Aidan O'Brien on City Of Troy - "I treated him with too much respect" 

I'd say it's mainly punters who had him at ante posts odds or who are naive enough to believe the hype Coolmore obviously instruct Aidan to say to big up their horses and backed CoT on Saturday because of it. I prefer to see horses in the paddock that are having their first couple of runs as a 3 year old before putting my money down to make sure they have grown enough, if I don't like what I see I look elsewhere or don't have a bet if there are too many variables/questions marks over the field.

​@@frankelforever14I wouldn't necessarily say they are disgruntled punters, I think that one or two on these channels have created a little hostility towards Coolmore, constantly calling other trainers, jockeys and horses, when a O'Brien horse gets beaten there's always some excuse but when one wins he's suddenly a genius who knows no bounds.

The main protagonist is a deluded troll who has at least 10 accounts set up and has taken recently to having conversations with himself, clearly needs medical help. A lot of those posts are against this clown rather than against O'Brien/Mullins who the vast majority of real racing fans admire as they are legends of the game. With Mullins it's a jealousy thing because of the success he is having, with O'Brien it's the yearly he is the best looking, the best mover etc. etc. comments that irk punters. Proper racing fans take these comments with a pinch of salt while others less educated hang off every word.

@@frankelforever14 True, I have to be a little guarded with some wording on some comments because the moment I put anything remotely critical about the form of a race or the tactics some do have a little emotional crisis, there's plenty I could make a thread on about why i don't totally agree with the explanation of City Of Troy's lacklustre performance, but I know that I would have a few like clueless Lewis trying to get personal, I think the majority who backed him wouldn't really be bothered and just accept these things happen and horse aren't machines, there's no such thing as a certainty as they correctly say.

I backed AR as I understood all those valid excuses. The City of Troy blowout is more of worry. Then also he is not looking a fine equine specimen we expect for the next superstar either. I suppose there is the likes of Chaldean you would not think he was a son of Frankel or even Arrest they aren't spectacular looking. I suppose it's the similar who can live up to their big Dad. Yes I don't understand why Coolmore keep doing it, seems like arrogance to me that their horse won't be beaten. If they are going to use the guineas as a derby trial run another horse in it (e.g. Henry Longfellow) who has a decent chance of winning. When Rock of Gibraltar faced Hawk Wing one of them losing didn't have a negative affect on their career as both went on to show they were high class horses at 3 as well as 2.

Coolmore have had 10 2000 guineas winners and not one has had a prep? It's more common for a guineas winner with no prep race than w one?

Before that yes it was normal to win first time out but when you describe your horse that is odds on to win the race as fresh and needed the run maybe a trial would have been the better choice. I remember Henry Cecil said the main reason he ran Frankel in the Greenham was so he wouldn't be too fresh for the guineas so not sure why Coolmore didn't either run him in a trial or let Henry Longfellow take his chance to improve their chances of success

They run plenty against each other in the Derby I just don't understand why they don't do the same in the guineas when they have a top 2 year old that they must know hadn't improved much over the winter i.e. Air Force, One Cool cat, CoT etc. 🤔

All joking aside, this is a classic race. It makes the horse priceless as a stallion. And if they want an 8/1 shot, they usually use a group horse running in a lower handicap.

Travelled like a 1000m sprinter and not a very good one at that! Unbelievably bad which O'Brien horses can be from time to time. Early yet I suppose but Justify horses seem to be shooting stars at the moment.

He's a race horse, they scope them and blood check them very regularly and definitely before races, he definitely would have been checked out after that performance.

He blew out he was foaming at the mouth getting home, mouth wide open.. wasn't using his nose to exhale like you want them to.. these are heavyweight championship fights and if you horse is not in prime condition it will be knocked out by the conditioned horses.. he looked dehydrated somewhat and not fit enough, if your giving horses a 6 month break between races you need to be schooling them enough coming up to the race to peak condition them. Also i find if you training a horse upwards 7f, mile, 9f, you want to be schooling them over 10f to make them work. You know what the saying is don't you? Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.

​@@FuneemanIt wasn't just training it was to actually finding the perfect horse. That was a gift Vincent had. I think he has had more than anyone ever at the top in Ireland anyways. Vincent would save either Coolmore or Godolphin 10mil each year at the sales. That was his gift. I think Aiden is more like a horse whisperer he can deal with horses with bad attitudes. Sometimes the race choices is a questionable one. It might be he is too nice to the owners either.

Horses are not machines been following Aidan for years and I've never seen him as baffled as he was with C.O.T. These American breds do not seem to like Newmarket I won't write this horse off till his next run but he was changing legs and took off too fast. The media builds these horses up and sore gamblers come and criticise Obrien. As Aidan says No one died a horse lost a race

@@robertdelacy3434 I have seen plenty of horses playing up in the stalls and a few stumble and some nearly get brought down who go on the either win or run a very good race, he said a similar thing when Diego Velazquez got beat in the Futurity.

He could be like August Rodin and only runs when he wants to run. Auguste Rodin was brilliant in some races last year, especially in The Breeders Cup, but earlier this year, in a big Middle East race (without a prep race), he decided to drop anchor half a mile from home.

Now you tell me Joseph how many horses got ..not beaten...thrashed and beaten miles from home in the 1000 guineas then come out to win derbys? We are not talking about selling horses or handicappers and we are certainly not talking about a new training who's wet behind the ears. For O'Brien to say that he was way to easy on it at home and left it short of work but it ran that bad...beaten so far from home...then I'm sorry only 3 things spring to mind 1, Had no training and hugely overweight 2, Was got at 3, Has not trained on. 4, Medical 1, 3, 4 O'Brian will know about...

@@279rebecca Hi, i understand where you are coming from,the horse flopped i have being involved in the game also and all i can say is sometimes there are no answers and aidan doesnt always get it right.horses as you know have bad days and you can draw a line through runs,granted it was shocking how bad he ran,they are not machines and there was huge hype.you might recall all the super 2 y o,lds that didnt train on.arazi,storm bird,johannasburg,airforce blue. there just might be no answers and i dont think one can question aidan,he is a man of the upmost integrity.its never black or white in racing and as you know its not an exact science. much of the noise is coming from people who dont really understand racing and when you step back,one can realise its animals your dealing with and even the great aidan o brien hasnt all the answers.
