Thanks for the instructions. I've did it 2 years ago on 2004 GL1800 and it was long (1.5 hours riping off and cleaning and 1 hour dressing up). I suggest to run the engine before putting back all plastics to make sure that all wires are well connected; I've forgotten to plug back temp sensor and FI red light flashed and 2 000 RPM. After plugging the wire, everything was OK (normal RPM witout FI flashing).
Before disassembly of all the electronic Tupperware, I snake a borescope up through one of the 'Air Cleaner Ducts' into the air cleaner box to check on the condition of the air cleaner on my 2002 GL. More than once, upon inspection, I've been rewarded with finding a serviceable air cleaner not quite needing replacement. Replacing an air cleaner is not for the faint of heart.
tc, Thanks for loading this vid. I have a few and they are a lot of work. So appreciate the help. That said, I test rode 2015 F6B this week. Great machine of course. I'm riding a 2012 Electra Glide. One of the questions to the dealer was how hard are these to work on? I gotta say, 1-1/2 hours to change an air filter doesn't give me warm fuzzies. I do most everything on my Harley and Suzuki...tunes, tires, carbs, valves, primary, regulators, stators..blah blah. So I know Honda's reputation for lasting forever...but if it's man-made, it will break. Especially if we ride them a lot. So have you done any other in-depth maintenance or repairs?? What repairs have you heard of that you would not be comfortable doing? I ain't given up on trading the Harley for F6B yet.
It sure is time consuming and expensive to have done but since everything else that would get changed via normal maintenance is easy, it's only one exception that would only need done every couple of years if not longer depending on average annual miles ridden and riding conditions. Not a deal breaker for me as I am looking at purchasing an F6B.
Make sure you dont buy anything older than a 14' because 13' on down had terrible tranny problems, mostly popping out of 5th. Mine would not even engage into 2nd after only about 4ok miles. The problem was eliminated in 2014 when Honda began undercutting the gears.
21000km? I'd extend that out to about 75k intervals for as much work as it is to change. It wasn't all that dirty. Quick blast with compressed air and bingo bongo boingo.
