I believe it should be installed higher than the bottom of the sink.

No. Tudor is an historical period or architectural style. A Studor vent is an AAV manufactured by Studor.

you could have put the tee in for the trap up another 6 inches and the plumber should have put the drain pipe in the back corner of the cabinet

@@Andrico77and you could have used a basket strainer in the sink that didn't drop so far right along with getting the 1st drop pipe shorter

And the plumber should have put In a positive vent in so you wouldn't have needed the studder vent in the 1st place if possible

For a sink, minimum 4” above the horizontal branch drain after the trap.

It’s an air admittance valve. It’s like when you put your finger on a straw in a cup of water, it creates a vacuum and is air locked, releasing your finger allows the water to flow. This valve allows air to enter, but not sewer gas to escape.

Question. I have a vent like this under my kitchen sink and water is coming out the top of it when i drain my sink. Is it clogged or something???

My shower has a bad smell coming from the drain, only when the water is running. I think it's because my bathroom lacks ventilation in the drainage. Can the problem in the shower be solved with one of these valves?

Is your house on the older side? Maybe it was also a remodel done poorly and wrong. I am going to say it’s most probably due to the lack of a p trap. A p trap holds water which prevents the sewer gas from coming up but allows water to drain when you use the fixture. Maybe who ever installed it didn’t know what they were doing or sometimes older houses lack it. You would have to either replumb the drain system if you have access to below or take your shower apart. I would call a professional in your area to make sure this is the problem as I cannot see what you have currently. In the video the guy has a p trap, but this vent he is installing is what you have to do to all plumbing drains within 5 feet of the drain to allow for air to enter to remove negative pressure. It allows for the water to drain more efficiently without the gargles. Hope this helps!

In my old azz house they ran the vent stack into an abandoned chimney, a way to avoid climbing on the roof. Crows like to drop crap down it all the time so eventually it will clog as happens around here. When it happens I'm just going to make use of these fancy valves, as I'm not climbing on that roof either. Lack of vent and the p trap water gets sucked out I believe. So my guess is if it just started stinking your vent got messed up because without a trap I think it would pretty much always have stunk.

I am in San Diego, moved into an apartment and I found out there is one of these very similar in the closet in the bedroom and I am getting weird smells especially at night, I'm almost sure it's coming from there. I cannot unscrew it, I was thinking if I couldI would pour water down there and that might fix it, that works in Montreal with the type of plumbing we have but it's not like that, there is not cap on it.

If it's mechanical it's going to fail and the best part is 99% of the kitchen sinks only need it because code says so on account of that 1%

@@George-yd7cxI'm moving a kitchen sink a couple feet basically due to new layout; my current kitchen sink isn't separately vented (the house has one vent at the main stack going out the chimney) and works totally fine. I was thinking I would do one of these valves but am debating since I don't have one now. It is going to be a longer run to the stack than it is now, like 10 feet more. Should I skip the valve? I'm not getting an inspection.

@kw6713a i will usually put a cap on where the studder vent goes and if it ends up needing it cut the cap off and put 1 on and you can use the cap for a cleanout if necessary
