I've always thought of the Fairey Gannet as an ugly duckling, but in your hands it's shaping up into a beautiful swan. This new Airfix kit certainly raises their standard of molding and fit. Thank you Steve. . . Merry Christmas.
Yet another of your very detailed and helpful build videos full of tips and information. The tip about using blutack when joining parts together is excellent. Thanks for sharing.
The Gannet is looking good and with the figures in it you get an idea of just how big the real aircraft is. Another of my subscriptions also built the kit but modified it to a mark 5 and he managed to put in 50 grams of weight into every available space and it stands on all three wheels so if I remember you have about the same amount in your models. Can't wait to see the next video.
Thank you I saw that build but I’m pretty sure Airfix will do that version in a later release given the parts in the kit. I’m sure the model will sit with the 70g in it 🤞🤞
I must admit it has very enjoyable seeing you click this beast of a bird together Steve! A very builder friendly build in comparison to some you’ve done in the past. That wing joint is outstanding! I have never built a Airfix model before, but I might give them a try after seeing the enthusiasm from you and others! Regarding the nose joint area, how would you deal with that gap/high area? I know modelers use glue now, surfacer etc.. Have a Merry Christmas to you and your family and congrats on 10,000 subs! I started watching you when you had about a 100 and knew you would climb up that sub ladder quickly!👍🏾
Thank you and a happy Christmas to you. It’s great to have your support all this time I really appreciate it. This is probably the best Airfix kit I’ve built for fit and finesse. I’ve I just used some Mr Surfacer to close those gaps wiped smooth with a cotton bud and leveling thinners. I’ve painted the airframes now and all the joins look good 👍
Lol, the ugly duckling is turning into a swan for me! It is a beautifully engineered kit, I am VERY impressed with Airfix's improvement! I'm not saying that their "older" kits are poor, this is just a VAST improvement! I just might have to get myself one of these!! I don't know if they flew together, but it would display nicely beside Airfix's Seafire Mk. 47, and Hawker Sea Fury! As usual, awesome work, and I am eagerly awaiting the next update!!
The builds ard looking very good, it certainly is a strange looking bird, looking forward to the painting episode, bedt regards from a Kiwi living in Australia
All credit to Airfix for the improvement in quality of their kits over the past couple of years. Looks a bit like they have a two track strategy for aircraft with 1/72 being the beginner/easy option and 1/48 being more of an expert/detailed set.
Yes Phil I was a bit disappointed that they released their Hornisse in 1/72 I’d have had one of those in 1/48 for sure. This one is a cracker though I’m really enjoying the build.
Looks very well-engineered and detailed for airfix, more like an eduard kit with the dark plastic too… just can’t get over the looks of the Gannet though. Hopefully they come out with some equally well-engineered but prettier airframes soon! 😂
Thanks Will I like it for its quirks though. Like you I hope they carry on with this standard - just a couple more refinements and they’ll be rivalling Tamiya for fit and finesse.
maybe i am too late but those little tabs in the wheelbay opening are really just there to hold the doors in the correct position if you build it with the gear up
Always struck me how much the Gannet resembled the Curtis SB2C Hellldiver, just scaled up a bit. The proportions of the control surfaces are very similar, too.
