Glad to see some appreciation for my Purdue alum! Happy to see him playing well at the moment, hopefully he keeps developing and remains a starter next year
As a raider fan, I’m excited for the kid. He can make all the throws, with a scheme built around him and a full offseason, who knows how good he could be.
You are right…. He’s still got a lot to learn…..That doesn’t mean he’s the answer long term? He’s immobile and he’s struggling throwing the deep ball? If the right guy is there in the first round I’m thinking you take a qb.
@@gswguy4554I don’t think he struggles throwing the deep ball, plenty of deep dimes on the small sample size we have. He’s still developing timing with the 1s
Thank you for lending your knowledge on the QB position. And NO biased opinion, just QB knowledge. I myself believe Aidan has the potential to be a starting QB in the NFL as well. We seeing young QBs get flustered with defensive schemes and don't play up to expectations, therefore busting out of the NFL. Aidan has 5 more games to put more on tape. You mentioned he made 2 perfect throws here. How many perfect throws are QBs making in one game? I'd be happy with the Qb making the right throw and giving your wr a chance to make a play. Sometimes fans want too much too fast. Let the rookie grow. Build around him and let him get more reps for him to develop. This is a passing league and Aidan is a thrower..
So many Raider fans are flip flops. This young man has talent, and only played a handful of games this season. The fact so many Raider fans are ready to bench him is insane.
I wanted them to give Aiden his shot. They did. He’s shown he’s not it. Just staring down his receiver every play. Hey, look where I’m throwing it, everybody. Get your interception.
That's cause people these days want instant gratification. Even the great quarterbacks 99% took a season to really start showing and this year, Stroud being an outlier, AOC is the best looking rookie QB besides Stroud. And if McDaniels actually fixed the offensive line and wasn't a shit head of a human being he would probably look even better. He is 2-3 as a starter. The game against chargers he played against the charges and his coach not doing him any favors. last 2 were against the dolphins and chiefs which AOC did his part. And now your playing with a crap o-line who cannot run or pass black and your working with a OC, that was the QB coach, so I think he is doing the best he can considering. What AOC does have is a strong enough arm, he is stupid accurate, poised, seems to have the huddle and the team behind him. Raiders never do the smart thing so maybe they will this go around. The smart thing is, and considering the raiders will pick in the middle more than likley is to retain AP as head coach, go and find either a new OC or someone that can support Hardigree. Draft or sign offensive line and defensive help. Do not worry about a quarterback this year. If you blow your load and trade up for a rookie qb in the draft it will be the same problems you currently have. If Adams wants to go then trade him for a first and second and stick with the plan of oline and defense, you could also get a new WR that can pair well and grow with AOC. And you have to resign AP, if you dont I am sure Grahm will walk as DC and the progress you do have on defense will be gone. Atleast another year and if it doesnt work then full rebuild mode. And the raiders still have about 2 years before all the bad contracts from the McDaniels regime is off the books so there is no hurry really.
Auxfiles, you couldn't be more right. The kid is a rookie. Only Stroud is looking better as a rookie Qb than Aidan....and Stroud was the #2 pick overall and has gotten all of the first team reps all season. I have no idea if Aidan will be the future starter, but as a former college OC and Qb coach, this kid has so many traits that any play caller would love to have.
Give Aiden a better o line and he’s gonna light it up! I like how he doesn’t blink and his short term memory. Only thing holding him back is coaches with conservative play calling, gotta let him rip it, we ain’t got nothing to lose
No the line is not fine … if you can’t run the ball nothing else works . They just ok pass blocking and terrible run blocking . We need some wiz , Kennedy, Hudson , Jackson , some dam men who blow the em off the line where the back at least gets a yard before being touched … jj hit in the backfield more times than he isn’t .. probably hit 2to1 in the backfield..
I swear I've learned more about playing QB from watching this channel than I did playing in High School. It's fascinating and informative. Thank you! I'm liking what I'm seeing from Aiden O'Connell as well. I'd love to see him get a chance to grow into the starter and the Raiders use the high draft picks on upgrades to the O-line and Defense. Passing on the shoe drawing. Someone else will appreciate them more than I would.
Growing pains are pretty normal especially with an oline like ours give the dude a chance he has a pretty good deep ball and isnt afraid to get hit let this kid ball and be patient
@hushtonebob The score of the game didn’t really reflect the play on the field. It is a little concerning that the Chiefs went unanswered though but I don’t know how of that is on the offensive coordinator’s lack of adjustment in the second half.
Great job, as usual. @ChiltonEngineer, but I wear 13s, so you can count me out of those. I have three things that I saw. First was his feet and weight transfer. He has a very upright stance. His base appears wide, but he still has a bit of happy feet. Two, the 5-sided pressure, his pivot to set himself and throw with the pressure in his face was a jump pivot; he hopped from a downfield stance to a more lateral stance to get the short arm throw off, which opened up his body to a straight-on pressure. I would rather see him pull his trailing leg back and swing his leg more behind himself than a sudden bounce into position. I am less sure that he can get his arm and hip behind the throw when after landing than if his feet never leave the ground, although, with the pressure, the jump pivot may be just that much faster than a movement of the trailing leg. Finally, I ask, what does he need to work on. Where do you see issues? Is it pre-snap reads, or is it post-snap? His arm is strong; no worries there. I love the hip turn and the engagement of the lower body, unlike Dan Marino, who just played darts. He appears to have good ball security. Where does he go now? As you pointed out, 11 and 16 were bunched. Should Aidan have fixed that? Was that something under his control? Is that something that a second or third-year player needs to be able to see? Mahomes often is moving people about. At this moment, he is trying to figure out what HE is doing, let alone everyone else, I would guess. Again, great job, and keep them coming.
Thank you for the breakdown. I do see from the film breakdown that sometimes Aidan may focus too much on one receiver and doesn't see a more open receiver downfield. Probably just lack of experience. I do wish he would move around with his legs a little more to either move within the box do buy some more time and/or run for some yards to keep the chains moving forward.
As a Raider fan, I really enjoy watching your videos Chase. The way you describe and give credit to each play/player makes it entertaining. Also I remember watching you at Mizzou and as a Longhorn fan I can admit you gave us hell lol I think you beat us that year!! Very accurate QB and a good career college and NFL!
Hey Chase, I don't know if you read or respond to our post, but I wanted to ask you what you think of all the quick to judgment of this young QB by the fan base? I see growth in this young man every time he plays. I also believe this bye week will be incredible for him and the OC to really dig into creating even more offense that will help him grow even more. The Raiders should draft a QB next year, but not because I don't believe in AOC but because I think that was the mistake made by them in the past with our old QB. Competition can only push you to either get better or fold under it.
Would just like to point out Tom Brady had 0 TDs in his first 4 games and only 12 TD's his first 10 to 7 INTs. Not saying he's Brady but really just an example of needing time to grow. Brady had all of his INTs and TDs after 4 games. He also was maxed out at 168 yards those first 4 games and didn't cross 100 yards in more than 1 game and only crossed 85 yards 2 times out of first 4 games
Wasn't Renfrow up for grabs at some point? Is shocking that now other teams attempted signing him. He is going to be a big key to our success in the up coming years
North texas made!!! I remember playing for mckinney and all the coaches use to speak real highly of you and the highland park or was it southlake Carrol..😂😂 ✊🏾☮"
DammmmiT Chase Fricken SiiiicK Break DowN on Aidan's game and this really shows his week to week progression. I noticed he did DamN great on 3rd Down not sure why we didn't just Pass on those 4th & 1s instead of running. May have changed outcome. Thanks for awesome break down.
I think he is doing pretty good. I don't care for the plays. They don't seem to fully use the most potential of the wr/te/rb. I think they are stuck using JmD schemes since that is what they trained for in the off season. Very hard to switch middle of the season.
We have to win out, for a chance at getting in the post season, our chances at doing that, are the same, whomever at QB, which is bleek, so I say, let the kid learn from the experience Aoc gets, from finishing out the season, knowledge is power
Build his offensive line around him and we will be better with AOC oh and get him an offensive coordinator. Plus build the defensive line at DT. The LBERS AND SECONDARY WILL BENEFIT
It's his first year, we need to develop a good QB like him instead of trading him or benching him now, he will be better next, his timing is a lil off but he can throw the long ball
I think he deserves a fair chance.,we must remember that the Raiders are still playing Josh MC nuggets.playbook..so lets give him a chance to start a season under a playbook design for him 🤔
That third and three completion to # 16 was good in the face of pressure but # 11 was running wide open for a TD over the top with the safety spying #17. Just nip picking tbh lol
I think aoc under the right coach and oc he can be great the raiders just have to build up the oline and and add a couple more pieces to the defense and this team can be great just need a few more pieces
The one thing that scares me is his footwork and. NFL is so fast that ,it could put him in a box scheme wise especially from a stand point of where the QB position is heading, RPO's, moving the Pocket, etc etc from a footwork standpoint, Can he be Elite with his arm enought to nullify the deficiencies he has with his feet???
O'Connell was never truly developed because he wasn't the main option for the offense in the beginning. He's learning on the job. Shaky at times but what rookie isn't?
I love AOC, he has a deep ball like Carr but doesn’t flinch in the pocket. Full offseason of studying coverages and how WRs like the ball thrown, we should see a pro bowl caliber sophomore season. If we keep the same coach and OC. If not then his progress probably be shot again like we always do to our QBs. Mark needs to make this shit official already. Give the team a few years in the same system….. Maybe a 2-3 year contract and the GM a 5year. Just stop giving out 10 year contracts please🏴☠️
Yeah, but to be fair, the playback is extremely limited right now according to the offensive r coaches ,he's learning on the fly and I think they are only using maybe 40-50% of the playbook, that will change though
#Rokansteady Aiden is an over average rookie right now. He just needs repa to process how fast the game is. Hes been dropping dimes but there are times he 2nd guesses himself.
Its been hilarious to read comments on people that are ready to give up on this kid after a season full or turmoil and a handful of starts . All i see are accuracy and anticipation two things very difficult to teach at this point of development, if he was drafted in the first round most of dingbats would have more patience but being a fourth rounder, well dump him and burn a first on someone else, even if he doesnt have the tools this kid has. Smh no sense in some of the nation sometimes , i mean , i still love em but they can be knuckleheads RN4L
i think ive seen him make some throws, all he needs is experience and better pre snap reads, he doesnt hesitate when hes on. i like him and his qbr proved this. he is our future qb!
Chase? ….. It’s obvious you think highly of AOC! He’s a good value for a 4th round pick pick….. The Raiders didn’t generate much offense in the 2nd half? What did the get? 3 points? What do you think is the disconnect on offense? Is it the play calling, the offensive line making mistakes? Or is it a lack of talent? Was more about the Chiefs and less about the Raiders? The defense got carved up again by mahomes and kelce…… if you’re the GM…. Do you ride with this kid and draft a position of need or do you go get a top QB in the first round? Aiden isn’t the most mobile quarterback…. At some point….you have to be able to make a play with your feet?
You got to be kidding me the guy can’t run for the life of him or won’t cause he scared. God knows what the reason why regarding decisions, you mean like when he’s on his back and he throws an interception directly to the other team, I could go on and on
@acreek2020 He’s still a rookie. With an improved OL he will thrive. Like the accuracy and the smarts. Not sure about his mobility but that may not matter.
Fans complaining that he can't run. Well, how many good pocket QBs have there been over the years? A lot. Big Ben and Brady to name a few. Let's see how he does after a training camp and starting from game one.
@Nijji897Lafayette Goff runs when he has to. Stafford runs when he needs. Tua also runs when he needs to. Kirk as well. All these qbs have good pocket presence. Tom Brady would never be able to play at a high level in todays league. Every quarterback needs some type of mobility. O’Connell does not run at all. His pocket presence is terrible. Hes not a quarterback to build on.
And also none of those quarterbacks that u named are real contenders. You build your team around a quarterback who can get you to a superbowl. None of those teams would be able to win one in todays game. The qb position is growing into a dual threat type of style. Like a CJ stroud.
