Landing allowed weight check ?
@hieristderkanalvomyoutuber5387
@Hansi689
@Hansi689 5 лет назад
@hieristderkanalvomyoutuber5387
For those who want to try their hand in one of these simulators, Delta has one at their museum in Atlanta, that you can "fly" for $400 for an hour. I believe its actually an old 737-200 simulator, which they kept when they got rid of their 737-200s..

falconeaterf15 It happens. I know someone who got a jump-seat on a busy flight and on landing the brakes or thrust reversers failed and the co-pilot freaked-out as he thought they were going off the end of the runway. They stopped with about 150m to spare (might actually have been on the over-run) but I think they had to evacuate the aircraft. Even pilots are mortal.

Hydraulics failure doesn’t matter on this plane. It has Electro-Hydrostatic Actuators on some of the flight controls so even with loss of hydraulics in the main lines it would still be controllable. The RAT would take over some of the electrical power, the landing gear would be released by gravity drop and its daytime and there a standby back up instruments too

If the airbus looses all power theoretically, can a pilot still use the controls to operate it? Where would the plane get the power to send those electrical inputs to the control surfaces? APU?
@AviationHubOfficial
@AviationHubOfficial 4 года назад
There is an electrically driven backup pump for the hydraulic system, partly powered by the RAT (a turbine that automatically deploys in case of engine failure) so yeah it can be controlled in case of a dual engine failure. But it won’t be as responsive.
@tomstravels520
@tomstravels520 4 года назад
If it lost all engines then the APU would restore electrical power with the batteries and the RAT filling in the gap whilst the APU started. Even if the APU failed the ram air turbine would restore one hydraulic system and provide enough electrical power. In worst case scenario the horizontal stabiliser is mechanically connected to the trim wheel and the rudder to the pedals so they can still pitch and turn. The A380 and A350 work slightly differently but that requires a pilot to explain as they don’t have trim wheels

I can guess that this A380 GW was somewhere near ZFW, surely not fuelled to fly to Australia. I don't know how long they needed to reach MLW. The other think is they sequence is from memory as I couldn't spot QRH

Errrrrrrrrr Why take the auto thrust off ? It is an Airbus ! It has 3 more engines. I would maybe use manual on an A330 single engine, manual flying, but 3 engines running.......
@tomstravels520
@tomstravels520 Год назад
Once AP is off the aircraft won’t trim rudder itself so has to be done pilot. If you know when the thrust changes are coming you can adjust rudder accordingly. If autothrust is on you only react to the changes after thrust has adjusted.

Guess they don't simulate dumping most of the fuel before landing attempt, or can the 380 land fully loaded?
@user-pz5iu1tc5l
@user-pz5iu1tc5l 6 лет назад
No airliner can safely land fully loaded mate. But the fuel tank was damaged so maybe the jettisons were too. It would be able to land but it would be dangerous.

airbus cant dump fuel i dont know how it is on the a380 but i think it also can not dump
@09shadowjet
@09shadowjet 5 лет назад
@@benni6901 Depends on which Airbus. The A320 families indeed can't dump fuel, so does its competitor, Boeing 737. However Airbus A340, A350 and A380 do have fuel dumping capabilities. Some A330 (depending on the order) also have jettison to dump fuel but it's optional to the customer.
@seth1987
@seth1987 5 лет назад
AviationHub 2 months ago They cheated. Pause at 4:23 , look at the right (or left) ND, the landing weight is that of the A380 MLW (391,000KG). So this theoretical flight wouldn't have made it across the atlantic anyway!
@aviation.london8302

Too low for fuel dumping. Especially over a highly populated area like Manhattan. It’s highly unlikely you will see any fuel dumping under FL100. Better to slightly damage the Airplane.

Naive question from a rank amateur aviation enthusiast: Why didn't they need to dump fuel? I've seen a slew of these and the return procedure to which I'm accustomed is to vector out over open water and dump a bunch of fuel before returning to the airport. When the avionics said, "Land ASAP," do we take that to mean that fuel-weight rating had already been ruled out as a potential problem, by the avionics -- or would they have said that anyway, risking an AOCP?
@ThiccAhriThighs
@ThiccAhriThighs 5 лет назад
You're not going to dump (flammable) fuel after an engine fire. You land overweight and risk the damage to the plane. Early on, you hear them read out "LAND ASAP (RED)"; according to some people I've talked to, the red color of the text basically means you're in deep shit, and should be considering landing at military bases, abandoned airfields,, on highways, bodies of water, etc if you need to.

is it not better to reduce the thrust lever to idle immediately, since fuel flow is a major factor during compressor stall/surge to avoid uncontrollable fire or complete lost of power?
@AviationHubOfficial
@AviationHubOfficial 6 лет назад
That's a really good question mate. And I don't know, but I'll give it a reasonable guess: I'd assume all fuel flow is cut-off to idle level on an engine failure/fire warning automatically, and it does seem to be the case: Pre-bird strike, pause@ 1:15 - look at the lower middle MFD/ECAM, the third green row is Fuel Flow (FF - KG/H), the number is illegible but visually identical to the other three on that row, as it should be. Engine failure registered at 1:26 , you can see immediately the FF has gone down to three digits already, consistent with idle power as if the levers were pulled instantaneously. So it makes no real difference what they do to the ENG1 lever at this point. Whether thats some automatic operation, or just because the engines have stopped! I don't know, but there has to be a logical explanation for the SOP. So the question should be, should the engine 1 MASTER be switched off immediately? Or manually disable the fuel pumps? and would that make a difference? We need an Airbus engineer in here. Also check the FF on ENG failure here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jzjyr0UZKRw.html I have over-thought this. Look what you made me do @Daddy Kush!
@petersilie7472
@petersilie7472 6 лет назад
You are probably right! This is what I thought, too. Maybe the FADEC reacts to the compressor stall/surge with an immediate fuel cut off automatically. I believe aircraft manufacturers are forward enough to implement such a system ;). Thanks for your detailed answer, @AviationHub!

No worries man, thanks for an insightful question that got me thinking about something I'd never considered before. Most of my inbox is a variation of "they just stick on autopilot and a computer does the rest" or "at 3 minutes the captain didn't... " *insert a procedure contained in no SOP/FCOM ever* ".... so it's refreshing ha :)
@wiedehopf9068

Shutting down the wrong engine is a major danger so engine shutdown procedures have quite a few steps. If you reduce the wrong engine to idle you should notice the loss of additional thrust or notice the mistake on the engine status page. Even more critical with twins. So no immediate actions because it increases the danger of this mistake.
@wiedehopf9068
@wiedehopf9068 6 лет назад
Fuel cut off would be no fuel. Automatic engine shutdown via FADEC is reserved for overspeed conditions only. This is to avoid losing thrust in critical situations (double birdstrike for example). What i would suspect is in this case that the engine slowed down due to the engine damage and the fuel injected depends on RPM even before FADEC. So the engine turning slower means less fuel is injected. This video is an example of a quite serious bird strike, as soon as the bird hits the EPR gauge goes down to 0 within a second or so.

@DeskPilot55
@DeskPilot55 Год назад
1. It's shut down, not shoot down. These are two different things in aviation. 2. What do you expect them to do? Act right when they see birds? Their action time was on point and they obeyed procedures by calling out the ECAM warnings, which you must do before taking any actions. You can't do anything on your own mind, you need to tell the other pilot what you're doing first.
