Aikido the way of the rogue warrior episode #2 highlights the more practical version of the Traditional aikido technique kaiten nage, which we did a video on our other series aikido the wat it doesn't work episode #5. Lenny sly sensei of the #roguewarriors training compound goes over the realistic and practical application of aikido's kaiten nage using the TenShin aikido concepts and methodology. Sly sensei shows some different footwork as well as a better way to control your uke during this technique and much more.

Good application of Soto kaiten with an atemi! I like the wrist grab for soto though, it’s normally done as a continuous cut to kaiten. But I like the control point on the wrist! My applied version is to move right into the attacker with an elbow to the face, tenchi entry with the grabbed hand, then just take kaiten from the elbow strike. Great technique! Completely agree on simplifying movement in Aikido. The more long winded a movement, the less likely it will work in real time. KISS = Keep It Simple Stupid, my take on my aikido anyways.

Hi Lenny! I just wanna say, I love the videos, love your attitude and love and appreciate Aikido for what it is. I am a Hap Ki Do Blk Belt and I hear a lot of the same bullshit about what doesn’t work and what they could do to counter and I basically say the samething that you say and attempt to explain that if the technique doesn’t hurt, you ain’t doin right. I hate half steppin during training. I’m just a baby in this art, but what I’ve come to realize and try to explain to the doubters, is that they(the uke) can put 100 plus % effort into countering once they know what’s coming, but if I put 50/60% effort, something is gonna break. Unfortunately for some I’ve had to show’em. Fortunately for them nothing broke. Ain’t nothin like a little pain compliance to drive the point home. My moms used to always say, “those that can’t hear feel”. Anyway... Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Keep doin you. Kamsa Hamnae Da(Thank You) Ooous!

For those who are interested, look up the physical problems which come with the fight or flight response. When adrenaline starts flowing fine motor skills and fine movements stop being possible. In essence, the more scared you are the more your fine skills and finer movements will deteriorate. Also the primitive part of the brain which takes more control durning that time can't process 50 steps to get to a conclusion. If memory serves me you've got less then 5 ( I think it's 3) things you can manage to process at one instant so..... 13 steps just aint gonna happen. That's why simple is going to be better. BTW : You can't "control" that response, it's triggered by the 3 guys with pool cues threatening to beat your ass at the moment, You can work with the response *IF* you know what to expect but that's about as good as it gets........so simple and direct technique is better.

When uke initiates attack, he breathes out (natural involuntary instinct). Nage breathes in (absorbing uke's force) while entering shikaku. By this time uke breathes in (to regain air) while nage breathes out to execute a forceful throw or pin or snap or atemi. Thus deprives uke of resisting the flow. Well, just a piece of my imagination.... Very good techniques. Very practical. I hope one day we can invite u here in the Philippines.

The second version is just henka waza, nikyo ura into kaitennage soto. Traditional aikido anyone. Traditional does do the knee strikes, we just don't normally talk about it. I was teaching this on Sunday and was emphasizing to hold the head down. This is so you can accomplish the knee to the head as the technique was designed for.

I really like the way you teach and it would be nice to see you on the seminar circuit. I feel like Aikido has been under attack by critics, so it is good to see certain people protect the art while explaining the ins and outs of it with sincere honesty.

Another good video showing things that make more sense in Aikido context. The one thing I slightly disagree with, is pain compliance. It can work, but in real life the attacker may not feel the pain and just rage out and break their own wrist and then maybe even punch you in the face before they feel the wrist break. IMO pain control should always be backed up by skeletal control.

I’ve been watching a lot of ur videos. And I have to say, right to the point. So much that you do is a lot of the concepts I follow. I study Nihon Goshen Aikido. I also find myself as the Black Sheep of Our system, NGA. I was raised in the South Bronx, NY. Growing up I’ve Seen a lot. And I have incorporated what I learned and made it work for me. Brought the Aikido to the streets. Utilizing my boxing and turn it into applications that many in my system never saw or they refuse to look outside the box. Funny, most call it Delgado-Do, including my Sensei Robert MacEwen. Love ur attitude of not giving a Fuck. So much being taught out here is so not practical. That I feel like ur in my head. To much alike. Keep up the great work and ignore those fuckers who couldn’t hold ur jock strap. Ous! Al...

Idk if u already have or not but can u do a video in this series on shiho-nage ? I've always felt that anyone would be able to easily defend against it no matter how it is performed. It ALWAYS seems like u would get hit in the process and lose the grip . I mean once the hold /technique is applied it hurts like hell and can be very effective but the transition is what seems to me is not effective. I hate having it done to me in fact everytime I say to myself "damn it would be so easy to hit my partner right now and stop this " lol. Neway is love to hear your take on and solution to this problem. Thanks

Lori Powell yea I'm hoping to see him do one on how it could work by adapting it similar to the way he does in this video . I'm not sure it's even possible to make it work would u have to change so much about the technique that it would no longer even be "shihonage" lol. Idk thanks for the reply hopefully he will do the how to make it work video soon. I guess I just get aggravated that I'm told to practice a technique soooooo much and that I need to perfect said technique knowing in the back of my mind that no matter how perfect I do shihonage I would still just end up getting rocked and ktfo if I tried it in a actual self defense or combat sports situation lol.
@pandabearlp

Frater, Shihonage means four corner throw. So however the adaptation, I'm sure it'll still be shihonage, as long as the arm gets bent the same way in the end :)

Lenny I've been watching your videos for a while and I have to send you a message I did Aikido for about 9 years under satomi sensei I never met Kevin choete sensi and my apologies if I'm spelling his name wrong my teacher was Eric Novak who is also still a friend of mine he no longer trains I like you, I'm tired of the Aikido coma that I got caught up in for almost 10 years I tested for 5th Q and never received my rank I don't care about rank the whole thing just fucking irritates me because I have found out a lot like you have that traditional Aikido is useless in a fight I study martial arts for the practicality of it if it's not useful in protecting myself than what is the fucking point I live in West Bend Wisconsin so I'm a ways from you but I would like to talk with you and see if we could work something out where I could learn from you because I really dig what you have to teach and I know you know what you're talking about a lot of these other people who call themselves Shihan or they've been doing it for 30 years they don't have a clue what a real altercation is and I feel that teaching someone the water down plastic peaceful version is an injustice to the person learning it because if they get in a serious situation they try to use the stuff that they've been taught in a traditional Aikido Dojo they may get hurt or even killed and that is wrong Lenny please contact me my name is Dan you can reach me at 262 573 0692 thanks for all the great videos your skills are fantastic

I started to love your videos (I was exceptical at the beginning); I think they have come better and better with the time and experience in these youtube fields. Nice video! Could you please put a bit more emphasis on escalation levels in general? I mean that when you show a technique that you give examples ranging from the most brutally efficient form (life or death form), over an intermediate form (normal street violence), to the least harmful form (like when some colleague got mad at another).

People say that Aikido does not work but to me arm wrist and finger locks do work as long as you can apply them.I think you must weaponise your martial art and get rid of kamikaze techniques 🥴
@jaketheasianguy3307
@jaketheasianguy3307 3 года назад
Joint locks always work, the problem is how you get to the position to apply them, which is even more important than using the technique. Modern Aikido approach doesn't work because most of the students and the teachers don't even know how to fight in the first place. Martial art is all about hurting the other guy, to neutralize the opponent in the most effective way as possible, it's a set of techniques how to use weapons (even your body is a weapon), you don't have to "weaponize" it. Aikido taught you to strike first so you could beat the other guy before he could strike you, yet most practitioners nowdays misunderstood it as stand still and wait for the other guy to attack first
