Awrsome build there, well done. I have built MPM's 1/72 offering and enjoyed it but boy this 1/48 has a different league of detail! I found a grey wash on the main external panel lines really made it come alive 👍

Great video Gary. And a great one to discover your channel on. Instant subscribe. Okay - trivia dump: BTW it's pronounced "GEE-long" Flyer - the first syllable is pronounced as a "G" like "Gee-Whizz". Geelong is a satelite city of Melbourne. A77-854, the second scheme in the kit's first pilot was Sqn Leader Don Hillier of Adelaide over Jan-Mar (who was lost on ops flying A77-343 on 8 Mar 53). The aircraft was renamed by pilot Sgt J McCarthy (presumably from Geelong) for the final three months of combat missions until the end of Jul 1953 as “The GEELONG FLYER”. The Geelong Flyer was the first officially named train operated by Victorian Railways from 1926, providing a high-speed one-hour service between Melbourne and Geelong, at 115km/hr. This provided some good nose art. A77-854 returned to Australia aboard HMAS Vengeance in Nov 1954. Back in Australia in 1954, A77-854 was inducted by 2AD and re-issued to 77 Sqn and named “Hot to Trot” for the “Operation Welcome Home” formations over capital cities in Jan-Feb 1955. The airframe was sold to RH Grant Trading Co 19/05/58 and scrapped. Luckier than some of it's squadron stablemates that wound-up rotting in the desert outside Maralinga South Australia as static aircraft test beds for British Govt nuclear tests in the 1950's.

BTW - I'd purchase this kit thu your link but already own it in my stash - sorry mate. Maybe next time - I'm an Aussie living in Canada and Airfix don't direct deliver here from the UK nor from their US branch I discovered, much to my chagrin.
@garys_stuff
@garys_stuff 2 года назад
Hi Simon, no worries. Apologies to you for my ignorance and lack of Googling to see how the town and train is pronounced. As I have mentioned to your countrymen, at least I didn't try the Paul Hogan accent. Rubbish that Airifx don't deliver there. Don't understand that one. Hope you enjoy the other videos!!!
@Coatsieboy1
@Coatsieboy1 2 года назад
@@garys_stuff Ha ha ha - No worries Gary, we Aussies tend to laugh off the bad imitation accents, and the Seppo ones are generally terrible by comparison to the the Pommy ones so never feel like it's a PC issue for us. I love how they call everyone in the UK "British" because they can't tell Cardiff from Aberdeen from Manchester from East London, but can pick a Philidelphia one over a Baltimore one and a South Boston from Vermont inflection. But we certainly don't care - all part of our colonial prison origins lending us zero airs and graces 🤣. Plus, we are generally punching it down on the Kiwis doing the same accent pisstaking for no good reason other than being schoolyard bullies so we can't talk. And we don't all speak like Steve Irwin contrary to popular belief. I really enjoyed your video, it gave me a ton of tips and heads-ups for when I pull it down onto the bench myself. Far too many fiddly unfinished ones ahead of it on the runway, taxiway, apron and hanger before I get there I'm afraid. Cheers mate. Keep up the good work.

Geelong is pronounced "je-long", its a major regional city about an hour south west of Melbourne. The F8 meteor flown Halestorms scheme is at the Temora Aviation museum, i believe the forward fuselage of the actual jet George Hale shot the Mig down in exists in a museum in South Australia as well. Temora also have a CAC27 Sabre in flying condition. Quite a sight when they are together.

Interestingly the May 1941 flight was the official test flight. The aircraft had flown the previous month as part of the preliminary test flights to establish takeoff speed and airborne stability.
@garys_stuff
@garys_stuff 2 года назад
I wonder at which point a 'hop' becomes a 'test flight'! Something requiring a circuit, perhaps?
@mattheweagles5123
@mattheweagles5123 2 года назад
@@garys_stuff I was told that the May flight was designated as a test flight, so got the official title. The April "flight" was designated as a handling test so despite the aircraft being airborne for a few hundred metres it didn't count. That was from Ian Whittle, so it's probably true.

Scheme 2: Gee-long. As in gee-wiz. But us Aussie’s pronounce it more like jalong. It’s 80km SW of Melbourne Victoria. The Geelong Flyer is the train between the two. Nice build…It just happens to be my last one, too.

@@garys_stuff Yes, he was well liked. A huge talent. We lost our greatest wicket keeper yesterday, too. Rod Marsh. A heart attack, too. As it happens, I built my Meteor as the Geelong Flyer. It’s sitting in the display cabinet at RAAF 77 squadron, where I’m currently posted. It’s pilot was SGT John McCarthy, from Geelong, of course. I’ve just found this, and I’ve subscribed.

Lovely natural metal finish. Did you thin the Vallejo metal colour at all? I was struggling recently to get it down smoothly - perhaps my needle & nozzle were too fine. Nice trick with the interior wear effects too - much easier than messing around with hairspray chipping!
@garys_stuff
@garys_stuff 2 года назад
No I didn't thin the metal color - I think it's a 0.5mm nozzle and needle and around 2 bar. Seems to flow really well. Likewise the plain aluminium model air. The model air black I just added a couple of drops of thinner.

The nose isn't heavy enough, so the model will sit on its tail and not on the nose wheel! On the real plane there was all kinds of heavy stuff at the front like guns and ammunition, electronics sets and so on.
