Just so people are aware, the H05 bluetooth headband is no longer sold by AIAIAI. It appears that the only bluetooth option is their H10-X01 which is not just bluetooth, but ultra-low latency wireless as well with an included adapter. They also have a different speaker unit option which is bluetooth, the S10 (versus the S02 John shows in the video), but it shows it as having a more balanced, detailed sound signature versus the S02 which has a bit more punchy bass (my preference). I was trying to build a kit exactly as John put together, but noticed I couldn't as a result, not without paying significantly more.

I haven’t used my TMA-2 for wireless calls much at all but I recently picked up a cheap mic cable on Amazon so I could use them for Zoom. I did back the H05 headband on Kickstarter so I’ve been enjoying these for awhile. I have the S04 speaker units but I think I’m going to have to pick up these S05 soon.

Good review! I have the same issue with the microphone echoes. Since there is a tool to update the headband firmware, I will try that and hope it will solve the problem

@@TheAudioJourney So turned out there is no fix for this, which is a huge downpoint for the wireless version... I know that echoes can be prevented programmatically, like all smartphones nowadays does. So hopefully they can develop a firmware that could fix this.

Nice, thorough review. You covered many bases other reviewers missed. I really appreciate that, and all the info provided here. I imagine the phone call issue comes down to microphone placement and possibly the bluetooth firmware. I heard in another review that the headphones "bleed" or leak sound pretty bad. In other words, people nearby can hear what you're listening to pretty clearly. So that + poor mic placement could definitely result in an echo for your phone convo partner.

One good add-on for the TMA2 for gaming or zoom calls is that you add the VMODA boom pro microphone cable for about $30US. It doesn't lock in but it is very secure.

Glad I found this review! I’m still debating between this and DT770 Pro. Love the look and features of the TMA2, especially cause its modular and wireless. But it seems that the 770 has stood the test of time and is way cheaper. Could you pick one if you had to choose or is it down to use-case scenarios? I’d love your opinion. Cheers!

I'd suggest trying both. When it comes to detail and depth, the TMA2's take it for me.

great video! as far as sound quality (mainly for music) is concerned, do you prefer these or the DT 770? also, if you don't mind me asking, which version of the 770 do you have(32 vs 80 vs 250 ohms)?

I was just about to buy the drop thx Pandas, now I am not so sure, but how do u compare as you have so many different driver units 🤯. In principle are these significantly better sound quality, staging, separation, clarity than something like the SonyXM4 which I already have. Can you pair and connect with two devices by the way, I do like this ability on the XM4’s and also a couple of pairs of my buds have this. I’m not sure if I will go for this config or one of the standard padded headbands and use my Fiio btr5’s to give me wireless so be great to get yr input.

I tested these headphones and the issue wirh the echo is only when the other person is in the near. When you test the microphone in the same house make sure that the door is closed to the room in which the other person is standing. The microphone picks up the sound very finely. I have the H05 headband of the TMA-2.

Good point, although I found I had the same issue when calling someone on the other side of town, and in a room on the other side of the house with doors closed.

I've had the exact same echo issue with other wireless headphones (Currently using the ATH-SR30BT). I think it's just an issue with wireless headphones that have mics close to the speaker. Where the mic and phone don't reject/ignore the noise coming from the drivers.

Hi John, Two questions: How do you think these would work as onstage monitors? I’m having a hard time finding info on muff style headphones for this application. I have a hearing aid for my right ear so cannot use in ear phones. And what of latency? Thank you for any input!

I was nearly buying them. But I don’t like to here in my recordings, what I was hearing through headphones. Also if it would be a open design I would not mind this so much. But I don’t understand those headphones cancel sound coming from outside but are not able to block sound from leaking. I hope there will soon be more choices in low latency headphone for studio usage.

PSA: HORRIBLY LOUD HISS AND CLIPPING!!! Most reviews won't talk about as they are paid shills by AIAIAI!!! Everyone and their nana and even doggo is blessing these cans to Valhalla tho the hissing is super fucking loud and can be annoying. Like an built in white noise feature. On max. volume on them the hiss is way too loud! Pushing the Volumedown button 6 times makes it almost inaudible tho then the cans are too quiet. Really gone is the hiss firsif you press the Volumedown button 8 times tho then again are the cans waaaay too quiet!! Using an amp to power the cans is also not great as they start to be clipping really bad relly soon!!! No one was reporting on this. Tho no wonder if AIAIAI gives those cans to ppl to 'test/review' aka do lazy marketing... One Love! Always forward, never ever backward!! ☀️☀️☀️ 💚💛❤️ 🙏🏿🙏🙏🏼

Modular construction is great, genius. However build for this price looks and feels Cheap. Plastic very basic, cheap and gives impression of 30$ product. I love minimal design in general, but these lack in terms of materials quality, finish. Bluetooth headband doesn't have an app? Equaliser to tune sound would be great especially at this price range.
