@@sazennonumber Wonderful thank you 😊 If I were to make that one again I think I would make the top loop a little thicker, but it's still sturdy and going strong
You could do although it is stickier than polymer clay so will likely get stuck to it a bit easier and need washing regularly if you want to dedicate one to just air dry clay, I find a rolling pin works just great. If you are worried about the thickness, set something equal down either side to guide the thickness. Thanks, Sarah
If you have already used polymer clay in the pasta machine , you may consider rolling the air dry clay thru the machine between 2 sheets of parchment paper
@@RedRockingBird you can actually get rolling pins with color coded end pieces that help with keeping even thickness (i worded that weird but I'm exhausted so hopefully yall know what I mean 😅)
That makes me smile, thank you for your lovely comments, more clay tutorials coming soon and lots more creativity over here, enjoy, and have a great day.
Ive watched loads of vids and just come across yours. Hoorah! I love the easy way you explain everything.......no nonsense, annoying music, stupid jokes or waffle which all drive me potty! Yes...I know..... I’m Mrs Grumpy from Grumpyville You have a very soothing easy to listen to voice! I also like that you use simple everyday items, which makes things much more affordable ....encouraging when you’re trying out this craft for the first time. Big Thankyou! The
Hi, I love your message, thank you, I love to encourage people to be creative and really believe you don’t need all fancy equipment and the fun bit is to give it a go without high expense, and I too appreciate watching videos that get to the point without too much chit chat. Have a great day, you’ve brightened my day with your lovely comment 😊
I agree with you. If it's just music in the background with no talking I just turn the volume down/off. But can't stand people waffling! when their videos could be half as long.
Yes indeed, coffee stirring straws like she is using are great for putting your holes in the top, perfect size and cost nothing. 😉 Ditto with her voice and how she gets straight to the point and uses what she has to work with. ❤️👍🏼
I really enjoyed your tutorial of making jewelry with air dry clay. I didn't know it was possible because it is so tiny and fragile. But doesn't it break very quickly? Or is it stronger than I think it is when dried?
Glad you enjoyed, the leaf shape on that is hollow was a bit too delicate and did break, chunkier jewellery works better, here’s my durability video: DAS Air Dry Clay - Durability - Stop Cracks ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kSdINQ8KGBI.html Thanks
I just bought some air dry clay and can't wait to begin making jewelry. I have searched a lot of sites that appeal to me, and yours is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much!
Hi Cheryl, thank you so much for your lovely comment, it makes my day, good luck with your venture. I'm just experimenting with other materials for my videos at the moment, but all the finished items can be made from air dry clay. Let it dry at not too warm a room temp, let it dry slower to avoid cracks, that's my first tip : ) Enjoy
Thank you for sharing. Is air dried clay water proof and is jewellery able to be worn in rain? Also can I use Mod Podge gloss to seal and varnish the pieces I make?
Air dry clay once fully dried is not waterproof no, if you put it in water it would completely disintegrate eventually, having said that if you add a waterproof coating like polyurethane or resin or similar it can withstand the rain. For general purpose use you can use mod podge
Don't know if it was a dud bottle, but I used Modge Podge once, to varnish some paper beads, and five years later they are STILL tacky. Haven't used it since. Clear nail polish worked better.
How strange, really not sure. I too have used nail top coat and had great results but lots have people have said nail polish goes tacky after time, but all brands will be different. Thanks, enjoy your projects 😊
I truly love your creativity! Since one week i work with air dry clay too and i cant get enough of it :D 2,5 kg are gone now and more can come with pleasure. So i just wanted to say Thank you! Now i'll make my Grandma a Necklace like the first one in your Video.
Hi thank you, for these smaller pieces I make sure I leave them for 48 hours, but depends on climate, with the white clay you will see it turn from grey to white once dry.
Nice job! Yrs ago ... I made some flour salt and water clay and made some ornaments and buttons, painted, varnished. I also use to make jewelry out of some thicker paper product (can't remember what it actually was) adding thin wire, tiny beads and painting. It was fun. I actually sold them, myself! I may have to try my hand at again for the memory of.
Thanks Janie, I love homemade porcelain too, i have videos and recipe for that over here too, just love the whole process of being able to make it from start to finish. Have a great day
Thank you so much I really really enjoyed watching you create these stunning and gorgeous pendants, my favourite is the blue one, because it’s got such an earthy feel to it. I’ve subscribed and given you a thumbs up too. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags
The tile is a smooth tile left over from our home renovation projects, anything smooth even a piece of glass I find works well, many people like a wood board but you’d have to lift and dry on a smooth surface instead
I love your designs :D You're really inspiring! Thank you so much for sharing, sub'd! Love your work! Also, is this type of clay cold porcelain or paper clay? Thanks! Also, how do you finish the backs of these? Do you paint those portions as well, similar to the front of the pendant? (Edit) The more I watch your designs come to life, the more I'm just wowed by your creations!
So kind of you to say thank you. I have more of these to come soon. Yes I paint the fronts and the backs the same way, I'm just getting to grips with the videos and how i put them together, making sure i say all the right bits! : ) This is the same as DAS air dry clay, you could use cold porcelain or the hot method too, I've not tried paper clay but it is on my list of things to try. Enjoy your projects : )
@@RedRockingBird You're welcome! Thanks for letting me know as well, I'm going to try my hand at a pendant with cold porcelain. I love how creative you are and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your videos ! Thanks for being awesome and inspiring! :D
Very lovely indeed 😍😍😍☺️ thanks for sharing....I always like seeing your channel....very impressed and your voice is soothing especially before I go to sleep.
Unique and stylish. Do you prefer this kind of clay, and if so, why. I bought some a couple of years ago but never used it. How does it hold up and how easy is it to work with? Thank you for sharing this with us.....now I have an idea what to do with 20 pounds sitting in my closet.....looking forward to seeing more.👍😊🌟
I love air dry clay yes and it’s a preference as it’s lovely to sculpt and is very affordable here. Some jewellery would be better from polymer clay but air dry is good for the chunkier pieces 👍 Enjoy your projects
I have so many art supplies, including air dry clay, that I hope to start actually using so this video was super helpful to me for ideas on how to use up my air dry clay! I even drew out little sketches and ideas for this! I'll probably seal mine in UV Resin but I really love to paint with acrylics so I'm thinking, after seeing this video, that I'll make some blanks with my air dry clay and then paint my heart's desire on them and then turn them into jewelry! Thank you for a wonderful video even though I'm three years late it seeing it. 🙂
I have seen a so many sites that to make a dry clay things But nothing I got . After looking so many sites I got you Exciting things you are very talented too. Now I have seemed so many videos of you . Actually what to say I don't know 😕 😅. I love you ❤ 💜 😘 💕 😍 ♥ ❤ 💜 😘 💕 Keep doing.
Thank you, that really makes my day that you are enjoying my videos, I have another clay video coming out in the next few weeks and I hope you will enjoy this and the rest too, keep watching and please keep commenting and liking 😍
+Red Rocking Bird, I really enjoyed your video. The clear and relaxed way you explain what you are doing. Your calm and gentle teaching style. Your pleasant and easy to understand way of speaking. The clean, uncluttered, attractive way your work area and supplies are shown. I have so many projects planned or in some sort of beginning stages, but everything is an unorganized mish mash. You have inspired me to do some major organizing work. I know if I can get my "making" areas cleaned up and organized, I'll finally be able to actually get some projects done. I am keeping in my mind a picture of your little work spot shown in the video as a kind of goal for me. It's very inviting. I am subscribing and looking forward to more of your videos. Thanks so much for doing what you do and being so good at sharing it. ~Janet
Hi Janet, thank you so much for your absolutely lovely message, I am so so glad it has inspired you. Creativity is so good for the soul. Having a clear and tidy workspace really helps to focus, mines not always so neat! Many more projects on here to explore, clay and other crafts too. Thanks, have a great day, Sarah
@@RedRockingBird Thanks Sarah. And it's comforting to know yours is not always so neat. But it's usually better when everything is clean and well organized. I'm guessing doing videos is a way to help keep things organized. Kind of like straightening up and cleaning because company is coming. Haha!
🤣 yes totally like that. Making videos also helps me keep focussed on fully completing a project so I can show you all. Us creatives can be all too keen to move onto the brand new shiny project and not completing that last 🙈 Tidy and organised is good. 🥰
@@RedRockingBird Oh, man am I so easily distracted with new project ideas! As I'm going through my mess of supplies and unfinished projects, it's great to find things I really want to finish. It's great to find a supply I really like, but had forgotten about. Most are a project in a stage of design development and a bunch of ideas come to mind about what all I can do with it and how to finish it and what other projects can spin off from it. I can't resist fiddling with it a bit. There are so many rabbit holes and I want to wander down all of them. 🙄 Maybe I should just pick one project with the goal of turning it into a video. Only one. Maybe that could make me learn some self discipline. Meanwhile, I will try to stay away from researching video making. That could turn into a giant rabbit hole. 😱
I love your work and how you explain! What kind of clay you using? I see neither your hand nor your roller gets white! When I use my white clay, it’s so messy and everything becomes white! How much you knead the clay? Thank you for your answer.
Thank you, my hands do get pretty messy too, but with these smaller items there was not much manipulation so not so much mess. I use DAS or hobbycraft clay, both seem the same. I now 'slap' the clay more than 'knead' it when fresh from the packet, if smaller pieces rolled together then I knead till smooth.
Hi. I used to varnish my baked fimo jewellery with either water based varnish or the ones used for small model cars but found them sticky even after drying. Dose this Wilko spray work?
Hi, I use air dry clay here, polymer clay reacts differently to some varnishes, I would use the top coat that the polymer clay brand suggests, so there is no chemical reaction to cause it to go sticky and spoil
Hi, i wouldn’t say they are fragile, if you do them at least 5mm at first, see what you think, when they’re painted and spray varnished it does give them more strength too, of course if you put a fare bit of pressure on them you could break them, but none of mine have broken so far. Thank you for watching I’m glad you enjoyed 😊
Thank you so much! Such a great video, you explain things so simply, it's easy to follow and as others have noted you have a very soothing voice, this gives me the confidence to try this new medium - excited !!
Wonderfull, I love to see your work , thanks for this sharing again . It’s really good and good to understand how to make it . But realization 😅 it’s another thing . For me now it is so difficult to be relaxing and to do what I really want to do , my head is tired . I hope 🤞 I’ll become too makes some easy little things. Glad to see yours video’s 🙏🏽 your so kind person , very thankful 😊 bye 👋
If too thin then it can yes, but it's not as bad as you can imagine, this DAS clay is great and I do a drop test in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kSdINQ8KGBI.html
Hi. A lot of spray varnishes turn polymer clay sticky due to reactions with the plasticisers in the clay. Have you found any to be a problem on air dry clay ?
This is why I love air dry clay, I’ve never had any issues with a top coat reacting with it, it’s a very different material to polymer clay, over acrylic paint varnishes and lacquers work great on air dry clay
Hi, when acrylic paint is applied and then a lacquer/varnish to finish I find they are fairly durable when made to 4mm or more, obviously if you make them very thin there is more chance it will break like with polymer clay. And most things if you apply enough force could break, but I find the clay works well for me. I just make mine for personal use and for gifts, hope that helps, enjoy your project.
Been watching a lot of your recent clay videos, just came back to this one. I see that the round red cookie cutter is timeless haha, perhaps you should make it your channel mascot :D
Just as I'm looking for clay ideas. I don't have much patience right now as I'm recovering from a 2020 injury. Being an artist I think I need to try something different.
Wishing you a speedy recovery. Air dry clay is a wonderful medium to use, from beginners to far beyond. I too am an artist but love very much to work in 3D, best wishes, what do you think you will make?
thank you. I have no idea hence I was surfing RU-vid for ideas. I normally work 2d but made my first Christmas themed diorama in December now looking for a change.
I have started watching your videos from yesterday and I'm loving it ❤ I was thinking to start a small business with clay articles, though I am already into nail extensions and press on nails I love your voice ❤ I wanted to know if we could bake them in microwave to speed up drying time?
Hi, thank you for your message. Make sure you condition the clay when you get it straight out the packet, so knead it really well first, add as little water as possible along the whole process to avoid cracks, obviously the larger you roll the more likely for cracks but I've not had my dishes crack(ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vZVJhRxiOa8.html), also don't dry to quickly ie near a heat source. The jewellery is great as small to practice on : ) Sarah
This was great, thanks! Can I just ask though, when you attach the findings (like jump rings or a bail) do you do that before the clay has dried, or afterwards? I haven't worked with air dry clay in jewellery making, so I'm curious. Thanks for sharing this video, very inspiring! :)
Hi, thanks for watching, I typically don't use findings with air dry clay, I like to knot cord around it, in a use what you have kind of way, but i do have a pouch full of findings that i do use for other jewellery projects, if using with the clay I would tend to add afterwards, so they don't mark the clay, but it really depends on the piece. Try different ways till you find works best for your project. This is just a bit of fun and I love wearing mine. Happy crafting, Sarah
@@RedRockingBird Thanks for your quick reply :) I was hoping to start small with say, earrings, or maybe a simple beaded bracelet, which led to my question for you. However, I do realise (having begun with a small decorated pendant this morning) that its probably best not to overcomplicate things! :)
Hi, air cry clay is not waterproof no, if you glaze/varnish/finish it then it becomes more splash proof, a spray lacquer is good, see my video on this ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-z0dtdQFQ-wM.html
Many thanks for this helpful video! Wonderful creations! I'm hoping to start using air dry clay for jewellery; I wonder if it is possible to set bigger stones such as small amber pieces into this clay or will they fall out? Do I need to use a special sealant or would an acrylic varnish suffice?
I'm really not sure how that will work, as you wouldn't want to get the varnish on the stones etc As the clay dries it would crack around a solid object too and would then need fixing.
did u use the dry brush with the green and powder?did u use water to make the paint move more on the brush?and the last one u painted with the holes how did u get the paint on the holes so it all looked the same
Yes a little water can help the acrylic paint glide better, just not too much. For the holes just have a small amount in the brush and paint gently so the paint does not pool, 2-3 thin coats of paint are better than 1 thick coat, hope that helps, Sarah
@@RedRockingBird with air dry clay the stuff u dont use like the stuff out side the bowl can that be re used if u put it in a bag?or once the air has touched it that it cant be used again?
Yes always let anything dry between layers. You could use a pasta machine, as long as you no longer use it for pasta again, although I find rolling with a rolling pin works well, you could always roll between battons or coins to give an even thickness ❤️
Hi, thanks, yes your sure could use a bead reamer, if you have one, I don't, although I probably do have a drill bit pretty similar, I love to use what i have to hand and hope to inspire newbies who don't necessarily want to go out and spend lots on so many different tools. What do you like to make? Thanks for watching
@@RedRockingBird I watched a video where applying cling wrap over the clay and then cutting it with a shaped tool would produce a rounded edge, instead of a hard flat one. In terms of durability and hardness, I guess a coat or two of clear resin would help, but yeah, I prefer keeping everything simple, practical, and manageable. The last time I worked with Das Clay was in 2003, when I was making architecture and environments for military dioramas. I recently opened an air tight container from 17 years ago, and this terra cotta Das Clay was still moist and pliable, unbelievable. Okay, enough rambling for one comment, love your work and videos.
@@billys3400 thank you, yes I love this technique. Your projects sound fab, hope you are keeping it up. I too found some terracotta clay in the garage which was over 10 years old and was still good to go 👌👍 Amazing, enjoy 😊
