Thanks for this demonstration video. I've been thinking about getting a cleaner like this for a while and you've shown how well it can work. I would enjoy seeing more videos like this where you demonstrate different hobby equipment because you do such a great job presenting them.

Your video is what made me look for one of these. I found one basically identical, but with a different brand name, but like you said, brand name really doesn't mean anything in this case.. It was the same shape, same button layout, and same cutout on the top. I'm loving this cleaner!

I have the same machine and it works great. One thing though... I would not put the nedle in the cleaner as it may bend the tip.

Great video my friend, I've been looking at one of these for a while but have always thought it's being lazy, a little elbow grease and it should be clean. But I am now thinking of investing my modelling vouchers in one of these.

Thanks Steve. I would strongly recommend that you get one of these. I have only used it to clean my airbrush so far, but I hear that one can strip paint with this as well without damaging the kit. Research is underway, I shall report back with results at the earliest :)

Great video bud. Wanted to ask, what paint was on the airbrush that you cleaned? Another thing is I have a similar airbrush. The tip has a white plastic type seal on the wide end, did you remove that or just left it on? I couldn't tell from the video.

Do the o rings have to be removed ? They are so difficult to put back on and sometimes become ripped

Glad I found this video. Me too have an airbrush that had been neglected for 2 years. And it is clogged with some primer paint. My doubt is should I use air brush cleaner liquid (e.g. Mr. Tool cleaner) to clean it with the ultrasonic machine or just water with normal cleaning liquid?
@scalemodellingmadness4114
@scalemodellingmadness4114 3 года назад
If you use Mr Tool Cleaner it will work better. However, make sure you first remove all plastic and rubber washers else they can get damaged and then your airbrush will not work properly. You can buy extra washers online, but its always best to try and not damage the brush. Also, wear gloves with Mr Tool Cleaner. But in honesty Mr. Tool Cleaner is the only thing that I have found works well with really old dried paint.

You really should use the basket. putting airbrush parts directly on metal can damage the more delicate parts. Also, using a mix of water and Simply Green works far better.

@@scottvaldez6699 I got a basket with mine but the bits fall through. Some people recommend using a paint jar (10 ml capacity) for the smaller bits, but I'm not sure that the ultrasonic penetrates the glass.

Should not use bristle brushes to clean airbrush parts, only interdental brushes. This is from Ken Schlotfeldt of Badger Airbrush.

Oh no : ) 1. NEVER EVER put things on the bottom, the vibrations will transmit metal to metal, damaging the equipment 2. Never put the body into the bath, lubricants will be stripped and there are different metals in it so electrolytic reaction occurs. 3. Aluminium should never be put in ultrasonic cleaners it is very soft Check that what believe to be true is in fact true before you encourage people to destroy their equipment From H&S: Never place the entire airbrush in cleaners or solvents! The mechanics of the airbrush has many different parts that must not be cleaned and will lose their mechanical functions by using cleaner. Also any lubricants will be flushed out of the mechanical parts (air valve, Quick-Fix end piece, end piece with paint volume control and the entire waist). Only the parts that come into contact with paint, have to be cleaned (nozzle, air cap, needle, color cup and body)! What cleaner can be used? Generally the cleaner depends on the paint's basis. For example, water-based acrylic paint can easily be cleaned with water. Additionally a customary airbrush cleaner like Hansa procolor airbrush cleaner should however be used for a thorough cleaning. This cleaner must in no case be aggressive, or contain salt or ammonia. In general, different metals must not be cleaned together in the same bath, otherwise an electrolytic reaction occurs. Alcohol or thinner may be used in accordance with the materials of the parts. Please necessarily read the safety instructions of the respective manufacturers. May an ultrasonic bath be used? Only the parts mentioned above may be cleaned in an ultrasonic bath for a short time. Especially with regard to outer parts a rubber mat should be placed on the bottom of the ultrasonic bath to prevent scratching. In the ultrasonic bath only cleaners as described above should be used.

Esben, none of what you fear is true. Ultrasonic cleaner were invented and became popular because they are extremely gentle and do not damage fragile equipment. They are used to clean super delicate materials like medical equipment, watches and other precision materials. So, no....there is no way a home cleaner is going to strip metal off your airbrush...lol. Mr. Muscle is a gentle soap solution, not a solvent or paint stripper. You can try your level best but you will not be able to damage your airbrush with soap :) Sooner or later the lubricant on your airbrush will need to be replaced. So, do what I do, replace it. Buy some machine lubricant and add a few drops after every clean. Everyone does that...it called common sense. Electrolysis?? Please man no. That is not how that works. Although high school was many decades ago, I do remember that it took very specific metals in something known as an electrolyte and then you had to pass electricity through it for the metal to destabalise and free ions to move. I mean, surely you read about this in school. Putting an airbrush in water and soap will not cause electrolysis, of that I can assure you. Also pure aluminium is soft, but we don't use pure aluminium, do we? We use commercial aluminium which has silicon and iron in it making it one of the strongest materials being used today. That is why most aircraft are made from it. Placing your airbrush in a water and soap solution in the ultrasonic cleaner will not damage it. Also, if you can strip metal using water, soap and an ultrasonic cleaner, I would advise you to get that patented because you could possibly make billions of dollars with that technology.

@@scalemodellingmadness4114 I don't want to argue with you, I posted for the benefit of others. I just hope that you can change your your mind at some point. There is nothing wrong with making a mistake or believing something that is wrong. You give that answer because you are confident and you don't like to be criticised, which is natural. Remember that admitting to a mistake takes courage and most people respect that. It is called galvanic corrosion, the electricity is generated the same way as in a battery. It is subtle, if you only do this a couple times per year nothing will happen, maybe slight colouration. But you recommend it as the optimal solution, which it is not. Harm does occur every single time. Whether it is enough for you to see is another question. But what about people who use theirs a lot? Don't you feel at least some responsibility towards your viewers? Google "Galvanic Corrosion"

And for others reading this thread: Yes Ultrasonic cleaners are very gentle, when used correctly. They work by a vibrating coil, mounted directly to the bottom of the bath, pushing and pulling the bottom, up and down. When pushed up a shockwave is sent towards the surface, then when the bottom is pulled down there is a drop in pressure, this causes cavitation bubbles. These bubbles grow and then implode. This is what is cleaning the objects. How fast are these vibrations? A good UC will be around 40 thousand times per second. So picture a delicate instrument made of different kinds of metals being on top of another metal surface vibrating at 40K per second. All I am asking is that he uses a basket like every manual says, and don't mix metals, or at least tells you this will harm your airbrush if you follow his method... Here is a very good video explaining it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6EEQI00ZvNk.html

@@esbenrasmussen4289 My friend, you can use as much soap and water as you like and nothing will happen to your airbrush. I guarantee you that. Even in the ultrasonic cleaner. This not how a battery works. This tiny 35W 40kHz cleaner does not have the power to strip any metal. You will be lucky if you can get it to clean paint in one go...lol. I have used this cleaner (in fact I have three) for almost four years now, and I have experimented extensively with them. I know what I am talking about. Anyway, enough said.

would you ever risk cleaning your airbrush in the ultrasonic cleaner with flammables e.g. isopropyl alcohol or methylated spirits ? and if so for how long / how many cycles
@scalemodellingmadness4114
@scalemodellingmadness4114 6 лет назад
Hi Dave. I don't dip the airbrush in any strong chemicals (alcohol, spirits or thinners). There are several rubber and plastic washers and seals inside the brush and extended exposure to these liquids may damage these. I do however use some NC Thinner to flush the airbrush to clean it. For the ultrasonic cleaner I stick to water and Mr. Muscle or some such non-abrasive liquid soap. Hope that helps :)
@davedogge2280
@davedogge2280 6 лет назад
hmm good advice I heard from someone before saying that it's not a good idea to use alcohol, spirits or thinners in the ultrasonic cleaner if it has a RUBBER seal, I'm guessing as you stated its the same for the airbrush if it has any rubber components. I think I'll use those heavy cleaners on regular brushers (maybe) although I think that The Masters (tm) cleaner from the U.S. is meant to be better, just run the tub of The Masters under the cold water tap and gently rub the side of the brush that should do the trick.
