As a Canadian this seems strange to me. Americans have the right to be armed in their own home (whether we agree or not), so it stands to reason that police must sometimes tolerate homeowners holding guns. So how can the homeowner be blamed for this?
@jamesdevine3050 truth. still. what cop doesn't knock and announce even if clear of the frontal region of the door. That is why you stand away, but announce who you are. It honestly is a process that keeps cops safer too, but who knows what "policy" is here. Sad, and incompetent.

And maybe the last time, the person yelled they were sheriff's office just to get him to open the door. Otherwise, why didn't he announce it from the beginning. That is why the airman brought a gun to the door (possible home invasion). Besides, he is allowed to have a gun in his home. He never raised it towards the officer. There was no reason to shoot him. Ok so here are the facts. He’s in Florida. A stand your ground state. The guy had the right to answer his door with a gun because he didn’t know what was going on and the officer didn’t announce who he was on the first knock. I understand what you said. However, only when you have the luxury of time to give orders and cover yourself. I can understand why the cop chose to shoot immediately. I am not saying he did it right, or wrong though. It was a very close range. Can you tell me how much time it needs to take to raise a pistol from your hand to shoot? Are you sure the man would not raise his gun to shoot you, if you were the cop? Or, you will not shoot until he has raised his gun and shot you? The cop probably did not have his pistol in his hand when the man was opening the door. And, according to the video, I am inclined to believe the man immediately extended his left hand to show to the cop he was not a threat when he saw the cop pulling his gun out of his holster. Very unfortunately, the cop did not want to take a chance and he chose to shoot first to protect himself. It was a very bad situation. Yes, it looks very bad. I doubt if this is true at all, I don't think the police have to tell u to drop the gun before they can shoot. These situations happen in seconds. I'm not taking up for the officer but domestic violence calls are the most violent incidents for police officers. So when he sees someone open the door with a gun he thinks that person is trying to kill him. The officer doesn't know that the guy is a airmen and just came to the door with a gun because he didn't know who was there. Most people don't answer doors with a gun in their hand

I have no idea of either were. Or if he was yelling on FaceTime. But the cop (also black)literally has to go to the apartment after a potential domestic dispute is called in.
You're using hindsight! You can't do that!! The officer did not have the benefit of hindsight!!! He was called to a domestic dispute (whether or not that was the case - that is what he was told!). These calls are the most dangerous officers face! He could hear the guy talking to someone (although in hindsight, he was on a FaceTime call). So with the info that the officer had - he thought someone was in there with him, and that they were in danger. The officer was brave - he should have waited for back-up to arrive, but he wanted to help the apparent victim. The caller didn't even know which apartment she heard the argument from. She just sent the cop to this Airman's apartment on a guess. FYI, since the whole video isn't shown here: the young man did *not* raise the gun and point it at the deputy. He never had the time. The deputy *immediately* drew his own gun and *immediately* fired off a barrage of bullets. The deputy gave no warning. He didn't draw his gun and demand the resident drop his gun. He just saw a gun and decided he had to shoot. No more than two seconds elapsed, literally, between the door opening and this young man being shot in the chest.
