So Rick after revisiting the reviews and information on Ted's (Bier) Holdover on his FX Wildcat Mk III .22 caliber. He found the best accuracy for pesting with the FX Wildcat is at 930 FPS with the Hades pellets and is using if from 10 - 90 yards! In windy conditions from 70 -100+ yards he is using Javelin 23g slugs at 1000 FPS, just under the sound barrier. The Hades pellet is based on the JSB 18.13 domes. The 850 FPS was with his FX Impact in .25 caliber. My mistake with my memory. I hope this helps.

I bet those groups would stay a little tighter with a barrel band on it.

@@derrickmitchell39dm Good observation. It depends on that barrel and shroud rigidity? BRK and others don't use barrel bands.

@gmanneod8085 I'm guessing they don't have to because of the quality of the barrel. I just put a TJ barrel on my fx impact .357 and added the fx barrel tensioning kit and swan barrel harmonic tuner. Now it's consistent, now no point of impact shifts.

I just put a longer air tube on my Wildcat .30 with a huma plenum on it. My mk3 started out as a compact, but I want to go long-range, so I had to make some substantial changes to it. In my opinion, the simplicity of the Wildcat and the Maverick is what makes it a better gun for beginners and novice airgun shooters. I do enjoy shooting mine for those reasons.

BTW- the extreme spread for the first group was no doubt due to you shooting right after a fresh fill on the air reservoir. That is not uncommon. Just remember to take a single shot after a fresh fill before you hunt or shoot for groups.

That mid 800 fps rule may have been accurate years ago, but not anymore. My air rifles, both AA and FX will all shoot tiny little clusters at 50 yards with pellets going will over 900 and even over 1000 fps. It isn't the speed that matters. It is the barrel liner in an FX rifle. Get the right twist rate and they shoot pellets at very high speeds with extreme precision. Both my Dreamline 25 and my Impact MK II 30 are proof of that and will stack (and I do mean stack) pellets at 75 yards and beyond at speeds of between 940 and 980.

That was unexpected. I wS told the pellets like to go 860 to 900 and anything beyond would destabilize them.

Rick, I shoot the H&N Barracuda Match 21.14 5.52 @910-920fps in my compact Maverick with the superior liner, sub MOA. I wonder how they would do in your 700mm Wildcat Sniper?

If the gun is cocked and you will damage it by flipping the power wheel, it needs to have a modification to prevent you from doing so. I bet you every air gunner who owns one has done this at least once. It’s very easy to forget.

When you adjust the HS you need to fire three or four shots to let things settle. That is “not very consistent” you are seeing.

I’m one to never give up. However you will never shoot SUB moa at 100 yards 7 out of 10 times. And by you I mean no one. Question for you. Your goal is always stated as sub moa. As if moa wouldn’t do. Why? Not trying to discourage anyone my goal is to shoot moa every single time without missing at any distance up to 180 yards. I’ll never quit trying. Past 100 yards, Fx air guns shoot 2” groups. I own one.

Hey there William. The SUB MOA standard is one set by other shooters. My personal standard for airguns is 2 MOA, I.e. 2” at 100 yards. You are correct about 7 out of 10 SUB MOA. While I’d love to have the gear and skill to shoot that accurately, I have not experience it or witnessed it. Part of the process for me is to help set reasonable expectations and call out that one SUB MOA group does not a SUB MOA rifle make. Maybe one day and I’ll keep shooting for it, but I have not found it yet. Cheers AGW
