See Davos is what I call an honest salesman, he will bring you the truth even when selling it! And also what I love is that he someway somehow saw a portion of princess Shereen in her which means he didn’t have to fake it.

If you listen closely the background music during the cold open is a slow rendition of the GoT intro which is almost unnoticeable at first, but then it gets sped up and becomes more familiar as we see the Hound. That was pretty slick. The Hound still has one unfinished business.

Brother Ray (Ian McShane) was referring to his time fighting in the War of the Ninepenny Kings. Also known as the fifth and final Blackfyre rebellion. This conflict predates even King Aerys reign and was the battle that many prominent figures made their name. Chief among them a young Tywin Lannister. This was also the war that Hoster Tully and Petyr Baelish’s father became friends. Eventually leading to Hoster Tully fostering Littlefinger at Riverrun, where he would meet Catelyn and Lysa. Brother Ray has a very good segment on the season 6 history and lore. He talks about his time in the war, and how the poor are just cannon fodder shuffled from one commander to the next. It’s one of the best if not haunting segments of that history and lore edition.

There's a crazy fan fiction about Lyanna Mormont of bear island. It's fan fiction so no spoilers but the dots connect and it makes sense. Basically it says that Lyanna's father is Tormund Giantsbane. Bear island is very close to the wall. Tormund has gone over the wall many times. Layanna's mom was called the she bear. It's rumored that the woman of bear island turn into bears and find a mate in the woods. Also she has several children other than Lyanna but no husband is mentioned. She also only has girls Tormund say his she bear provides him with sons. With the wildlings if a man can carry you away you're considered his wife. We kinda seen this with Jon and the red head chick. Anyway one of Tormund's nick names is husband to bears. There's at least a dozen more connections that vaguely points in the direction of him being her father but it's never mentioned or confirmed either way.

Enter little Lady Mormont. You're not alone Major. EVERYONE loves her immediately. She is one amazing tiny warrior and has a better understanding of her responsibility to her house and people than many of the adult lords and ladies we've already met.

The hound is my favourite character with Arya a close second. He was a slave to his family duty and his responsibility to Joffrey. When he made his own decisions, he not only protected Arya, but helped train her and give her truths which buried the girl and the faceless girl was the result.

Sansa learns just how badly Robb effed up and Davos words ring true. Jon is acting like he did at castle black and Sam had to remind him , no time for pride we need men; so Sansa sends a letter.

Oh.. btw.. another gem you may or may not know, Maisie Williams, Arya, learned how to sword fight left handed because Arya in the books is left handed. Her idea, not the producers. How awesome is that commitment to your character?

After reading the books this parley scene hits different for me. Jaime looked up to people like the blackfish and Arthur Dayne, having nothing but great things to say about them. Then to come face to face with one of his heroes on the other side of a siege, and to be chastised by him for doing the right thing just shows the demons that Jaime has to live with.

How Alfie Allen never won an Emmy for his portrayal of Theon is beyond me....by far the character with the best arc so far, outside of Jaime Lannister, but Jaime only has redemption if Brienne is there...other than that he slips back quick,...but always does his best when she's around.

Speaking of Littlefinger being the cause of all the fighting: There is an amazing and plausible theory that Littlefinger started Roberts rebellion. Peter hated Brandon from their duel over cat. What if Peter was the one that told Brandon on his way to river run that Lyanna had been kidnapped by rhaegar. He would have realized how Brandon would have reacted and it would have been a good way to get his revenge. Brandon goes and gets himself killed and the war starts.

Ian McShane is a great actor imo. Deadwood (TV Series), John Wick and Blackbeard in Pirates of the Caribbean etc, etc. So charismatic.

Ian McShane is a fantastic actor, has been in many films and BBC series over the years. He most recently was in the John Wick series. Deadwood was the series that elevated him in North America and that was a great HBO series. He was also in Sexy Beast which is another great film. Check them out.

Davos was early on my absolute favorite character and he never lost that position. Major you said it.... Davos talks that talk. He's pretty funny also, which I like. But the reason that I love him....other than his scenes with Princess Shireen....is because EVERYONE In this show is playing a game.... Obviously that's why it's called Game of Thrones. There are only a handful of characters that are as honest as they could possibly be. Jon and Davos top that lost. But let's face it....Jon is not the sharpest sword......he's pretty naive and reactionary. Davos however IS pretty smart. And I love him because when nearly every character plays this game underhandedly or dishonestly or cutthroat. Davos wins every time and he does it being entirely honest. The man is a winner with a handicap compared to the rest of the players.

Watching game of thrones back reminds me of how much I loved the cast, just perfect in every way from Arya to Cersei. House of the dragon looks lik everything I wanted and with the source material it could be an epic. However the one thing I still need to see is how the cast is. Confident in Matt Smith but will I love the rest of the cast? 🤔

Lyanna Mormont is hands down my favorite character

I was just thinking about why seeing the Hound alive made me so happy. I do like the Hound, but it's not like he's my favourite character. So why was I so happy? I finally realized just now, that it's because Game of Thrones actually doesn't do this very often. In a lot of stories, if you haven't seen someone die you can't be sure they're dead, but Game of Thrones generally doesn't operate on that principle. I think for the same reason it kills so many people in the first place: it wants to constantly remind you that nobody's safe. Thanks to magic there are some exceptions, even for people who _did_ die, but usually we're half-expecting those because we know someone's trying to bring them back, e.g. Beric, Jon. So far the only other character I can think of who came back after we thought for a long time they were dead was Benjen. And I'm not sure he counts, because unlike the Hound we didn't even see him get mortally wounded, we only heard other characters say he must be dead; and not everyone was in agreement on that. They talked about him so much that it was almost certain he was going to become relevant. Plus we only saw him a few times before he disappeared, we weren't all that invested. But we followed the Hound for several seasons, we saw him get gravely wounded, he was almost never mentioned again after his last appearance, and we didn't see any Red Priests pray over his body to bring him back. This reveal made me so happy because it was a kindness we rarely receive from this show.

I love Bronn. He’s easily my favorite “side” character. He keeps it real, and he gets to learn form Tyrion and Jamie Lannister. Also an underrated fighter.

See how great of an emotional reaction it brings out of you? It had the same effect on millions and was being showered with universal acclaim by critics back then. That's why I always get a kick out of the hindsight fault findings of the purists. It was always more about them expecting things to go in certain directions and then being furious that it didn't. How dare it not be predictable. This wasn't a fuckin netflix fantasy show. It was never gonna go down the beaten path. This was never about making you happy by giving the protagonists easy dubs. What it was gonna give you was a gripping tale that would take you to hell and back. That is why audiences all over the world were captivated. That is why they got an unprecedented number of emmys. That is why it's one of the most watched shows of all time and no amount of post season 8 rewriting history is gonna change that. Purists have a knee jerk reaction to hate everything that is critically acclaimed. To them it's almost as if GRRM's greatness cannot be established unless you go out of your way to shit on everything else. Some of the things they whine about is stupefyingly petty. Yet these 'experts' have the most remedial and shallownunderstanding of psychology which they try to hide by wishful Appeal To GRRM's unwritten work! I've seen toxic fandoms, but the pettiness and sycophancy of the freefolks sub type Asoiaf purists hellbent on discrediting even all the good stuff is next level psychotic.

Major, I'm totally with you regarding the High Sparrow. At first glance he seemed to be an admirable character and living a life of service to those in need. Then he quickly revealed himself to be a religious lunatic and I couldn't stop hating him from then on. I'm also totally with you on how you feel about Tommen. He's just so passive and weak - I remember in a previous episode you said you almost missed Joffrey because - as much of a sadistic psychopath that he was - and, make no mistake, he was a sadistic psychopath - at least he was a person of action (his only redeeming quality.)

Remember this show Major… it’s always darkest before the light! It WILL pay off! The reason you have an emotional reaction from the good scenes is because you have a true understanding of WHY it was good. This show is genius because the violence is not gratuitous. The violence, the rape, all the ugliness explains why the characters make the choices the make. They are shutting you up before you start talking. If a character did something you thought was drastic and they didn’t show you what happened to them in life that made them make that drastic decision we would be lighting up HBO’s DM with a bunch of complaints. So please stick it out.
