I went thru Air Force basic back in March 1968. I was a little on the fat side, out of shape, and certainly not prepared for military life. Because of Vietnam, and the draft , enlisting appeared to be a very good option. It wasn't easy for me. Basic was only 6 weeks back then, but it was much tougher "sledding" to get thru it. Anyway, the Training Instructors felt I was screwing up. Back then, it wasn't called recycled-you were sent to the Motivation Flight. I was there for 30 days. I did extra PT,extra drilling, extra academics, and extra inspections. Oh yeah- And I received extra "ass chewing"! I the rotated back to regular basic with another flight to day 8 again. Needless to say, I was Very Motivated, and graduated with ease. So, if I can do it , so can you! - EX Sgt. (E-4).

I see that even though times have changed considerably the military discipline is about the same. I was so glad to get out of basic training in 1968 and was sent to Lowry AFB (closed now), but I learned to get along in boot camp and made a nice career in SAC (Strategic Air Command).

Not getting along with everyone is so true man. I did basic training in the British army. You just have to get on with the shit and switch your brain off. They taught us ''don't think, just do!'' And it got me through! Air Force training sounds good man.

I went thru the Air force Aug 1979 and man it looks alot different then i went in. Exercise and ran together as a flight six days a week. One lap first week and so on to six by the end of basic training. But when we ran it was never one lap they allways made us run more laps then what we were suppose to. I was chow runner and didn"t have to stand and tell people front or back. But i did take alot of yelling. So beware not to be a chow runner unless you like ti's yelling at you. Weldon Wright basic was the most fun I never wanna have again. That’s a direct quote on the wall in my dorm. I’ve met people that I know will be life long friends! It’s also cool to see myself get through such an uncertain and humbling experience as BMT. You will learn how to be selfless comrade to everyone around you. Thanks! This has been a long road for him. He was really under weight when he first tried to join. 20 lbs under . It took a lot for him to just get to the minimum weight requirement . He hired a trainer and worked hard. Of course he couldn't run much because he would lose weight . So it was a challenge to balance it. He used to be an ok runner so I'm hoping he'll get it pretty quickly

I've got a Grad Parade question. How do you get your cover back if it comes off during the parade? Obviously, you can't stop your march to pick it up. I've seen several videos with Airman completing the parade without their cover. I'm sure there's a set process to retrieve it. Thanks and congratulations.

johnamac123 that’s a good question. Luckily after the parade ceremony you are free to go with your family. (Or with any fellow airman if no family arrive for you) so you could go get your cover after the ceremony is over. I actually didn’t notice anyone lose their cover in my ceremony. I guess just pray that it isn’t windy lol

Does someone go around the parade grounds picking up lost covers and take them to a central place to have them picked up? I know I'd be really nervous walking around on the parade ground without a cover on with all of the MTI's running around.

Christopher Sixtos it's really similar to the SAT it's more just a placement test to see where you're at. I didn't even study for it and I got a decent score. If you're worried about it I'd just say take it to see how it is, and you can always retake it

My daughter is there right now, and my son was there 4 yrs ago :)) I'm so proud of both of them! My son wanted to go active and was sent to Japan where he met a beautiful Japanese teacher there, and they got married. They live in NM now with the AF. My question to this video is......How does he get a camera and all that time to run around free? Isn't it 8 weeks of forced structure and more of a locked down environment. You seem as though BC is just a job you show up to. I'm confused!

this video wasn't recorded at basic training. im already through basic and all of my technical training. as a military member who isnt in a deployed environment... you'd be surprised at how similar it is to a civilian job. you have duty hours and when you're done for the day, you have time to do what you see fit with your free time. so if you're confused by the title of the video, i titled it this way bc i was recalling my experiences at AF basic training. I went through basic about two years ago.

I always hear that if you do some preparation before basic you'll be fine, which I have, my pushups are good, my run could be better and I need to work on my speed of situps. I'm legit so scared about PT everyone tells me the same thing, if you have prepared at least some you will be fine, and I have improved, I used to could only run my mile and half in like 20 minutes and now I run it in about 15 or less, I haven't timed myself in a while for the mile and a half but I did time myself on a mile the other day and I know my mile is 9:32, I can do the push ups fine and I can do 40 situps in a minute, just don't know how to improve that speed on them. I really really really don't want to get recycled or fail due to my pt score...do you think I'll be okay?

Yes Emily you should be fine! you actually can't get recycled for a bad PT score, it all comes down to you final PT test! honestly i think you are just getting nervous bc you leave soon! which is totally natural and okay. What everyone else is telling you is true, you've put some quality time in and have prepared, you will do just fine. Have some confidence in yourself and i'm sure you'll kill that PT test along with everything else they throw at you! good luck to you, i know you'll do great! :)

Brady Nuñez yea I don’t know. I don’t know the difference in benefits between them all for one, it seems like every time I search or ask there’s a different answer. I don’t wanna leave my dog but I definitely want to join something. I’m gunna start a RU-vid channel about national guard cuz all the people I see are active and the more answers I get the more confused I get. I’ve already lost 50 pounds I just have to finish my GED and get my gauges surgically fixed.

I'm planning to join the Air National Guard when i turn 18, so is ANG training the same as Air Force training?

oh nice! thats a great option as well :) & yes if you are planning on going into ANG as enlisted you will go through the same BMT as active duty & reservists. we had a lot of guys who were guard in my flight as well as a few reservists though the majority of my flight was active duty

Its Rita yes Air national guard still goes to BMT. Guard is very similar to reserves. You typically stay at one base and usually only attend on the weekends, it’s great if you want to go to school while still serving

At BMT you give them a reporting statement "sir/ma'am trainee *your last name* reports as ordered." Other than that you address them by their rank

I know you said you can’t really talk about your job but how is your schedule?

my duty hours are from 0730 - 1530. from there i'm free to do as i please (which is mostly fiilm/edit content, hang out with friends etc.) HOWEVER these are my duty hours and depending where you're stationed it could be different. i know people with my same career and stationed where i am who have different hours. it all depends on where they put you. it can be anywhere from 8 - 12 hour shifts. If you have PT its usually scheduled somehwhere within your duty hours but that differs as well based on your leadership
