This is unedited taxi and takeoff footage from runway 27 at SAN (San Diego, CA) aboard an Air Canada A220-300 bound for YUL (Montreal, QC).
My seat was 2A and the aircraft registration was C-GVUH.

We hear so much about the A220's efficiency and operating economics. But Delta and JetBlue A220 pilots keep mentioning something about the crazy engine power this thing has, how its big wings can easily get it can get off the ground and climb faster compared to the A320 and 737MAX. So this is what it looks like, and even after riding the 757, this looks insane. Your A220 was a shortfield self-catapulting rocket, despite being loaded with passengers, cargo and enough fuel to cross the continent. A good catch indeed!

Totally agreed! One of the reasons I like the A220 so much is that it reminds me of a mini 757 (my favorite plane of all time).

Initial takeoff performance is good. The rest of the climb performance is horrible. 30+ minutes to 350+. 752 is about 19mins to 350 at over 100t TOW.

@@Dylanharvey995A look at Flightaware shows JetBlue BCS3 aircraft on 4.5 hour flights from LaGuardia to San Antonio making FL360 in 20 minutes. They still climb faster than the MAX, and certainly don’t have trouble climbing with transcon fuel loads.

@@texasabbott B6 don’t fly LGA-SAT. JFK-SAT is a 320. Of course most climbs are derated. But the 220 is a bit thrust limited in the upper 20s to 30s. The MAX I agree with you on, the -9 especially needs to be extremely light to get near 360/370.

I have always loved flying into and out San Diego International!! I love it when we do the vectoring turning over the Pacific Ocean and start heading head back east. It is so nice seeing the airport that we just left, the downtown city and different neighborhoods. Thank you for sharing...

There's a lot to unpack here. 1st, you got some good shots of my old alma mater, MCRD San Diego! 2nd, your camera really captured the notorious whale song of the A220. 3rd, I don't know of a more beautiful departure on a sunny day than SAN, with the possible exception of SFO. 4th, I think the A220 is now my favorite Airbus product.

The A220 may be Airbus rebranded, but it is by no means an Airbus product. It's a shame Bombardier gave up on commercial manufacturing.
