You're on the first floor which means you may likely be Dental. I have a few friends that are Dental and they enjoy their career. For the most part anyway. lol. Looking back at these dorms makes me appreciate where I was and where I am currently. Not sure if you've graduated already. The first floor jobs tend to stay at Sam Houston for about 1 in a half to two months. You're probably at your duty assignment or are headed there shortly. I hope you're enjoying your AF career thus far.
I thought that was the rational for having females on the upper floors. But That's tech school for you though. people are always getting pregnant at tech school. The first week i got there the girl in the room across from me committed suicide. But
There are two main phases in Tech School. BTP and ITP. The rules vary from Tech School to Tech School and it really depends on how long your training is. I'm at Ft Sam training for Medical for the Air Force. Our BTP period is a minimum of 30 days. I've heard of people being on it for only 3 weeks. While on BTP you will be required to wear your ABU's everywhere the minute you leave your dorm with the exception of working out. That's when you will be allowed to wear your PT uniform. After you move to ITP you will then be allowed to wear civilian clothes after the duty day as well as go off base and stay overnight in town. Again, this all depends on what base you are at for Tech School and how long your training will be. Here at Sam we also have to pass open ranks and room inspections in order to maintain our privileges. PM me if you have any other questions.
How many jobs were you allowed to put on your dream sheet and which week were you allowed to choose them? Lol I'm sorry about bombarding you with questions but I'm going in open general in November of 2016.
Hey! Im AF and went in Open General as well. I just got to tech school here at Ft. Sam last Monday. To answer your question, you will go to the Career Guidance Center in your 2nd Week of Training. You will be given a sheet of jobs that are available to you for that week. Since you're open general there will only be jobs that fall under that aptitude. You can list as many or as little jobs as you want. You will number them in order of preference. You will not find out which job you get until the end of BMT. I found out the Monday of 7th Week which was a couple days before graduation. Aerospace Medical 4N0X1 seems to be a job that is in demand. I know people who saw it on their lists that were in different weeks of training as me. The training for it is pretty intense. There is a high failing rate with Skills and Registery being the main reason why Airman get washed back a week or two. If you get this job just make sure you are committed and study hard. The freedoms of Tech School can be a bit distracting which is why most people fail. Good Luck.
Sal Cabrera hey I had a question like I talk to my recruiter and told me it's going to be a very long wait to get a medical job and I'm honestly not trying to wait that long so i was considering going in open general .. and I do want aerospace medical or something in the medical field do you think it's still in demand?
Tajanique Ware So first, Aerospace (nursing) is one of our highest washout/hire in jobs. So you have a better chance for it than any other medical job except for super easy ones. And the wait depends. It's when a slot opens up that he can offer, I got mine first job list, but it could also take months. Hope this helps
