I want to know when the air quality degrades on the farm, so in this video I set up an air quality sensor in Home Assistant.

Good Video. I don't have the device you show in the video but my ecobee thermostat is the premium version which has air quality sensors built into it and i integrated it with HA via it's home kit integration. It show air quality, VOC's and CO2 values. So i followed you in your video and worked out great. Didn't know about the Air Visual integration, that was a good find 👍

Thanks Larry, that is awesome. It does matter how information is displayed to make it as useful as possible :) I am tempted to get an Air Visual device, if it can work outside as well.

Interesting video, thanks for taking us along! One small thing In noticed: IndoorDoctor's CO2 levels are "above the background level", which is already 400ppm - that's just the natural CO2 concentration in the air. Just something to keep in mind if your meter reports absolute values (which the Tuya Device I have at home does). If you never see the needle in the "ideal" part of your gauge, this might be why!

Thanks Max 😊 Yes, I am aware, which is why I mention maybe changing the colour of the yellow, as that is actually indoor normal levels. I should probably have dark green, light green for the first two levels? 🤔

Hows this sensor going for you? I got a WiFi version after I saw your video for my Study, since I spend extended periods of time in there, often with door and window closed. I noticed the CO2 levels seam a bit weird. E.g. overnight I had the window open and not in here, and CO2 levels were hovering around 600-800, with spikes of about 1000. this morning since I closed the window and been in here its hovering around 400-600? Which just dosen't seam right? I would have thought window closed, me breathing would mean the CO2 should be higher? Just wondering if mine is being weird?

Mine is still going strong. It hasn't given any weird numbers for me at all. My CO2 numbers are between 450 and 700 generally.

Very interesting video. I was wondering however what action you can take if the air quality is poor?

Depending on which part of the air quality I guess. If the 2.5 particulate matter is high, I'd check the surrounding area to see if there are bush fires, and then possibly leave for a while until it comes down. If it is CO2 then air the room, and the same with formaldehyde.

Well insulated house are becoming more and more airtight, so they require active ventilation, in myhouse i have a so called system D, which takes fresh air from outside, heats or cools it with the stale old air from inside the house. (Via a heat exchanger )depending on the season and vents it in the house. It is network connected and I integrated it in home assistant. It has 4 different speed settings, where higher speed settings use more power and produce more noise and cool/heat the house faster. Wirh hone assistant i can manually or via automations set the speed level via the units api. I try to keep it at the lowest setting that keeps the air fresh enough!

Thank you Lars for testing this device. Unless I watched too fast, you don't say much about the reliability of the values reported. Have you got some views on that?

Hi Guillaume. If you mean reliability over time, I had only just installed it in the video. 3-4 months on though it is still running just fine. It lost connecting to the Wifi once, but I just connected it again and it was all good. I don't have any other device to compare measurements with, but when we are cooking in the kitchen which is the next room, it does show on the particle count, so it seems reliable.

I carry a little USB-power CO2 meter with me - often you're in meeting rooms with terrible air quality. Recently at a long brainstorming session I broke out the meter and the CO2 concentration was over 3000! We took a break, opened some windows, and within minutes it was back to 400-500 range. Sometimes its CO2 that is impairing your productivity.
