@@gunmanjack3975 I don't think they're directly comparable, very different games. The Finals feels much more arcadey, like COD with a longer time to kill. Battlefield-like destruction. Lots of cool gadgets/abilities. Pretty unique experience.

it has a tarkov element in the sense you have to extract the objective. you have to defend it for 2 minutes or it gets stolen. @@gunmanjack3975

More than half of what I watch on RU-vid for the past six months have been presidents play pokemon, presidential zomboys, presidential adventures, all fantastic series voiced by elevenlabs. It's fantastic seeing what people can make now with these tools.

@@sunbleachedangel Same. Well, kinda. I'm a writer and I love working with passionate voice actors for audio books. Just right now I got a dream team working on one of mine. On the other hand, there's books I cannot justify the expense to get professionally done. Too niche and for a tiny audience. I dabbled with a tool - the name eludes me - and it's ... actually good enough. I already know that AI voices will become so good, that only high level work will be left for human voices very soon. I feel bad, but on the other hand ... Yeah, I'm a bad person. I know.

same. this whole controversy is mindblowing to me because I had no idea. Was too busy having fun with the gameplay to notice the announcer's voice quality.

Objectively, you are nothing special. Voices, like faces, are not only abundant, but also easily derivable by AI. That is, by having ten good examples you can create dozens of different ones. Unless your voice has an added fame, like the voice of "Morgan Freeman", for example, everything else is irrelevant. Artificial quality and quantity are guaranteed from now on, no matter what you do.

They'll steal your voice when you call your bank one day asking for support, there's no way to stop it unless regulators get involved.

@@nikm5628 there is a difference though. In a movie every interaction between actors will be the same during every screening/viewing. In a game, there is an infinite number of possibilities that a player could go through. In a racing game, having a commentator be able to realistically commentate on the gameplay would be way more immersive than the robotic voices we have now. In F1 games for example when Crofty reads the driver lineup for the race it’s extremely robotic and unnatural. Here’s an example someone made m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-e5BpjzCsYfk.html (It does sound less enthusiastic than a real commentator, but with development and tuning it could sound incredible) In a massive RPG like Baldurs Gate imagine if the NPCs could dynamically respond with more responses. Or there could be even more unique NPC interactions because they would have unique AI voice actors. There will always be a place for real voice actors, AI currently doesn’t have the same emotional and vocal range that a real person has and it can feel disingenuous if a main character in a story game is voiced by AI. But if AI is used correctly such as playing an NPC role, it can be used to expand the content in games without needing a massive budget, or hiring massive amounts of VAs to make each NPC unique. It can be used to create immersive competitive games like commentators in racing games or games like The Finals. Also, for indie devs, they can actually make larger games now with voice acting without needing large amounts of money just to pay for that. They could focus on the gameplay and story elements way more than if they needed the funds for voice actors.

I mean to say, humanity should enable their children to live in a society better than they came in, and that relies on leaving the planet in a better state than what the next generation's descendants were born in. But what I wrote was also rather vague on purpose, because i could spin that into a _hundred_ different variations that are made of the same base.

It will be until it isn't. Hands were a problem for this stuff until it wasn't. The latest presidents play pokemon series have had dramatically better emotion and voicing than the first ones just like eight months ago.

Idgaf, I'll boycott it. Right now the average human being is suffering financially, can hardly find ANY kind of job and we're losing our ability to keep a home and food. This is NOT the way to go, this will just cause MORE poverty and make finding work SO MUCH harder than it already is when people start getting put out of their jobs in favor of a machine that doesn't need to get paid. All this does is make the rich richer and increase the suffering for everybody else. I'm ready to accept a hefty term in some manner of institution to maintain my principles, let me find a local business replacing their workers with machines....

There is no chance of any savings made by using AI voice actors over actual humans being passed on to the consumer.
