Very interesting. I actually visited many years ago the Pakistani border village of Icchogil, near Lahore. At one time, my uncle used to be in the Punjab Irrigation Department (Pakistani Punjab, around 1970s and 1980s) and I used to love travel with him along the canals and stay in old canal rest houses; and we once traveled along the BRB canal from near Kala Khitai, down to the Ravi river /siphon and then along the border to Khem Karan post /chowki, back then the Pakistan Rangers and an army unit posted there, hosted us to a lavish lunch , ranging from typical Punjabi staples like saryan da saag te makkai di roti, to 'Tittar masala"(curried partridges ) . I'm sorry to digress , but I guess that on the Indian side they've always called the BRB canal as the 'Ichogil canal', was it due to some strategic location of this village (or villages ; there are an Utla and Tarla Ichogil) ?
In the 1960 -1972 i used to see three canals emerging from headworks at Hussaniwala near Ferozepur. Two on the west bank that were going to pakistan and one on east bank that was going to Rajasthan in the Indian side. The canal remained existing till 1971 war and when during the war the area was captured by Pakistan these were completely demolished by Pakistan army and all material was taken by the Pakistan army. Even the remaining material of the Ferozepur kasur line was totally demolished and looted. When after the ceasefire we visited Hussainiwala headworks the whole area was a total plane and even the green trees , rail lines , bricks all were missing and taken away by Pakistanies and no one could say two canals and a rail line existed some days ago.
salam sir. anxiously waiting for this program as you often narrate the past of canals. I read once a book titled " Badar se Bata Pur tak" by Anayat Ullah a typical super patriot of Two nation theory and garrulous anti india. I am expecting some food for thought after viewing your program.
Sir ek hi dil hai kitni dafa jeeto gy 😊. I live in a very close proximity to the Bombanwala head. My Nana used to tell us stories of expansion of this Link canal. He worked as labour in the construction too.
