Airplane Graveyard Victorville
Check-out our facebook page: Facebook.com/eddhspotter
This video is about the airplane graveyard in Victorville. On the one hand it is intresting to see all those old aircraft standing there, on the other it's a sad sight to see them being scrapped. Enjoy views from outside the area and from above, as this video includes a scenic flight from Apple Valley to Victorville on board a Cessna 172N Skyhawk (N737EC). Thanks to the pilot who did a great job.
This video features some of the highlights at Victorville Southern California Logistics Airport (VCV/KVCV), such as the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital DC-10-10, or the Omega Air Tanker 707.
Thanks for watching our 100th video! Thanks for so far more than 400 subscribers! Stay tuned!

Better than 90% of those planes are moth-balled, still maintained and flight ready within hours. Very few are scrap. I worked there.

I spent a few years working out there. A lot of these planes are sold and disassembled and parts are refurbished. We would then sell the parts on exchange or outright to operators. Great operation at SoCal.

Nice video. It's kind of eerie seeing all those beautiful planes just sitting there, gutted. Wonder if they move much in those strong desert winds? Your video brought back a lot of good memories; used to overfly the area enroute to Phoenix, and usually stopped for fuel and lunch at APV (in a C-172 also) Back in the 80's, Mojave used to be like that--you could "explore" the boneyard pretty easily, and it was a very unique experience standing next to an airframe and hearing the wind whistle through it... Anyway, very nicely done.

@lillydoye7418
@lillydoye7418 6 лет назад
$10000 is probably still a bit low, and transporting it to somewhere useful is going to add a lot to the cost. This site puts the figure at $100000 but from what I have read you might want to spend a little more and keep some extra parts. telstarlogistics.typepad.com/telstarlogistics/2007/09/do-you-want-to-.html If you want more information on the aircraft buying process airplanehome.com has decent amount of information from someone who purchased a 727 and converted it into a house.

What I always wonder about, in these airliner graveyards, is what state the interiors are in. In pristine examples I imagine seatbacks and tray tables "in full upright position", safety cards and inflight magazines in each seat pocket, galleys stocked with peanut snacks and nips of liquor. I am sure I would be shocked by the reality. My big impulse is always to find a way to get inside, to look.

People need to understand that air frames have an EOL (end of life). From the first take off and cabin pressurization the clock starts. Even know these aircraft look like they can roll onto a runway and take off that not the case. They are parted and recycled and that's just part of it. They have a lot of value as parts that keep other planes flying.
@EDDHspotter
@EDDHspotter 7 лет назад
That's true, indeed. But today, you can extend the life time of aircraft with some good maintenance. Yeah some of the aircraft serve as spare part storages for others when they are not build anymore.

Correct about EOL. DC3 aircraft are still flying after 80 years only because they were not pressurized and of course they were one great aircraft designed and built by Douglas.
@JohnSampson

I think we know all about the reasons why, but what I'm saying is, why could they not have been made to last longer. Recycling is great, but they just don't last long enough, they were not designed to..

The DC-10's of FedEx are very, very old second hand aircraft, some of which are 40+ years old now. The Airbus fleet is just mostly old second hand aircraft. The funny thing is that most of the 757's that FedEx has been buying are not spring chickens, either. They have quite a few 20+ year old 757 airframes. The MD-11's seem quite young compared to the rest of the fleet, sans the 767 and 777.

MANY of these planes are NOT scrapped - but sold to other airlines, or people for other purposess, and not just these but hundreds of others at Mojave, CA and in multiple "boneyards". RIP 747 this show us that 747 has come to its end and it will be soon followed by A380s 4 engine airplanes are just not a thing any more
@EDDHspotter
@EDDHspotter 7 лет назад
Yeah that's true. They are not as economic when it comes to fuel consumption per pax as e.g. a 777.

I would argue that both have their own place still. For some routes the sheer capacity of an a380 or 747-8 can make them worthwhile, and while (thankfully) for passenger service the 747-400 is rapidly being phased out, as a cargo carrier they are still very much viable, especially with a lower initial purchase cost. Both will still be around for quite some time, although more modern twins will almost certainly take over later.

I guess, airline wise, 2 engines are better than 3 or 4. RIP 747 you will be missed. 😔

Michael Schoeman yes, but that was due to a lease ending. SA is still very much an A380 operator and will be for some time.

I see that there was a Air New Zealand Boeing 747-400 ,could it be ZK-SUH the last 747 to fly with ANZ from what I understand after its last passenger flight to LAX it was flown to Victorville Airport to be scraped, was Victorville Airport once a U.S.A.F Base called George Airbase. I enjoyed video sad though think that all those airliners are to be scraped.

Nigel Branthwaite, as others have posted more recently yes SCLA is the former George AFB. Since closure in 1992 it has been used for several different missions including Firefighting using a DC-10. Plus I believe the military still uses it to fly in Army troops going to Ft. Irwin for desert training. Something they used to do at my base on the other side of the mountains. The USAF closed that base, Norton AFB in 1994. For me it is sad to see what happened to these bases, but at least they found use for the valuable infrastructure including the runways.

Surprised to see DC-10’s there to me they are a great plane only issue was early on with the cargo doors.

I saw some former US Airways B767-200 on your video. I wish I could tell their tail numbers. I worked on some of them as a mechanic in Philadelphia. We only had 9 in the fleet.

FedEx's headquarters is there. I'd just put new tires, new paint and some TLC and get all these beautiful birds back in the air. Fly them at slower speeds and altitude to get another 20 years out of them. Planes from1945 still fly at some air shows!

I wonder how much these planes would cost. A lot of these planes can probably still operate. If they are just gonna sit their and not get scrapped, they should let people buy them. I would buy one.
@deannelson9565
@deannelson9565 5 лет назад
They are being scrapped if you watch the video you can see most of her missing parts eventually take them off chop them up into little pieces and melt them down. Plus some of the aircraft at this airport or actually brand new then are just getting painted and or engine testing.
