This is by far one of the most helpful informative video. It's exactly what I was looking for I'm going for my Air Brakes License in Ontario Canada next week, I've been spending hours trying to memorize everything step by step for Semi Trucks. It's taking a lot of time, I have to keep saying it out loud as I'm reading and putting the note book down pretending I'm doing the step by step as to what I would do as I'm doing it. The Governor settings Cut-out and Cut-in is one of the most difficult inspection to understand.
This is a perfect demonstration of someone who's been given a basic idea of air brakes, but really doesn't understand the system, or how the test should be conducted.
@@joshuadaly957 My instructors certification for the TTSAO and OSL, 20+ years as a trainer, 30+ years as a commercial operator, and a few other certifications says you're wrong.
Good video and one I will keep on a personal playlist. I'm in AZ training now and had my Air Brake Handbook out while she went over each section of the air brake test. The only part she skipped, bc it was a school bus and not a tractor-trailer, were the testing of the trailer service and spring brakes. For those who are thinking about becoming a professional driver, do it. I'm leaving the kitchen work I've been doing for 12 yrs bc there is very little growth, its virtually a dead end job, and kitchen work makes it difficult to provide for your family efficiently. I also acquired heavy equipment tickets prior, but added the AZ training to vastly expand possible opportunities. I cannot wait to complete my training, but it all comes down to the road test and air brake practical.
I don't think much of the negative comments because this is a pre-trip inspection, not a full DOT. Yes I know there are different standards for a 3 tank and a 5 tank air system but drivers don't know the difference. Great Job on the tutorial!
You were amazing .Explained everything in a nice easy to follow manner. I wish the camera man showed the fanning of the brakes for beginners visual learning .
After all of that don't bother picking up the kiddos because schools over / he he / but really that per trip test was a very good test you know you stuff . Great job
Why did you not pump the brakes down when testing the air loss for once minute to see if the automatic application of the spring brake application was functioning properly???
@metrotruck in the State of California you would of had an Automatic failure. When doing the warning light test it comes on between 55 and 75 psi . You are supposed to stop stepping on the breaks the minute you see the warning light on the dashboard. You kept going . The cola test or Otherwise known ass the air break test needs to be done at 100%. No mistakes out loud.
Thank you for the video. Just 1 question, should we not test the emergancy break? You have to leave on neutral. Pump the breaks till the emergancy breaks activates itself after reaching 30 psi or less. Am i right?
We do this on every chassis going down the line....... Air test. Pump it up and see if it holds. The admissible leak is about 1/2 PSI in a half an hour, if I recall I do not do chassis testing.
I have no problem with the music.. clearly there is people like you who can’t focus with some background music .. you also might not be able to chew bubblegum and walk at the same time .
@jasmin347 Why is "BAKING" dangerous? Are you allowed to bake and drive at the same time? And what kind of baking is dangerous? Would baking cookies be more dangerous than muffins,or cimmamon buns? How well would a Betty Crocker easy bake oven work or would you recommend another brand of oven?
Jim Radix you do NOT have to do the tests twice. The reason probably is, is because she has the bus running the whole time. As long as the bus is running the governor will always supply air to a tank that's low on air pressure.
there r anticompounding devices- that prevent excess pressure on brake system-even if u press both. actually u r supposed to engage spring brake , then release service br
@jasonmildward34 I don't think anyone does a free test, but the lessons and test would probably be included by some school bus companies if you agree to work for one school year.
For all you people complaining about the music. No one asked you to use this, if you don't like it then find another one. If you're going to watch it then stop complaining.
@kirk42011 how do you figure? the vehicle has to be running for the compressor to work. which means for your build up time, gov cut-in and cut-out the vehicle has to be running. she actually would have passed. hate to inform you.
I work for a company that has quite a few trucks with air brakes, and, I have to say, I have never seen anyone do anything remotely close to this during their pre-trip, and, believe me, I have been watching, as i want to get my DZ. No looking under the truck. No draining of tanks. No measuring. This is like a days work before you even set out. I suspect 99% of drivers never do any of this after they pass the test.
Also, who is going to get out on the ground, and roll around under a truck with a measuring tape when its raining, muddy, or -40 degrees outside? I pray my test is on a dry day.
Because it tells you if the pump is working properly. If you have to redline the bus to build up minimum pressure in the allowed time then the pump is not good enough for the road and air pressure will not be maintained for everyday driving.
start and finish sentence with 'kay' lol... a few mistakes, and for those that reside outside of Ontario Canada...this doesn't apply to you..check with local regulations as I am sure they would be slightly different.
