Hello and welcome to Scale Stuff, in this weeks video I am going to be reviewing the Airfix 1:35 scale early tiger one kit number A1357.
The main reason I built this kit is because it comes with the markings in the box to build the legendary Tiger 131 that can be seen at Bovington tank museum.
This kit is a re box of the earlier Academy models Tiger one with interior, Only this airfix version of the kit lacks these additional details
In this video I take a look at the model kit, its history and some of the inaccuracies found on this model kit along with talking about how the model goes together and pointing out a few things to watch if you plan on building this model kit at home
Anyway as always I hope you found the video helpful if you are planning on building one of these kits at home, until next time though look after yourselves and have a good one

Dear Mr Stuff, I have been looking at Tiger tanks for a short while and your review is most helpful. Many thanks, Regards, Z

Thank you, Im glad the review has helped you out, the tamiya would be a better version of this model I think, especially if you want an early model as they are a fair bit cheaper and have less fit issues

Yeah there just beasts, I got to see the real 131 I was going to do the battle damage on this model bit couldn't bring myself to start melting holes in the kit

Again straight to the point video which is enjoyable to watch and take in..Got this kit and watching some other video’s about it I was put off..But seeing your excellent finished result I’m renewed to build her..Your paint finish on the camo and weathering really looks like the Bovington Tiger,which I visited in March.. You really deserve a lot more subscribers and I’m sure more will .!.Thanks again👍

Thanks mate glad you enjoyed the video, Its not the greatest kit but its certainly not worth slamming, If I recall right the airfilter pipes where the worst bit of it. And thank you I think that was around the time I went to see 131, tried to match the shades as best as I could, the pic of 131 in the video I took myself. (I loved going to bovington I wish I could have spent more time in there, I remember 6 hours went by like 30 mins!) Cheers mate hope you are having a good day

Just ordered this after debating between this and the similarly-priced Hobby Boss/Trumpeter's KV-1's. Definitely gonna paint it in the 131 scheme and save the figures for a future Tiger.

Best of luck with the build mate, just watch out for the pipes on the rear deck, You saying that I really need to make a KV1 at some point I have done the big KV2 but never build a KV1

@@scalestuff1066 The Tamiya ones were pretty fiddly to work with so I'm hoping it'll be better. Maybe I'll change my mind and get the KV-1... I mostly ordered the Tiger because it was on sale, but I am getting a bit of Tiger fatigue...

I love making tiger models, but I hate the wheels on the German big cats, its the one bit of the build im glad to see the back of, sometimes though a good sale kits good for the stash for when you get the mojo back, Did you get it in the airfix sale by anychance?

@@scalestuff1066 I'm in the US so it was on sale by chance. The Operation Citadel version was briefly on sale but I had no money at the time; I was planning on making that my next project. Worse comes to worse I might return the Airfix kit and get something else, but I do want at least one representation of 131 on my shelf.

Ah there is a factory seconds sale atm in the Uk so thought it was from that. Tbh though yeah got to have one 131 on the shelf, I saw it in the flesh last yeah and its a nice looking tank , I was going to add the battle damage to this one , but enjoyed making it and did not want to put holes in it

Now that I’ve watched your video going to my local model shop tomorrow and going to attempt to build the tiger tank first time I’ve built a model in 30 years . I’ve got my little workshop with tools and giant magnifying glass paints liquid cement ready for the challenge. Hopefully it shouldn’t take me more than two weeks.

@@scalestuff1066 ok thanks very much because I’m building the tiger tank I have to build the American Sherman tank as they will have to do battles lol . I’ve been meaning to start building AE models again now I’m 57. I’ve got much more patience but they’re not easy. I’m going to the Sandown Park toy fair in May there should be some good bargains not far from me as I’m in Bracknell Berkshire. Thx regards DSM

Ah I think you will find with some of the newer kits, they go together much better than some of the older ones, I like building the older kits now as there more of a challenge but with new kits I build them as a hoilday when I want something relaxing to make. But your right should deffo make a sherman to go with the tiger tank. Hope you find some good deals at the fair! Happy hunting

Yup that it was, was the the village bocade one or the winter one as I know he had a couple. But yeah the wheels look like a nightmare to change and fix, good as an extra armour layer thou I imagine

I actually don’t use an airbrush myself, and I’ve grown quite fond of the results you get with a normal brush. So I’d say no airbrush needed :) however, should I ever paint fighter jets I might reconsider

@scalestuff1066 2 месяца назад
@@snowmanschneemann5443 Yeah to be honest it has a certain charm to it seems more proper, I do find spray paints good enough, but I know what you mean about the fighter jets often they need that fine cover, the other thing you cant do with brushes is that german camo over spray dapple look, but I dont make enough to get the use from one

I used tamiya xf 60 for the base, xf 49 khaki for the camo blotches, and then a dry brush of army painter skelington bone to lighten it all down and tie it together as the khaki looks abit dark

Does it come with the famous gouge under the barrel mantlet as it's 131?...Easy enough to add that shell hole but I thought it might be a clever little detail by airfix if they popped it in there...;0}
@scalestuff1066
@scalestuff1066 7 месяцев назад
No sadly not I was going to add all the battle damage to this one but just went into auto pilot once it was built, but yeah would be an awesome detail if they did the damaged parts in the kit, the exhausts on the real one are quite torn up as well

@@scalestuff1066 What tips would you give on painting two-toned camo. For example, how are the edges of your colours so refined - is it one thick coat or multiple thinner ones?
@scalestuff1066
@scalestuff1066 Год назад
It depends on the paint, for tamiya ,I tend to use one heavy coat and work fast,for other paints I build up, I try and keep the paint a little wet,so it self levels,one rule for all though is work fast,dont correct only revisit an area once its dried,dont poke at paint after it's been drying for abit as it leaves brush marks
