The Aikenback Live Steamers are running miniature live steam powered trains. The trains range in size from 1/32 to 1/20 scale. These live steam locomotives use butane, alcohol or coal to fuel the fire. Watch as the members work hard to put on a show with their live steam powered trains during the East Coast Large Scale Train Show in Annapolis Maryland.

Shawn that was absolutely fascinating! I'll tell you, those model live steamers aren' all that much different from their full-size counterparts, all the same principles apply. And I've been told they're a LOT stronger than they look! Thanks for the show!

Shawn, thanks for the video! But I would not refer to these as "miniature". These are scale models ... just like the "sparkies" that were running and for sale inside 🙂

Pretty cool, I've seen these at some of the train shows in the NJ,PA,Del area, but they really with the tech we have available today, they need to add a RC receiver and a couple servos to control them remotely. I'm just not a fan of the "free flight" style. What happens if a box car derails and you need to stop? You have to go chasing after the engine, and you have no way of slowing down going into a turn. But the biggest issue would be, no whistle (unless your running along side the thing) Just leaves much more to be desired. Very cool though.

Or you could have the visceral experience of actually driving a locomotive. If you want RC, that's fine...but it really becomes indistinguishable from a battery loco at that point.
