The RM8, once again, proving why it’s a favourite in the field. A great tool to work with. And a great class on why accurate shots need an accurate shooter. 👏👏👏
I've had some reasonable results with other baits, but peanuts seem to keep them coming even when there are good wild crops of beech mast and acorns available. Thanks for watching. Mat
I know it’s been said numerous times over the years by you and others Matt, but I was surprised how much your face stood out behind the camouflage netting!!. Never thought it would be so bad in the gloomy forest and behind the netting. Thanks for all your videos guys keep up the good work 👍
It's a good point, which is why I often wear a head net when hide shooting. Thankfully, squirrels aren't usually too bothered when they are distracted by an easy meal. All the best. Mat
I think it's crazy squirrels go for peanuts over corn. Here in the Midwest US, squirrels will hide in cornfields, stuffing their faces with corn. The pistol is really nice for the price.
nice shooting again mat with the squirrels. my misses and daughter is picking this rifle up a week on friday ready for my birthday. looking forward for it
From watching trail cam footage i noticed a lot of nuts were being eaten by birds visiting the feeders. Put a hinged lid on the feeder. Squirrels soon work out how to open it, but birds can't operate it. Saves a lot of nuts.
That's a good tip. It happens a lot, Guy. I often leave it as the bird activity attracts squirrels but some of my feeders have removable lids - the one on the left in this video does - and I do use it if it starts getting expensive. All the best. Mat
I've noticed many times when people build feeders they put metal back stop on but never put one behind spinner target. if you miss the spinner pellets go into tree. not good. I know everyone will say their guns are zeroed but you never know. Just an observation so don't hang me.
I tried cheaper alternatives to peanuts such as maize on its own or wheat on its own and hopeless in comparison a waste of money. I even tried mixing wheat with peanuts and that was a big mistake. All the Squirrels did was scoop out the wheat to get at the peanuts to the delight of the Pheasants. I decided as you mentioned, to just pay for the peanuts!
Matt, here in the states I find the same results.. my feeder has in the shell unsalted peanuts and corn and sunflowers... they clean out every peanut before anything else is touched ..
Hi Alan. I have tried mixing feed but the squirrels on my ground usually kick it all out on to the ground so they can get straight to the peanuts. Thanks for watching. Mat
I use a Walther Dominator 1250. The downside to this is that the rubber O-rings that hold the pellets in place with the magazines go bad quickly. It is certainly inexpensive for a pre-charged air gun from other guns in Japan, but I decided to replace it with an FX because the mags go bad so quickly. The shortcomings of the magazines have not been improved with the RM8.
Might of been a better bait test to have the feeders separated at different locations rather than together as peanuts are always going to be preferred where as if only one option on the menu it would be good to see which feeder empties first and how fast .
I tried this and they never went near the non-peanut feed. Swapped the locations of the feeders around and they still only went for the peanuts. I only ever use peanuts now and occasionally a bit of peanut butter or cheap nutella.
Great video Mat,and really good kit for the money.I’ve tried everything in my feeders, but they don’t go for anything other than peanuts.A clear winner imo.Wouldn’t use anything else tbh. Atvb👍🏻👍🏻
Absolutely nothing wrong with the Ritcher scopes at all I have a 3-9x50 mounted on my weihrauch hw95 k and I've had the scope for years and for the money I believe you can't go wrong and has a great twin colour illumination, red and green and it's never failed me once. Hey there are much better scopes out there but for a budget set up you can't go wrong at all with a Ritcher in my opinion.
What a superb video Matt 👍 Very interested that you’ve used the Walther Rotex RM8 for some time, that says a lot for this model. Is there any chance you might be able to review the Umarex Walther Reign M2 in the near future ? Having waded through all the past videos I can’t see one here. Am sure I’m not the only person to appreciate your views on this model and would personally find it enlightening before buying one to add to my Ultra CLX .22 which I’m a bit ‘kid gloves’ with due to its wooden stock. Many thanks 😁
The Grey Reaper RU-vid channel………. I’ve been using whole maize and sunflower seeds to good success but lately the greys on one of my perms have been kicking out the maize so I’ve swapped it to all sunflower seeds and last time I looked all the husks were empty and it’s lasting longer in the feeder till I need to refill. I’ve tried wheat before on a new feeder but it got totally ignored. When I’ve tried only Peanuts as I wouldn’t mix anything in with it I’ve seen them go off before which is very strange.
Yes, I always have problems with squirrels kicking everything out in order to access whatever they want most whenever feed is mixed. Thanks for watching. Mat
Hi Matt, been watching you for quite a while now, can I ask a genuine question mate? I notice you cock the Rifle almost immediately after a dispatch shot. What is the most time you’d recommend sitting with these modern PCP’s cocked waiting for the next squirrel please? I get it. Not have to make a noise before another comes in. I had a Rotex UC for a while, great kit. 👍👍
