@9:25 The long straight body of water on the left is Dorney rowing lake. Hosted the 2012 London Olympics rowing. At the end of it, that grass open areas with white lines, is Windsor Racecourse. About 10:15 just before video changes to long zoom, you can just about see Windsor Castle 🏰

I would love to understand what 'inputs' are causing the pilot to apply such rapid movements to the controls. What is he reacting to? And how quickly do the control surfaces respond?

He is slightly left of the centreline as it’s an RNP approach so he is having to correct for this by moving the aircraft right fairly quickly and deal with the changing wind speeds

At lower speeds (aka during landing), your plane won't react as much to inputs so you have to do more exaggerated inputs. Also factor in wind; this video looks normal to me.

@@_chipchip as a former pilot, not really lol. It takes time for the momentum of the plane to shift and change its direction from the time you input the controls. It's def noticeable lag. You're right, the surface moves with no lag, but the plane takes time to react to the movement

@@IAmNotARobotPinkySwear the guy was over correcting big time. Nothing normal about it. It’s poor airmanship and some pilots do this. I’ve actually recorded first officers who do this to show them afterwards what they are doing.

auto pilot off at about 200 feet. This captain passed up hand flying from final approach fix . Too bad for him..

Unfortunately a lot of airlines SOP's mandate that pilots keep the F/D and AP on until a certain point during landing. I don't agree with it cuz it takes the fun out of flying, but I'm not in charge of multi billion dollar airlines I guess lol

@@IAmNotARobotPinkySwear The pilot switched the F/D off after disconnecting A/P because this is an RNP approach, not ILS. ILS can give you precise guidance until touchdown while RNP only until minimums (even slightly to the left of centerline here). Most probably they would keep F/D on if it was an ILS approach anyway.

@@xentroide Missed that, good to know. Reminded me of when I was younger. I did not much like VOR approaches, but RNAV's were doable (I'm aware they're pretty much the same thing). I really need to get back into aviation, I miss it so much =(

It can if in selected mode and the pilot tells the autothrust what speed to set instead of managed then it would stop at S speed

@@markjackson5333 I know. But the speed triangle is blue meaning selected speed. Selected speed overrides managed speed until you ask the speed to drop below VLS then it won’t if on autothrust

@@tomstravels520 7.20 you can see they are flying below s speed and not have flaps 2 . When you should have flaps 2 out before you fly as this speed

@@markjackson5333 I know that. But you said “didn’t know the plane could do that”. I’m telling you how it is possible. Whether they should be doing it or not I don’t know. The only reason would be that flaps 2 setting increases drag and would cause thrust to increase and increase noise. Heathrow has strict noise abatement rules so it’s likely because ATC told them to fly just below the S speed but they don’t want to unnecessarily increase thrust.

That approach did not look stabilised and took a lot of manoeuvring prior to touchdown. Why did they choose to do an approach that wasn’t the ILS 09R? Looks like they didn’t do a precision approach on purpose, was that just to practice, or for another reason? Seems strange to practice an approach but not to hand fly it until 200’. Perhaps someone can help explain.

@@cedarkey oh it was an ILS approach was it? So how come at 7:55 he said cleared for RNP09L? How come there are no pink diamonds in the PFD? How come it says RNAV09L on the ND? How come it says FINAL APP on the FMA?

Perfectly stabilised approach. They were cleared for a non precision approach to 09L, and they hand flew from minimums.

i think before you comment about a professional pilots approach, you should know what you’re talking about. there was strong, gusty crosswinds in this video, and the pilot has to counteract those in order to land safely. if he “took his hand off the stick”, he would drift away from the runway in the wind, and believe it or not, you not allowed to land on the taxiway 😜

Agreed. Poor handling by the Captain. The surface wind was 070 at 9 knots. A gentle breeze. Over-controlling.

CRAP AIR - worst Canadian Airline by far. Long history of ripping passengers off, ling baggage. You should make it the airline of last resort. Famous for the Gimli Glider; trying to and on taxiway in San Francisco; crashing at Fredericton; 777-300ER Crash at Miami Beach; irst officergóe crazy on
