I am so amazed by Aikido. It's like it's the single and only martial art that is not about striking, but about forces control. I am an aerospace engineer and I am used to calculate the collision of forces and when I see how easy and how perfectly the aikido masters react and control the forces used against them I literally have my passion of physics triggered even stronger. Aikido I will practice soon.

Judo and Brazilian jiu jitsu are other examples of non striking arts.

Agree that Aikido is amazing, and that Judo and BJJ are considered non striking arts. However I would urge caution and open-mindedness here. 'Striking' arts are not really about striking. If you train Kung Fu, Karate, etc in good schools then you realise that the strikes and kicks are not really meant for people, but rather for one's own ego. All traditional martial arts I have come across, whether striking is involved or not, are designed to teach so much more than combat skills: concentration, humility, respect, a greater understanding of oneself and the universe. All this to say please don't discard other martial arts simply because a given discipline involves striking. After all, being in a submission hold in BJJ or getting flung across the room in Judo onto a fairly firm mat can impact the body in a similar way as being punched or kicked...
@rawmark
@rawmark 7 лет назад
Michael Roberts All BJJ is relly is Judo with a different raincoat. It was a Judo master who instructed the original Gracie in the fine art of Judo. One of his sons was sickly and couldn't stand for long periods. He is the one who modified many of the moves while toying around with it and BJJ was born. However, remember, Aikido was born from traditional jiu jitsu and judo. And the original styles are a bit more aggressive thank the newer, flowy styles. Alas, I think if Aikdo is to survive, it must evolve and I see more people intregrating other styles to create their own Aikido.

+Mark Gailmor As for moment Aikido has no problem of survival. The context is not a mere compative any more but rather in the sense of a do similar to taichi. Still you can find a lot of combative essences, but the understandind is not self-defense in the first meaning.

Aikido is not my kind of martial arts but after following classes for four weeks(for school) I've grown to appreciate it. It's really a lot more difficult than martial arts that mainly involve striking.

So amazing how he sees the movements of his opponent and instantly understands the direction and strenght of the X and Y forces applied and literally uses the less movement possible to simply take control and direct the forces where he wants them to go. The best example I could find is at 6:45. Not only he amplifies the strenght towards him but he simply dodges it an then create a solid point of rotation for the force to be deflected. That is like air reacting to air, as swift and easy as the wind.

It’s not that he sees the movement but he blends with the movement

Its hard to believe what I'm seeing. This is the most fascinating martial art in my opinion. I'm guessing Aikido would take longer to learn and master than any other martial art.

I agree both are simply so usual when you train with high level. Once training in hombu dojo with Yasuno senshei, in front of all student, he take apart a guy from sweden asking him to cut his dread lock or to not come again...Here you see what he means thru tissier shihan technique.. grabbing hairs.. for the 11:37, same experience with the wife of Shihan Tamura 2 years ago.. was training with her and she "kick my ass" few times just become in the exitment I always forgot to keep the distance.

Super vjestina jer kako neki govore ne mogu dizati noge do glave niti se hrvati sa 100 kilasima niti svi imaju duge ruke za boksanje (neki imaju i kratke ruke),a Aikido poluge na rukama su ok vjestina za obraniti se
