I'm learning RN after a decade of doing native iOS and Android dev. Finished this end-to-end and it was a blast. Thans, Simon, for making all this great material available to us for free! Used some more patterns like state hoisting after breaking out the booking screen sections (the where, date, and travelers) into their own components. Also used the react-native-collapsible library for the accordion sections. Also added an animation to bring in the new listings based on in which direction you switched categories in the explore header.

Amazing! this is exactly what I was looking for. What would be really cool if you can show us how we can connect from the mobile app to an express server and use Clerk on both sides to make sure that the user is authenticated when calling the express API. I have never seen tutorials about this.

Hi Simon. First, thank you for all the effort put in this tutorial. But, I got stuck basically in the first interesting feature, the sign in process. I'm using a physical android device, and basically I get "Unmatched Route. Page could not be found". Very generic error that I cannot get rid of at all. I read the comments and it looks like this tutorial should say in the title"Airbnb clone with React Native for iOS ONLY". RN is meant to be used with Android and iOS. This is the 3rd time I start a "course" and I have to give up as it doesn't work for Android (also I can see that there are not replies from you in most of the comments related to android issues). Now I feel I wasted quite a few hours to reach a point where I got stuck and not able to resolve the issues. Anyway, thank you again for the effort put in this tutorial.
Hi, i am also struggling with with the development using my physical Android device, specially on the map section (i am currently in that part), I see that in general he gives a very nice overview but for many topics we android users need to invest a bit more time searching in how to make it work properly for android. When you are trying to sign in, you get the error before or after the sign in kicks in? i got a similar error, but mainly was a typo in the main _layout. I recommend you to check your routes and names, also the name of the file matters a lot. Greetings and happy coding!
@@GranMaestroEd Thank you so much for your reply. I get the error after the sign in action (goes back, then the error screen shows up). If I close that error screen, sign in page comes to foreground. I suspect 2 issues regarding Google Auth, 1. production environment requires some extra settings that is mentioned in the video, which may ease the pain we face during developement, I don't know. 2. Google auth has different callback path that our auth function using router.back(); cannot properly handle it What I did: 1. I think I will not use Clerk so I acknowledge this problem and treat it as it, I will definitely find some other way to achieve Apple/Google auth later; 2. instead of using router.back() , I checked that I have the createdSessionID, I use router.push('/') to send user back to index page then. Not ideal but at least I can move on to other parts of the tutorial. Yes, I learn a lot from this tutorial. I has zero knowledge about React Native before.
Simon, what extension is adding that popup when you hover over typedRoutes in app.json? (Explaining what it does) Also seems to add autocomplete to that file. (It was "Expo Tools", leaving this here if anyone else is curious.)

Simon your turorials are excellent can I offer some critique? As a relative newbie I am trying to follow along and I can pause which is fine. The code isn’t always visible because of your camera and also we jump between screens really quickly. I don’t mean to be negative just sometimes I’m struggling to follow when it’s like this.

Hi. I cannot seem to log in using Apple, Google or Facebook. I get the error "cannot read property 'toString' of null. I triple checked the code and it is exactly like yours. Maybe Clerk does not work anymore.
40:40 i got a problem with error in a console: Text strings must be rendered within a component. and some problem with InternalBytecode.js, and expo-local-authentication
Usually that indicates you have some text outside of a component, RN is picky about that. Also, there seems to be a bug with Clerk right now where you manually have to install expo-local-authentication!
Hey .. i am getting compilation error for line const { id } = useLocalSearchParams(); of [id].tsx file.. Below is my error: Static Rendering Error (Node.js) SyntaxError: C:\Projects\EXPO\airbnb\app\listing\[id].tsx: Did not expect a type annotation here. (6:44) can you tell me how to fix this ? any tsconfig.json or app.json or any thing to change in project or vs code configuration ? PLEASE HELP.. Hello. First of all thanks, really helpful tutorial. I also want to ask a question. As soon as I use any item from the clerk library, I get a lots of this errors "fontFamily "montserrat-sb" is not a system font and has not been loaded through Font.loadAsync" despite the fact that this is how they are loaded. and also this one error "0, _expoModulesCore.requireOptionalNativeModule is not a function (it is undefined)". As soon as I comment out a line of code where I use something from the clerk library all the errors go away. How can i fix that ?
In the initial stages of implementation, the open-source code I've received seems to be ahead of what is currently implemented on the screen (the open-source code appears more advanced). Can I ignore this discrepancy and continue following the project as is?
I have tried to make the apk using eas build of the airbnb clone we just built , but it doesnt start upon installation and it directly closes down . Any help / suggestions ?
@@avaneeshc the issue is that the author doesn't care about Android. During cross-platform development, you should care about each platform functionality :)
Wonderful Video! I love this tutorial alot, but one thing i wanna ask is when i am in development mode, try to sign in to the google, the page will not consule log the createdSessionId, I just cannot fix it, and also I check with the clerk dashboard, the user is not there, please please help me!!!

hello Simon my name is Fer and I am one of your members in the Galaxies pro plan, I've been trying to use Clerk as my default Users authentication service, but none of the authentication process in this tutorial is working in my app, I have a google and meta developer account everything is set, also in my clerk dashboard, I am not able to add users at least if I do it manually, And I really want to use Clerk, thanks in advance for any advice or help that you could give me, best regards

For android, this example is a mess. The scroll view its not working as the example. The bottomSheet throws an error and its only displayable if its wraped inside a GestureHandeler. Overall experience trying to use this example in android environment was hell.
In the index page wrap the listingsbottomsheet component and the listings map component with a gesturehandlerrootview component,that would fix the error.
