Airlie Beach is based in the beautiful Whitsunday Island region on the Great Barrier Reef.
This 4K walking tour occurred on a rainy Christmas morning, and whilst the skies were grey and the streets wet with rain, you can still see how nice the village of Airlie Beach is.
It's a tourist town with many shops, cafes, bars and restaurants along the main road, park areas, a lagoon, the small beach and views over the water.
Being summer in Australia, the further north you travel the more likely you are to encounter heavy rain. Also, the region is prone to cyclones during the wet season.
The population of the town is a little over 1,000 but swells with tourists during peak seasons.
The Ngaro are an Australian Aboriginal group of people who traditionally inhabited the Whitsunday Islands and coastal regions of Queensland, employing a seafaring lifestyle in an area that archaeologically shows evidence of human habitation since 9000 BC. Walk 4K Today acknowledges the Ngaro People and thanks them for allowing this 4K walking tour.
