I love airplants. Maybe you could do tillandsia spotlight so viewers can easily deal with the specie they have. 😁

Thanks so much! You were very clear and thorough. After the mother plant grows pups, do they die? 🥺

I recently purchased Neglecta that's been mounted. However, the space on its mounted cork is very tight. I wonder what to do as they grow slightly bigger. They are glued on. How do I remove the pups, or do you have other ideas?

Hi! I just got my first two Air plants 2 days ago and I’m not sure what species they are. I’m from The Philippines, and the seller didn’t give me the specific specie but I noticed that it looked similar to the commonly sold Air Plant around here which is the ionantha rubra. I did some googling and I didn’t get the specific info I needed so I thought I’d ask you. Do ionantha rubras bloom first and create pups later or can they create pups before blooming like ionantha mexico and ionantha guatemala?
@DavesAirPlantCorner
@DavesAirPlantCorner 4 года назад
All the ionanthas behave a bit different, but I would say 85% of the time they produce flowers before pups; however, ionantha mexico is a pupping machine and they can easily pup before sending out flowers. If you want to check what you plant is, feel free to email me at info@davesairplantcorner.com or find me on facebook/instagram :)

great video. thanks! so the ionanatha you have is growing pups even without flowering. isn't it the natural process where you have flowers first followed by pups? i was wondering how that is possible. and also when you were separating the xerographica, if it doesn't twist off from the mom too easily, is it ok to use a knife to cut it off? thanks! enjoy watching your videos!

Hi Daphne, it is usually the case for most air plants to flower before pupping, but not for all the species. Some plants once they come to maturity they can start to produce pups or grow in "clumps", basically meaning they grow multiple pups at a time and the whole plant grows into a ball. Plants can also pup if the mother plant has partially died off but there are still green tissues, it will produce pups still as if it has flowered. And yes, you can use a sterilized knife to cut off pups, I have personally never done it, but as long as you don't cut off the base tissue of the pup it will do well. Sometimes if you cut it too high the plant will not survive. Thanks for watching! Happy growing :D

How to you get your plants to bloom abx produce pups?
@DavesAirPlantCorner
@DavesAirPlantCorner 3 года назад
They love humidity and bright light! Give them these two things and they will grow well and bloom/pup. You can also consider using fertilizer to give them an extra boost of nutrition :)

After the air plants bloom, will the pups appear all at once, or one after another?
@DavesAirPlantCorner
@DavesAirPlantCorner 3 года назад
Usually one after another but some plants tend to have multiple pups at once, which means they're basically growing in clumps. T. ionantha is one of those plants that can have multiple pups growing at the base at once.

I heard it's not advisable to touch them with your bare hands. True?
@robertopetraroli9466
@robertopetraroli9466 3 месяца назад
You kinda aren't able to work with them at all if you don't touch them, so I wouldn't say that's true, although when handling you must be careful as to not damage the trichomes

isnt it if your air plants are dehydrated their leaves curl? your biggest airplant is just dry and not old...
@DavesAirPlantCorner
@DavesAirPlantCorner 3 года назад
They don't have to be dehydrated to curl but you're right a lot of them do curl up when they are drier. If you're referring to the Xerographica, it is an older specimen (at least 6-7 years old) but if I water them more it could have straighter leaves yes.
