Mandanis, the great sage of Taxila, who had the courage to spurn the invitation of Alexander lived on in the hearts and minds of the people of Taxila long after his death.
I know one fellow, an equivalent of Mandanis. The only person I ever know or read who refused to meet a sitting prime minister. This man refused to meet Pakistan's present Prime Minister Imran Khan when his officer asked him to join at an inauguration. His name is Salman Rashid.
The Taxila University is heritage of West Punjab. (I won’t call it Pakistan) Pakistani people somehow are never taught about it, Modern Grammar of Sanskrit language was written in Taxila by Panini. Panini was from Attock. I only see Salman Rashid proud about it. He should write how Buddhist Ashok used to threaten people in Punjab. It will break a stereotype of Ashok being peaceful post Buddhism.
Very interesting tale sir. Thanks a lot. I was once a student of taxila university too..in 2004AD though ( don't be spooked ). Would wander in the ruins scattered around the main campus and try to find some time portal to by gone times . Your story just served as one ! Thanks.
Very nicely presented kept interest all the way. We all have heard stories of Battle of Hydespas of Raja Porus and Alexander but never heard of this part of Alexander summoning these philosophers .. definitely learned something new from this . Well Done Waddyo
Beautiful story, narrated equally beautifully too. 🙏 Sir, is Taxila too hellenic or punjabi distortion of Taksha-shila, how we, in India, call this place as?
Kanishka was actually a Kushan from Central Asia. Originally a Zoroastrian, he converted to Buddhism in what is now Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. He was indeed a great king and builder.
Kanishka is from Present Chinese area around Kashgar. Although he made first Peshawar his capital and later on Mathura. He was most probably a Buddhist. There is the theory that the first converts to Islam in modern Pakistan were Buddhist like their Mongol brethren.
@@hanifullah8655 that’s correct, many say even he died in Peshawar. Their is theory that the Kushans in modern day are Gujjars and not Pashtun. The last Kushan emperor had name of Vasudeva (lord Krishna s father was Vasudeva who had kingdom in Mathura as per Mahabharata) . They were defeated by attacks of Samudragupta from Central India (Ujjain) & Iranians in east. Modern Pakistani people should learn from this and not take Panga with Iran and India together just because they rule Afghanistan. Incidentally Taxila was also capital of Kushans for some time,
@@AjitJoshi686 Buddhism was widespread in what is now Pakistan. My ancestors would certainly have converted from Buddhism to Santana Dharma before eventually converting to Islam.
