In this video we look at WHAT is FLEX temperature is and WHY is used for takeoff on the Airbus aircraft. We look at how a reduced power takeoff improves engine life and lowers operational costs and how the Tflex is limited in values. This is an EXCELLENT explanation on the theory behind the type of takeoff pilots on this aircraft performs every day!

It is a good question. We cover this is the full lesson on Reduced Power Takeoff. Because the Flex Temp takeoff procedure calculates the engine performance much closer to the 'operationally needed' thrust value (this gives the greatest savings), there is not a great deal of excess thrust in case it is needed. That tis why TOGA is always available but this will require the pilots to manually set TOGA and the engines to spool up. With a contaminated runway the lack of takeoff performance could be realised too late by the pilots and time be insufficient for TOGA, even after being applied. For a Derate takeoff the thrust is reduced by a certain percentage, established from an operational point of view (not pilot determined). This reduction has a much great margin to the 'operationally needed' thrust value. But because the TOGA detent is used on the trust levers to set Derated power, full power TOGA is not available and for that reason many operators choose not to imply it. I hope this helped.

Thank you for this excellent explanation on Flex Temp. I have a question that has been nagging me. It appears that Airbus now allows for a reduction of 40% of Max Thrust. From our company limitation section: TFLEX cannot be: ‐ Higher than TMAXFLEX, equal to ISA + 70 °C. Do you have any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance, Colin

Its great thx But i have two questions 1- as you say the TOW is the mainly factor for chosing fltex temp But if i used TOGA is there any difference to EGT if the aircraft is heavy or not ,because if i used TOGA engine will give me the full power that can be produced and limited to max ,so is there any relation to the weight in this case 2-when i use flex relating to determing temperature this mean that produced thrust is equal to the toga at this temperature Lets assume trust related to this degree as flex this will provide amount of thrust equal to the thrust producing when the actual temperature is 55 and i am using TOGA Is this true or not 😂😂😂❤

Hi Akeel, Great questions.. let me try and clarify. 1. Actual TOW is used to determine the flex temp value for the given takeoff yes. However if you choose to do a normal takeoff using TOGA power then the power generated by the engines is based on EGT limits and is not related to weight. Whether you are light or heavy, using TOGA will give you the same thrust. The takeoff performance of course will be greatly dependent on your weight but the amount of thrust produced is the same. When using TOGA the thrust generated is a function of the density outside. 2. You are correct. The "assumed" temperature used for flex represents the temperature where TOGA power would be available.

Thanks a lot for your feedback. We need this! While I have noticed the volume is a bit low, it seems to be an individual issue. We are however working on upgrading the clip(s) to reflect awesome sound without distorting the quality.

volume of your videos are always very low its difficult to hear
