft, D2ft, W2ft. purely LPS, plus fish.
Dannis Chong for your lps tank you can use this schedule but since the Hydras are stronger lower the peaks. Here's what I'm running my Hydras at: V and B 50%, RY 60%, DR and G 10%, and UV and CW 30%
another part still confusing me is "UV", I heard that we shouldn't raise this reading more than 10%, actually what exactly function play in this "UV"? BTW, how many hrs should i set based on your setting above? 4 or 8hrs?
Dannis Chong the UV is just part of the spectrum, I've been running it from 30% up to 60% with no I'll effects. It is possible to harm your corals if it's too high but 10% is low in my opinion. As for the duration of your schedule, I wouldn't recommend an 8 hour peak, a 4 to 5 hour peak with a couple hours ramp up and down is enough. Unless you wanted to use only blues like I did for a couple hours after your initial peak.
Thanks! Hey is there a way to make or adjust a schedule while your lights are on there current intensity? I don’t like while making a schedule my lights turn off - I feel rushed then. Thanks!
I don't think so. When I'm editing the schedule it also goes to the settings I'm currently working on. I don't mind it I think it's better because you can see what it looks like as you go.
Karen Vazquez yea you’re right that makes sense - one other question. The longer your ramp time is, does that mean it will blend more from one color/intensity to the next color/intensity? I never used a schedule, I’ve always manually changed them throughout the day - but I’m thinking my fish and corals would be happier being on an actual schedule
@@gino.from.chicago yeah having a set schedule is better. Your fish actually get used to a schedule and stability is important. For longer ramps it means smoother transition but I like having the blues on a little longer at the end of the day because it's my favorite setting and as it ramps down my corals start closing up for the night and my wrasse goes into the sandbed.
Karen Vazquez what kind of Wrasse do you have? I been looking and looking for one to add - too many too beautiful! I love the sand sleepers - it still trips me out when I see that! Lol I was thinking a six line for tank benefits but worried about aggression - Melanarus or a leopard Wrasse would be my next choice or maybe some type of fairy. I have a RSR 250 - pair of Clowns, Midas blenny, four stripe damsel and a Cleaner Shrimp. Interested what you suggest? Thanks again 😉
@@gino.from.chicago I have a Melanurus wrasse. They're peaceful, sand sleepers, and great for pest control. Not to mention the beautiful colors. Definitely recommend 👍
Hello Karen, thank you for sharing with us your schedule. I am new with this i have a 14 gallon and the AI Prime. would you be able to show a little more? or pm me? i have an iPhone for the controller.
@@miguelsalty oh no worries and thank you. Well I actually no longer have this tank running! Sorry! I did try keeping my calc around 400, alk around 8, and mag I can't remember. Do a little research on ideal reef tank parameter. That helped me a lot
If i purchased these lights as an upgrade to my JBJ 28 g. How long would it take the coral to acclimate to this schedule? Should i set the schedule the same as yours and then turn on the acclimation setting for how long?
Manuel Martinez you can do it either way but acclimation mode is easier. I think the app's default settings are 50% and 3 weeks. Which is what I would have recommended, you can make the acclimation period longer though which is also okay. What types of corals do you have?
Thank you! and thanks for taking the time to make this video, it really helped a lot in choosing a schedule that someone else has used and its proven to work.
Hi Karen! Thanks so much for this tutorial! It was great and easy to follow. I'm new to the aquarium hobby. I have a Red Sea Reefer 170 that's about 7 months old now. It's AWESOME to have a female role model for the hobby! Girls RULE! How can I connect with you if I'm one of the few people in the world NOT on Instagram? Are you on FaceBook? Please let me know. Thanks!
Hi Karen . I have a tank with 3 hydra 26 hd ( 350l or 87.5 g) .is a mixed tank with more lps than sps . Can I use your preset that I download on site of aquaillumination . Tank you
I am already use a 26 with my preset (6 mouths) . Do you think that I have to use acclimation however I’m using my preset? Tank you very much for your attention !
AI Prime or Hydra 26 or Ecotech Marine Radion xr15 or xr30.. The smaller ones like the prime or xr15 are fine for the nano but if you plan on growing only sps you may want more power. Even so, the smaller ones should still be fine.
Yes, since I've got some elevated nitrates and phosphates on this current tank (28 gal.) I run 0% red and green to prevent nuisance algae. If your no3 and po4 is controlled you can use red and green. I will be running them at up to 20% on my new 65 gallon as I will be able to control those levels better than on my 28 gallon.
Alfredo Brito no I'm sorry, I only made the Apple version. The android app isn't too different. If you want to add a timer you just use the "+" button.
Almost a year with this light and still wont work on auto mode. Wish i could set it amd forget it. I manually turn it on every single day. I hate this app crap from AI
Amanda...... To exit store demo mode, factory reset the light. To perform a factory reset, hold the button down on the light for 10 seconds, until the indicator LED flashes red. Upon release, the light will reset and reboot. The reset is complete when the indicator LED starts flashing blue/green.
@@nano_karen Will it work well with softies? i have a bunch of hammers, 2 torchs, frogspawns, a birds nest, and an elegance coral....is your schedule ideal on my 75 gallon using 2 hydra fiftytwo hd's?
JAFRe no, I'm actually not using an AI Prime anymore since I broke down my nano tank. I'm running 2 AI Hydras on my 65 gallon now. The schedule is a little different since I'll be trying out different types of corals, mainly sps and lps now as opposed to lps and softies for which I used this schedule.
