The reason we train Aikido with a hand grab is, yes, to some extent due to the idea of a swordsman having his wrist grabbed etc but it's also more than that. It's easy to move someone who grabs our wrist and put's lots of weight into us because we move our centre or dantien, via irimi, into the centre of uke and then tenkan to change direction of apply force. The idea of pushing via the elbow rather than direct at the point of contact works in this way. It never surprises me that people who have never training in Aikido, never trained for years consistently Aikido, make comments that Aikido is rubbish. Aikido is not original - it can be seen in Ju Jitsu, Karate, Krav Maga, but the difference is the way the Akidoka moves.

Now that was cool to watch. I love the way you turned Ikkyo into Shihonage. And the Ikkyo Ni was beautiful. Also, thanks for leaving in the one fail to Sankajo. It shows we are all human.

5 star for 1:53 :-) Really amazing demonstration that uke's energy can be (and should be) used against him. True spirit of Aikido.

This is really just Kotei training; learning the mechanics of overcoming strength.

@joemanses The same things stoping a boxer from using his right uppercut when he is practising his left direct. It is training dude, where you practice a specific technique, not a death match. If you don't like Aikido do not watch Aikido videos. Simple, isn't it?

@KurtCobain198666, you are certainly right. Here, I just show one aspect of resistance, although not an unimportant one. Other forms of resistance are mainly solved with speed.

@heathirving, so you refer to the old kumiuchi. Ok, that I have heard about, but never tried.

@heathirving, I don't know what it is, so probably I haven't. Is it something from Saito sensei's system, or from Chiba sensei, or someone else?

@KurtCobain198666 I don't agree that Aikido works against resistance, I would say that it works with the resistance.

@solpapisolmook SPOT ON. Life training is the reason why any good judo/bjj grappler will always obliterate any aikidoka

It's hilarious how Aikido makes your brain forget ideas as simple as "resistence". Actual resistence would mean moving around, pushing and pulling at unpredictable angles, and even--god forbid--letting go of the wrist and trying something else. You know, like a fight. Aikido resistence is just "grab my wrist harder than usual this time."
@MrMattias87
@MrMattias87 9 лет назад
If they didn't resist then you wouldn't improve your own Aikido.
@TheLeahacer
@TheLeahacer 8 лет назад
+LAVATORR you mean a bad aikidoka forgets everything. aikido is about movement and deflection. Wrist grabbing is for the new aikidokas that need to learn foundation. Scrub business aikido starts demonstrations with "grab my wrist." once you past even the 5th kyu .. there is no "grab my wrists" that is when the uke starts trying to sit on you.
@LAVATORR
@LAVATORR 8 лет назад
TheLeahacer "Bad Aikidoka" is a tautology.

Haha what resistance??? The Uke was very cooperative. Which is why aikido sucks against people who actually resist. Aikido is amazing against the elderly people

boring... the opponents sou could not have seem to uninterested in actually resisting the resisting that it is just plain boring... you could not have added in just 1 example of this actually being used in action?
