"GET OFF MY PLANE!" Fun Fact: Gary Oldman's performance earned him the nickname "Scary Gary" during production. However, he did not stay in character between the scenes. Wolfgang Petersen called the filming experience "Air Force Fun" because of how comedic and genial Gary Oldman and Harrison Ford would be off-screen. He also said that Gary Oldman would suddenly return to the menacing film persona instantly. Harrison Ford has since named Gary Oldman as his favorite on-screen nemesis. Also, Harrison Ford and Gary Oldman are actually hitting each other during their fight scenes.
It's true. Gary voiced Shen in Kung Fu Panda 2 and had a semi villain role in one of those Planet of the Apes as well. Oh and that scarred dude in Hannibal
Wolfgang Petersen's commentary for the AF1 DVD is one of the best ever recorded. The guy loves filmmaking so much and is so involved in every aspect that it makes his running narrative a joy to listen to. His description of the scene where the plane almost lands but doesn't is a thrill ride in itself. 🤩
You guys should give The Fugitive and Witness some reactions. Both are really good Harrison Ford movies that i think you two will enjoy. Edit: didn't realize you've already seen the fugitive 😅 Do still consider witness as an option though!
@@hannahburke7328better than Obama or Biden. Heck put the two names together it sounds oddly similar to Osama Binladen. If there was ever a truth to any of the crazy conspiracy theories that would be a big indicator.... But I digress. Just have fun with the movie. Stop bringing your shit politics into it.
You guys have now reacted to Air Force One, Face/Off, Starship Troopers, & The Fifth Element. Showcasing 1997 as one of the most exciting years for action cinema. Gotta continue on that route w/ Con Air, Conspiracy Theory, Tomorrow Never Dies, etc...
@@longhauler4life866 If somebody wrote that the current president of the United States is Chinese, it's pretty clear what they said, but the replied question remains the same.
Another fun fact: Gary Oldman has done so many different accidents that he had to hire an English dialect coach to learn how to speak with his native English accent.
3:30 Harrison Ford The President! 4:27 Sick Speech! 6:00 Shut Up Kid! 7:00 inside Job! 10:00 Gary Oldman is Piss off! 11:47 not the Baseball Glove! 12:20 What a line!😂 16:33 always the Hotshot A-hole! 20:33 He don't mess around! 23:23 Family is everything! 26:32 "Get off my Plane!" 28:41 Loser!
In Finland we have a history of badass presidents: Marshal Mannerheim, literally saved our country of 3.3 million from USSR with more like 200 million population. Certified G! President Urho Kekkonen, a star athelete with the god tier diplomacy skills to keep both the West and the East happy and Finland independen, President Mauno Koivisto, literally a long range reconn man who served during the continuation war under Lauri Törni/Larry Thorne ("the soldier who fought for three different armies (Finnish, German and USA)" )
I like to believe that he made it out and became a landlord in New York with someone named Peter Parker as a tenant, but I’m pretty sure he gets blasted…
Crank was awesome. Crank 2 was ok, a little too over the top and crazy for me but still watchable. I thought they would make a part 3 but for some reason they never did.
As someone who is not a fan of George Lucas-ing old movies, I would make an exception in this case and wholeheartedly endorse the studio spending a couple bucks to replace that PS1 cutscene-looking plane crash. 😂
You guys should watch: The Hunt for Red October (1990 - Thriller/Action) another adventure of Jack Ryan (young Mr. President) by Tom Clancy, this time player by Alec Baldwin. An excelent film. You guys are awesome!
In reality, the drama back at the White House situation room would never be an issue. Absent the President, the VICE President is in-charge. Not the Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense or anyone else. Of course, this being the 1990s, they had to question the authority of a woman in charge (the Vice President)
That's what I wanted to recommend. This is (to me) part 3 of the Harrison Ford/Tom Clancy trilogy. Thankfully, each movie stands alone, but in order, you'd watch "Patriot Games" then "Clear and Present Danger" and THEN "Air Force One." PG is one of my all-time favorite action movies because Sean Bean is so brilliant as the biggest villain and the direct threat to Jack Ryan's family in multiple locations makes it incredibly intense.
Remember the Name of the Director: Wolfgang Petersen! Check Out his best german work: "Das Boot" and his best Hollywood work: "In the Line of Fire"!!!! Greets from Germany!
Growing up my parents wouldn't let us watch R rated movies at all. Never. However, for some reason, when this movie came on TV my dad let me watch it. And I was pretty young. Now I know with it on TV it's probably more like PG-13 but this was still a big deal for me. Because of that, this is actually one of my earliest movie memories. This film lives as a core memory in my head rent free. Great movie.
Have you reacted to Snakes on a Plane? I think you would like it✈🐍 How did I miss that incredible line the first time around - The package is wrapped!😂
Great movie. One of Harrison Ford great movies. You should see it other great movies like Frantic, Firewall and his Jack Ryan movies . Other great airplane movies are Executive Decision , Passenger 57 and Flight Plan. Fyi Harrison Ford I heard does participate in rescue missions in real life. Fyi the baseball cup is a term used for the nuclear suitcase of the president
One of my favorite movies...I`m a hugh Gary Oldman fan since the start of his career...And of course, everyone loves Harrison Ford...Thanks for reacting to this one.
And if the President or Veep were on a Navy plane or helicopter, it would have the callsign "Navy One" or "Navy Two"...I am nearly positive that it is based on the Armed Service that operates the aircraft. Someday, there will be a "Space Force One"...at least I hope to live that long. 👍
I'm always surprised that no-one these days seems to react to how bad the CGI was with the crashing of the plane. For 1997 it was bad, for today it's actually about average if the films of recent years are to be judged against it. What does that say about the effects industry?
My view of "The mole" not revealing himself right away is this. I would assume that either he somehow met with the terrorists during his time at the White House, or was involved with the terrorists already and went undercover at the White House. Either way, that probably takes years to go undercover and recruiting someone already there is near impossible, so he would not want to reveal himself until there was no other option. There was a line in the movie that didn't make the cut, i believe the president said "I trusted you" and he said "So will the next president". All hope was lost for the current terrorist operation, but I'm sure others knew about it and he had done his job with this operation, which was to make sure they had access to the weapons cache on the plane. When there was no other option to get off the plane, being only one more could get rescued, he revealed himself, and if he had succeeded he could have said someone was still alive and killed the president and went on to work with the next president and the terrorists would still have an inside man. Idk, i may be totally off by this, but that's how i always took it.
He was definitely recruited because of his role. Heading the President's Secret Service detail is one of the most sought-after positions. It could be he was contacted while they were in Russia, as the whole operation seemed to be a response to General Radek's capture. As for his long-term plans, I think he was hoping the terrorists would get what they wanted and release everyone, and he would go on in his role with nobody the wiser. Once it started to fall apart, he had to maintain his reputation as a loyal agent. The only way out for him at that point was the terrorists getting what they want, which was virtually impossible by that time, or Air Force One being flown to safety. He only revealed himself when it was the only way to save his own life. While his motives aren't at all explored, it seems likely he was being paid for it. If he were a true believer in the cause, he'd likely have acted with less self-interest.
Fun fact: Harrison Ford character is actlually JACK RYAN, but he is called Mr. President in the movies/book due Tom Clancy (The autor) losing the right of the character's name to his ex-wife! So everyone called Jack Ryan (Mr. President) and the ex-wife didn't win a dollar even owning the name.😅
8:04 that one shot of the fire department showing was awesome but they would be the exact set of engines we would send to a airplane. Good on them for having a consultant
Great movie, with one of the best one-liners ever!! Ranked right up there with Arnold Schwarzenegger's "You're Fired!" Gary Oldman is one of the best actors today.
This is on my favorite list of movies, ones that I've successfully avoided. Sure it's got Gary Oldman in it, but so is Glenn Close and something about her head makes me nauseous. This was one of those movies Hollywood made to fulfill it's contracts and Harrison Ford was in everything back then. Until you two have seen Rutger Hauer in The Hitcher, your Patreons are letting you down, their that "uncle" your mom is always talking about.
I forgot that Xander Berkeley was the mole in this film because I haven’t seen it since the 90s. Xander was also John Connor’s adopted father in Terminator 2 Judgement Day
Ever notice how Harrison Ford kept making the same movie over and over and over again for a while there? "Wife Force One", a short here on YT, contemplates this important question. One of the funniest things I've seen on the platform. Check it out, you won't be sorry!
12:55 - I disagree with this statement. The President, whether they like it or not, is a Public Servant. Their free will is actually limited because they took an Oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution. Ultimately, that is their sole purpose for their term(s).
Thank you for doing this one, I haven't seen it in years. 1. I noticed that all of the Presidents during the 90s seemed to b heros. 2. Harrison Ford w/o Solo/Jones "Witness" and "Force 10 from Naverone. 3. Movie magic, the world's largest plane. Air Force One or not. I've been on the Air Force One tour at the Reagan Library and it's so small you have to go outside to change your mind.
John McCain (sounds a lot like John McClane - Die Hard) was a 2008 nominee for president who was a Naval pilot and shot down. He was Vietnam POW and withstood 2 1/2 years of torture. I think he'd've been very much like Harrison Ford's character.
I wish McCain had a chance to be president, I think he'd have been a great one. One thing I liked about him, he was respectful to his opponent Obama: There's a clip at one of his rallies, one person said "I don't trust Obama, he's an Arab" McCain cut her off right away and said "No, ma'am. He's a good family man, a decent citizen. We just happen to disagree on some of the issues and that's what this campaign is about."
@@marcpower4167 I have no doubts about that quality of his character. I wonder how different things would be if McCain had been elected in 2000 instead of Bush. I think voters chose correctly in 2008, though.
And now you see the context of what the president in scary movie 3 meant when he said I wonder what President Ford would do and looks at a painting of Harrison Ford
This might seem weird to Gen Z people, but at the time this movie was made, the job of the President came with a certain amount of automatic respect. You'd never see a movie like this now, at least not done so completely earnestly.
Harrison Ford has said many times he is a LIBERAL. In 2016 Trump said he liked Ford in Air Force One. Harrison Ford replied "Donald, it's a movie. Things are not like this in real life, but how would you know?" 😂 Ford implied Trump is a moron who can't differentiate between a movie and reality.
As someone who has been on board Air Force One a number of times I can tell you that the escape pod is not real. That’s something Hollywood came up with. There’s a few other things that are wrong but they did capture the essence of the plane and all that. Great movie!
13:50 I always loved this bit from the "In the Shadow of Two Gunmen" from "The West Wing" regarding the murkiness of power transfer to the vice president: TOBY: He's gotta sign a letter giving the Vice President power? NANCY: Absent of the 25th, the Constitution doesn't give it to him unless the President is dead. TOBY: He's hemorrhaging and he's supposed to draft a memo? NANCY: Yeah. C.J.: I'm getting questions from Danny Concannon on it. NANCY: It gets more complicated if you'd read section 202 the National Securities Act of 1947. C.J.: Let's assume I haven't. NANCY: It says the Secretary of Defense will be the principal assistant to the President on all matters relating to national security. C.J.: And what does 'principal assistant' mean? NANCY: It doesn't specify. TOBY: Of course it wouldn't, 'cause that's an area of federal law where he'd want to have as much ambiguity as possible.

One of my favorite films from the summer of 1997. Much like Independence Day (1996), we were given a U.S. president that spoke truth with heart and as an former soldier, no holding back in kicking some serious a**. Gary Oldman in the 1990s was one of the greatest actors to play villains and as fanatic Egor Korshunov, perfect. Glenn Close as the first-lady vice president (a first on film, pre-Kamala Harris) felt really believable in how she handled the situation. The two main separate-sets, AFO (airborne) and Situation Room (on the ground) are directed very well. The camerawork matches and moves along every space perfectly just as they are IRL. I like the action sequences between the aerial battles and the confrontations on AFO, especially with Ford doing most of it and just being the rugged actor he is. Lastly, Harrison Ford as P.OT.U.S. is considered to be one of many beloved presidential portrayals (why not?). It's because Ford can pull off real performances in action/suspense films and nothing wrong with that. Hopefully you'll check out other classics by The late Wolfgang Petersen: Shattered (1991), In The Line of Fire (1993) with Clint Eastwood, The Perfect Storm (2000) with Wahlberg & Clooney and Troy (2004) which is amazing.
My favorite Harrison Ford movies: Working Girl (Melanie Griffith, sigourney weaver, Alec Baldwin, Joan cusack, and you will notice actors you recognize - before they were stars). Mosquito Coast (Helen Mirran, RIVER Phoenix)
When I think of president movies. I have 6 that immediately come to mind. 1. Airforce One. 2. Independence Day. 3. Dave. 4. The American President. 5. White House Down. 6. Olympus Has Fallen. There are others but I'm fair certain that y'all can agree that the speech before the big battle in Independence Day steals a lot of the show and indpires you. Which is why it's on the list. There are a decent number of reaction to this movie on YT. There are a handful of Dave and American President reactions (both are fantastic). Everyone has done Independence Day (including y'all). But no one does White House Down, and (only a handfull of) Olympus Has Fallen.
