Most of the paramedics on medevac helicopters put on gloves just as the aircraft is landing or while getting from the aircraft to the patient to save time and enable them to immediately start treating patients. This saves time in critical situations where seconds can be the difference between life and death. Even in a ground ambulance I would put on my gloves in the final minute pulling up to the scene so that I could start treating my patients with the least possible delay to their care. I learned very early in my career that the extra time that it took to pull on gloves at the scene could have catastrophic consequences for my patients and so I put on gloves while in transit to the scene so that I was ready to treat the injured with no delay. Most EMT/Paramedics have the same habit to speed up patient care.

There are variations in liver enzymes, and people of Asian descent's bodies may also respond differently. Co-Tylenol works for me. Oxycodone/Percocet does not, per my last three post-surgery prescriptions.

@@a.w.thompson4001 i agree some people are poor metabolisers of one or the other. the fact that oxycodone doesn't work for you but codeine does. means you convert the codeine more efficiently than a lot of people (can be actually dangerous even if you take a "standard dose" . Asian people have a gene mutation called ALDH2 which protects them from heavy drinking, and its also thought it does the same thing to opiates in their liver as well. the reason for this is because naltrexone/naloxone blocks the alcohol derived pathways just the same in the brain. its interesting. I myself am a poor metabolizer of oxycodone as well. and I convert codeine at a marge larger rate to the point I get serious side effects of a small dose

They are not laughing at the accident. The first one they probably can't believe the car went flying over and it's more surprise than enjoyment. Second the guy seems to say something to the other one, looks like "ah good job", because they already fixed some of the poor lady's injuries on the way in. As strange as it is to us, this is these people's job. The accidents have already happened, and they can only do their best to help these people make it out alive/as well as possible. They will not panic or cry because they have been on their way to the accident knowing it has happened and they have work to do. On such long workdays, it's possible that the camera catches a smile or a chuckle between the lifesaving.

This is normal and almost necessary for the job. If they allow themselves to become upset they can’t do their jobs. The light humor is a way of diffusing the counterproductive emotions which are natural in this situation.

Don‘t forget it is an extreme prehospital situation. The main focus lies on the right therapy asap! Aspects like hygiene can be neglected to a certain level, especially when the accident happend on a muddy horse track where the Chance of an already dirt infected wound is pretty high
