We need to thank all those who sadly perished in past plane crashes as they have made flying much safer today. They did not die in vain, Rest in Paradise.

It wasn't a "combination of human error and extreme weather" that caused this crash. It was simply human error.

The pilots hadn't experienced snow and ice before, but they were complacent with their checklist given the weather at the time. Human error was absolutely the cause.

That Arland Williams was (is) one hell of a great person. Handing the ropes over to other survivors, knowing he was too tangled in wreckage so an attempt may have taken too long and potentially cost the lives of the others, was such a selfless, heroic act. RIP to all who lost their lives that day.

I find the use of the phrase "flesh eating Maggots misleading" - most maggot species don't eat live flesh - they're associated with infection because they eat dead tissue. If anything, they're very good cleaners and are even used in medicial contexts to promote healing.

There are maggots that eat live flesh. I work with stray animals and am often treating maggot wounds. It happens when a fly lays its eggs on an open wound. This is live healthy flesh. Once the maggots infest the area, the tissue dies.

I remember when this happened. We got slammed by two blizzards, a once-in-a-century type event for us.. Before the plane went into the river, it had slammed into the 14th street bridge, which was wall-to-wall cars at the time. It was evening rush. We also had a subway derailment earlier that day. It was because of ice. METRO had done some 'cost cutting' so they decided not to install deicing equipment. We have severe ice storms during winter, so that was a really stupid move on their part.
@michaelmuldowney8

Once was delayed 3 hours waiting to take off in a snow storm at Newark. The aircraft had to be de-iced twice. No passengers care about delays if it relates to safety.

It was not easy. The average person could not just jump into the Potomac River and save another person while swimming on a good day. You can’t just leap into ice water from a river bank and save another human in the middle of the river. You’re not jumping into a 4 ft swimming pool.

2:14 Learmount a pilot? He’s literally been unable to fly in command for nearly half a century (you read that correctly). And by his own admission almost exclusively flies simulators. If he’s a pilot, I’m a bonafide Formula 1 driver. I’ll take it. Go on then David.

To this day, the NTSB still clearly states, with evidence of course, that what caused the crash was ice on the wings. This isn't the first time this series got huge portions of the facts completely wrong. While entertaining, take all of these stories with a grain of salt.

I have heard different things about the Flight 90 crash. Here it is the engines being damaged by ice, in another it was ice on the wings and he used another plains exhaust to de-ice instead if the de-ice liquids.

exactly & because there are a LOT of oddities, including certain footage details between the at LEAST 3 versions of this episode of the tv series! which, appatently & much like the USA tv series, "Cops," has in between all their 'hiatuses,' contracted with various/sundry tv networks to broadcast that amazing, long-thriving tv show!..and ALSO: that was in USA Washington DC metro soooo: WHY did ONLY ONE helicopter EVER show UP??! WHAT'S the REAL answer to that?? BECAUSE, I mean, *if* a President of the United States of America was ever imagining anyone, any VOTER in that kind of DANGER?? would they not want to make certain EMS help was sent? people-being-saved helicopter/EMS-teams being ordered to SAVE LIVES?? RUSHING to a VERY PUBLIC location of the tragedy?? WHAT USA president wouldn't want to be known for exercising such an order?? which that kind of a situation not ONLY shouldn't & wouldn't even REQUIRE such an order all alone. BECAUSE it would be standard protocol regrading a step-up-as-needed-plan: local, state, federal..so WHAT was that LACK of a response actually about & I HOPE someone can help us to understand there was a logical reason.😥

At the time it happened I was glued to the tv, watching the man jump in to rescue on live tv. At that time they also said the plane sat too long at the gate without deicing the wings again. I told myself I would never fly in snowy weather. Lived in SoCal at the time.

No way anyone could predict weather conditions. Then with extremely bad weather, then aircraft's should not take off, and it should hv someone experience in the field to check out the aircraft's before taking off.
@0vven

when weather is bad they sometimes dont depart and just get delayed until its better, but if someone checks all the time its extremely unsafe due to the time to taxi so he would have to see the aircraft close

YOU KNOW IF TRAVELLING ANY WHERE BY CAR, BOAT, TRAIN OR PLANE and you're NOT sure what's ahead why not PRAY for PROTECTION from the unseen because GOD is with you all the time - YOU just have to ask for his protection for your 'Guardian Angels' to make sure the way ahead is safe and that the driver driving you is protected to get you where you need to be and ask to be protected on your return trip as well and it will be granted. BUT you have to ask first and be a believer and NOT a DOUBTING 'THOMAS.' ASK and FORGET!!! AMEN and AMEN!!! THESE WORDS HAVE POWER FOR PROTECTION from the UNKNOWN!!!
