Hi! My name is Rokas. I've been doing Aikido for more than 15 years, taught it and ran my professional dojo. Eventually I became disillusioned with Aikido and moved on to train combat sports such as BJJ, MMA and kickboxing. Now I am coming back to see one more time if Aikido can be made functional with the new knowledge I have from combat sports. I also question various martial arts and promote critical thinking in martial arts.
Check out the video which started my martial arts journey - Aikido vs MMA - here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0KUXTC8g_pk.html

I dont care if it works in mma, it totally helps deal with the avg bully/ass who thinks being loud and obnoxious is scary. Of course, the main argument is its useless against a skilled fighter who knows what they are doing. Most altercations in life do not involve skilled fighters and fights are won by people, not fighting styles.
INDEED! JUST LIKE PUSHING HANDS IN TAI CHI IS "A TOOL". I SPARRED USING IT EXCLUSIVELY AND GOT PRETTY GOOD BUT MOST PLAYERS, EVEN IF GOOD A P.H. CAN'T USE IT PRACTICALLY...NOT ALL...MOST.
Yes its good to know how to handle a ground situation but its better to not ever let it go to the ground in the first place and from this list Id say Muay Thai is the best self defense art because they use so many devastating strikes that can prevent a fight from ever going to the ground and can end the fight fast.
I turned it off at "Muay Thai is the same as kick boxing". Realized I just wasted my time. These guys truly don't know what their talking about. Wrestling higher than Muay Thai?! Lol... Insanity. And no San Soo which is probably the best street fighting art?
Take a look at Omote Gyaku Dori, the Kotegaeshi - Ninjutsu variant. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wJ4oGF2SZpE.htmlsi=8c_WbUQkQ32suUBl
You literally started the entire hate thing with your "aikido doesn't work" bs and now you're like: "why is so hated". You weren't very good at it in the first place, you lacked testosterone, grit etc. so you blamed everything on the art. Aikido is actually a perfect art, but it's more of an upgrade, so it requires a lifetime of other contact fighting martial arts like judo, boxing (doesn't matter). I'm just disgusted at this point.
You're absolutely wrong about BJJ for street fighting. It is C- or C at best, for one reason. If you're the greatest BJJ fighter in the world and you have your opponent tied up on the ground, you are also tied up on the ground. What if your opponent has a buddy? You're F*cked. At least with the other disciplines, you have a chance against multiple opponents because you are not automatically going to the ground.
I knew one judoka ,who was bouncer bodyguard street fighter ect,one of those mfckers you dont mess around,i still recall ,he said he need to go to throw around some aikidokas with smile, then after minute he said well aikido got few nasty things...in short he knew teaching was bullshido..but cwrtain tehnics,if you just learn those you van end a lot fights .i guess from his answer ,that is reason why aikido is still around..but another guy was training kendo and aikido..dude was fast strong and his arm was like ordinary men leg and wire and concrete..so another of tjose dudes you just dont mess with...but there was one dude farmer and other works,,he would crack open rams skull ...so i guess work work work..increase overall chances,,btw he literaly lift 130kg dude with one hand snd choke him in mid air in few seconds...so i still think there ate certain dudes you just dont mess with them😂
youre not wrong. wing chun politics are effing crazy. Usually teacher stop advacning people at a certain point, the students get fed up and leave to learn. then get branded as traitors. its very petty
Tai Chi and Ninjutsu on the last position shows that this guy knows nothing about these martial arts And as a brazilian I can also say that Capoeira on B is completely nonsense, it should definitely be on D
People saying judo neglect ground game should actually learn it's history. Kosen judo is essentially all about ground game, and Maeda who thought Gracie brothers was kosen judo practitioner. Also fameous fight between Kimura and Gracie was show of judo vs bjj and Kimura is not bjj technique but kosen judo one. Yes both Kimura and Gracie trained different grappling styles before but Kimura base was judo. So yes judo can be very effective in ground game, but unfortunately today judo is all about sport competitions and Olympics. Original judo also thought strikes and kicks (udemi-waza) which are no longer present in sport judo.
Thanks , may Martial Arts Journey enjoy many party invitations after funding this . Ramsay Dewey is the name, I was trying to remember as he was discussing he RU-vid Royalties ! (20p !!) Or 30 Cents !
Aikido... Unicorn of martial arts... People adore scams... Just that way it is... Pity... Btw Why aikido masters or just students never ever had the balls to stand up and fight in the ring... You need no to be an expert to point the narcissist behawior (sorry Lynda) but today the common sense is a rare thing
I'm sorry but I feel that you're wrong, judo grips can be used against fleash and fabric. How long can a boot scoot boogie work? Also how strong are your fingers?
ITF is the real TKD that came from before there was a separation of north and south I think. I was learning ITF chung do Kwan, but there was also a wtf version. It depends how old your instructor is and if they are from Korea
I did TKD for near on 15yrs and I agree, it doesn't prepare you for self defence. I say this coming from a traditional Kwon taught by a grandmaster from Korea (not a mcdojo or sports place). The way I made it effective was to go do Japanese jui jitsu for 4 yrs, otherwise it's useless because it doesn't get pressure tested
Ok everything in perspective instances tho, in a real instance of a street fight and the akido guy has a staff he could maybe take on a few guys with aiki jō
When I first start to learn about the chinese art of fighting, Kempo, I had to make a vow to never take advantage of the Chinese art of fighting, not even in the most difficult situations. i was 14 years old.. later when i"d become a Sandan (was to broken to be a Yondan unfortunatly} I had astablissed my own in every street or corner fight which what's never been opproved of. However, it worked well in the streets (and no: I am not proud of it!} But it did help me to survive! Yes!, nowadays people are much more brutal with all this mma lecture. In the ring I would lose, but I'm sure that whenever the same person comes in an actual fight will lose and get knocked out.. what I'm saying is that don't ever underestemate real master artist
I'm by no means an expert but I have trained a few different martial arts. I completely agree. Judo and boxing are an amazing combination. Bjj is great for competitive sports but judo is better for street fights where you want to avoid going to the ground but still need to have some idea what to do if you end up there
I mean most martial arts will be an S against untrained street fighters, but boxing is definitely the most efficient in a street fight scenario. That is with the motive to simply dismantle an inexperienced aggressor quickly. You barely need to use any energy, and a solid cross will absolutely stun an untrained fighter. Their adrenaline will turn into shock, and 9 times out of 10 they are going to back down.
Boxing, however, does get messy against a trained fighter. In that case, you’re increasing the risk of receiving a broken nose or fractured orbital lobe.
BJJ is the best and most efficient martial art ever created. Not being in the top of S tier is ridiculous. And now its understandable why this guy is not a true champ Tks
