I saw this video about 9 months ago when I was starting practicing Aikido and back then it seemed so impossible :) Today I did this fall for the first time in my life. I still need to improve of course, my fall was far from perfection, but still I'm so happy I actually did it :):):) And all your clues were very helpful, especially about the hand :) Thanks for this video, it really helped :)

Is your balance broken (kuzushi) when you breakfall like this?

Your fall show you have abitlities beyond this art wich your channels name is perfect for. Much love to you and your journey. Congratulations you have become a BEAST(in the positive sense) In Judo we always smashed the arm when falling BUT! that was maybe because we went a 100% or maybe we just sucked🤣🤣 Greetings from Norway

this video is very useful for beginners, when I started I used to be afraid of falling this way during a technique or randori, then the fear faded when I understood I wouldn't hurt myself

Would you perform the techniques/arts towards the camera and at 45 degrees to provide different perspectives of how your body moves? (are your legs staying close together, do your legs go over your head or over your hips while your head and shoulders have moved t ok one side, how much is your body turned/on its side when contacting the mat)

Thank you for your excellent explanation. If I could see it in slow motion it would be so much easier to understand. As a beginner it is hard to know where to look -- the hand, the posture, the legs -- and when you do the fall it all seems to happen too quickly for the eye. Thank you!

What happens when uke's balance is broken and nage holds on?
@lqiyun7

Heya, are there any (easier) progressive exercises one can do to lead up to this? This is especially so if the person is slightly afraid or overambitious (of which both states as mentioned in the video and as personally experienced will cause extra tension and is not good for high falling). Thanks!

hai sensei, im really curious about your uchi deshi program. usually what type of people join the program? i imagine that mostly would be students funded by their parents. but is there adults too? i guess business person might have the time to spend a few months maybe? and how many hours you train a day?
@MartialArtsJourney
@MartialArtsJourney 7 лет назад
Hello Afiq, Actually a lot of different people come. Adults tend to take holidays and come here for a week or two. We train different amount of hours based on a day. On Wednesday it's about 5-6 hours, plus chance to train more with other members.

I believe Yoko Ukemi is different. You can check this video for an example: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pPYT1QZCH4w.html

I think he was referring to Yoko Kaiten, which Donovan Waite has popularized here in the states...

Here in Brazil, some Dojos call "yoko ukemi" (a Yoko different from Judo) Takemussu institute, for example. No Brasil, alguns dojos chamam de yoko ukemi sim, (um Yoko diferente do Judo). O instituto takemussu é um exemplo. Sou praticante do Takemussu e também acho estranho chamarem de Yoko! Mas, é assim. hehe

This is probably the stupidest question anyone has ever asked: But in simplest terms, why are Aikido students taught to slap the mat with their hands when they fall?

@vannigiulio440

Aikido is NOT about falling and the fact that lately so many people are focusing on ukemi is the proof of the shift of the art from a Budo into a sort of gymnastic.
@TheLincolnrailsplitt
@TheLincolnrailsplitt 4 года назад
You must be kidding? That is almost strangest comment I have heard about Aikido. Haven't you heard of kuzushi? What exactly should uke do when his/her balance is broken and they are thrown while mage holds on?
