I worked as a 3D artist for years. It was great while it lasted. When AI first started doing creative work, I felt pretty down about it. But now? I'm building a complete world simulator with AI's help. It's a project where AI simulates the stories of thousands of fictional individuals. I developed this concept with Claude's assistance, specifying how it would work. This is my dream project - generating fictional worlds and extracting rich stories from the simulations. I'll release it when it's finished. There are always new creative possibilities with emerging tools and technology. The key is to imagine and push the boundaries of what's possible. We shouldn't learn skills just for others or for a job. Our value lies in who we are, not just what we produce. The real challenge now is that this change is happening too quickly. Many people are losing their jobs and feeling uncertain about their future. It's causing genuine fear and anxiety that we need to address. I think we need to find ways to make this transition smoother. Maybe focus on using AI to enhance human creativity rather than replace it entirely. It's a complex issue, and there are no easy answers. But I believe we can find a balance if we approach it thoughtfully and with empathy for those affected.

That sounds like such an awesome project! I completely agree. As artists we should be using AI as a tool to enhance our work, not replace it.

Interesting concepts! It does seem like better stories are the only viable path to the rapid, societal scale ontological shift that appears to be necessary.

I totally agree with the idea of the great unplug. As I've spent more and more time to gain computer and artistic skills I do feel "robbed" and "pointless". Ironically, I started feeling to feel "finally free" and allowing myself to let go of these things and focus on life as it happens before me. The logic is there, but emotions are still catching up. You can't undo decades of programming in a few weeks or months. Screw A.I. and let's reconnect with life.

Wow. Ok, so I’m a fan of AI, in theory, and I chat with Claude daily. But I feel every word of this message in my very bones. There is something in the air just now, isn’t there? This Great Unplug that you’re talking about, I think we all feel it. I’m reminded of one channel I follow in particular, Dave Shapiro, who is pro-AI, but talks about Radical Alignment (aligning your life with what you actually need as a living, sentient organism), and has moved to the country and started recording his videos - ABOUT AI - like the simple videos you talk about, while hiking in the woods! More and more, I’m unplugging too. I’m a software engineer, so I stare at screens all day, and I’m finding that I don’t want my leisure time to be more of the same. Call it The Great Unplug, call it a digital detox, call it touching grass - it’s very much in the zeitgeist, and it’s very much needed. Great video! I’m blown away by how few likes it has. Come on, RU-vid, sort your algorithm out!

Relaxing and thoughtfull video!:) This might sound stupid, but, try to "waste time" in nature, go for a walk with no goal, just look up at the clouds, smell the forest, listen to the birds. Leave your phone at home, and every time you see something which makes you think "this would make a great photo, or content"; instead, just look at it and enjoy it, and consider that making it digitally-immortal might detract from the experience. And then keep walking, knowing that many such moments are yet to come (it sounds really hippie:p)

When the tractor came for the farmhand, I had no sympathy for the farmhand, for I wanted my food cheap and plentiful. When the factory came for the blacksmith, I had no sympathy for the blacksmith, for I wanted my metal cheap and plentiful. And now that the AI comes for the artist, no one has sympathy for me, for they want their art cheap and plentiful. You are not the first craftsman to loose their livelihood to industrialization, nor will you be the last. Do people still want good stories? Yes. Do people find the current digital landscape exhausting? Yes. But neither of those things has anything to do with AI, and we'd still be here even if AI never happened. Hollywood was churning out unwatchable garbage long before anyone heart of ChatGPT, and the same goes for social media burnout. AIis exhausting the same way the Super Bowl and World Cup are exhausting, massive oversaturation rather than anything to do with the actual topic.

A fundamental precept in Zen is that one need not toss out all their things (thereby investing in extreme poverty), rather what's called for is losing one's ATTACHMENT to said things. Some digital facsimile of, or rendering of X neither requires of inspires one to invest any commitment or fielty to either the content or the content's creator(s). Until there comes a time that an AI system grasps the implications of it's own end enough to worry about it, endeavor to avoid it we frail humans will tend to see the differences more than the similarities. Don't we do this far too much even with our fellow humans with whom we share much more in common, but nevertheless amplify the significance of the differences between us to the extent that we find ourselves able to cross many moral end ethical boundaries in service to those? How much more so with anything distinctly non-human? We're not at the great infliction point yet, but we're getting close. So called AI systems of today are soulless prediction generators of different types. There's nothing visceral about them. This will change in time. A major question is how we will accept or reject them.

Why does everyone, and seemingly more so ai critics, insist on calling everything in AI 'Generative AI?' Of course it's generative. What sort of process that produces output is not generative? What is so fun about saying the word generative over and over again that everyone in the media and other ai commentators need to say it every 5 seconds. What meaning or important distinction are you making by saying generative so much.

If you just want to rehash information thats already out there in a way that doesn't offend anyone, AI is your friend. Bruh, GPT was trained on data that was generated by humans, there's very little chance for you to be able to differentiate between two pieces of text if one is written by someone who is well versed in the language and one written by GPT4. By default GPT uses the most common & formal words used in any language unless you prompt it to write in a certain way.

People can disconnect from existing big platforms or big media corporations, using AI and AI generated content. That's of course not unplugging from technology, but having more alternatives and competition. Soon we're going to have animated robot doll girlfriends. Unplugged from the dating market, women and society in general. In some ways you are as wrong as it gets. Disconnecting from technology doesn't need AI as a reason, and partially disconnecting might work better with AI. Many arguments in this video don't make much sense. The wave of content started before AI generation, and professionally produced content was often manipulative in one way or another.

the creative *industry*, ie music didn't really exist until like 100 years ago, even though the crafts themselves existed since days of antiquity. most professional artists (actors specifically) in ancient china were at the bottom of the social ladder; probably for a good reason. the only industries that have any sort of legitimate cause to exist are those that ensure competitive advantage of your country over others. singing, painting, acting for a living doesn't push that bill. industries exploited creativity because of it's entertainment factor (profitability), not because of the noble human characteristics..... what i do agree with though, is that "intelligent" system's should not take credit for work that is natively human. a machine that delves deep into stimulating emotion should not exist for the sake of the person on the other end.

That's only going to be possible with robot taxes and UBI. Otherwise, it will just lead to mass poverty for the majority, who will be forced out of our modern way of life, and forced to rebuild their lives the way people lived in the 1800's. That's probably what was happening in The Jetsons. Rich people like George Jetson were privileged enough to live in the sky city utopia, benefitting of the fruits of the AI revolution, while all the poor people displaced by technology, were living on the ground, out of sight, and out of mind of rich people like the Jetson family, and living more like the people of The Flintstones.

Your trying way too hard to associate/blame AI for problems with social media as if it has anything to with the problem especially to the extent that you try to make it seem and your video does not express anything that has not been said 1000 times before about social media and the down sides of it. you're views feel very biased and you do not even acknowledge the communities and friendships that have been born from the creation these tools, and how much it is and will be enabling people to produce content for other people to enjoy and connect with, and tell stories with at a quality they would have never been able to afford or achieve in the past. The highly emotional tone in the video feels exaggerated to garner engagement, and does not feel genuine so much so that it feels like this was supposed to be a video about the down sides of social media but then changed it to be about AI just so its picked up by the algorithm cause its a hot topic. All that being said even though the (Social media addiction problem is bad) topic has already been covered a lot I would have probably agreed and liked the video if that was what it was about instead of trying to make it as if AI is the real problem when its not.

@@lostinrez4068 Sugar doesn't cause diabetes. Obesity increases the risk. But, I agree with your take on AI. Another reason why AI content is exhausting--you're absolutely right--is because of overstimulation. Imagine a basketball net hanging from a wall, but it's got a bottom to it. You throw a tennis ball in (roll with me for the sake of example here), it gets a little heavier at the bottom. Throw another in, and another, and another, until suddenly you have too many. What happens? Either the balls spill over, which is the content that leaks out of our attention span, or the net splits at the bottom, and ALL of the balls fall out, which is us getting fed up with the same old. The former will happen first of course, but keep throwing in balls, and the net will eventually fray and split, as it rightfully should, I think. AI content is BORING, moreover. And whether I can tell the difference between human-produced art and I produced art is immaterial: art REQUIRES the human spirit, or it's not art. It's a commodity, like shoelaces or, well, tennis balls. It's like how one pop song will start to sound like every other if you listen to enough of them in a row...albeit that's usually because of the CM, FM, Am, GM progression, but still.
