Apple could just easily fix this with a firmware update, adding sleep mode timer when headphone is idle. That is if they are willing to listen to their customers.
TBH this is 2024 June and this is a great video. Got mine refurbished from Best Buy for $349 perfected condition, 8 month apple warranty....got a stand with magnets to shut off...but I have another stand without magnets. I will just cut that ugly case and put the magnets on the stand. I have a case with sleep magnets too. Thanks for the analysis.
Solid video! Was wondering what about the case actually flipped the low power mode switch. Hopefully third-party casemakers can implement the same thing in a non-crappy case haha
Should be really easy. If you lay the AirPods Max flat, the magnetically-triggered parts of the ear cups come so close that it should be easy to make an efficient magnetized case that minimizes the number of magnets needed. I still maintain they need an off switch or a shorter auto-off time. It shouldn’t be necessary to use an external accessory to shave off two hours of idle time before it goes to sleep.
Does the strength of the magnets affect the AirPods max? I made my own magnet hack using some fairly strong magnets. Recently I noticed I’ve been having extremely wonky connection issues. Might not be related but… perhaps? Anyone have thoughts?
3rd party manufacturers should make discrete adhesive power buttons with magnets that stick-on the headphones. Once applied you would slide the magnet buttons to either on/off positions.
If you are looking to wake up your AirPods Max you can put your iPhone back (which has magnets for wireless charging) to the AirPods Max control right side. touch it and wait and it will wake up. If it does not wake up then press the volume down and put the iPhone against the AirPods. It will wake up 300%. Fake AirPods Max will need this since they go to sleep mode too often.
@@EmergentTechnology noticeably better? If so I might have to get a Bluetooth expansion card...I’ll probably stick to plugging them in though since I play games on that machine.
@@progenitor_amborella I don’t think there’s honestly much difference between wired and wireless. I got the $35 lightning to 1/8” cable today and tried both (wired to a good USB DAC and Bluetooth). It’s slightly better wired but only on lossless FLAC files.
@@EmergentTechnology I'm hearing other reviewers saying there's latency in editing with the hardwire. Any chance you'd do an in depth review? Dreading $35 for Lightening to audio cable. Every accessory makes the likelihood of returning the APMax... lastly have you stretched yours? feel like in a vice.
I can't get to make ir work! What am I doing wrong? I'm using standard fridge magnets, should I get stronger ones? I appreciate any help any of you guys reading this can give me. Thanks a lot
No idea what you're doing differently, to be honest. What are you trying to do? Hang them up? Build a case? I am selling a 3D printed hanger that uses magnets to sleep them: bit.ly/AirHanger
Thanks for your research. I just ordered a generic headphone case from Amazon for $10 and will add magnets in the appropriate location to put AirPods Max to sleep. An off switch makes more sense. Can’t believe Apple didn’t use a conventional case design for these that offer more protection than their bra design. It not only looks stupid and doesn’t offer the needed protection for such an expensive headphone. Some people theorize that the reason for the design is so you have to show headphones off when you carry them. BTW, received my AirPods Max today and they are awesome. I own Bose QC35II, and have tried Bose 700’s, plus the Sony MX4’s. These are definitely keepers and I love the spatial audio and overall sound and design. Cost makes me queasy, but maybe in time it’ll make sense.
My headphones are the AirPods Max, AKG K271s (which I've had for 16 years); the Sony XM3's, the Shure se315 IEMS, Koss Porta Pro, AirPods 2nd gen, and AirPods Pro. The AirPods Max have by far the must entertaining sound. They're perfect in so many ways, sound-wise. The AKGs are the most accurate and neutral, which has its place, but doesn't offer much punch. I am lucky enough to be able to so easily forgive the quirks of the AirPods Max... they just sound so good to want to give up on because of some certain quirks. That being said, I can't wait until some 3rd party manufacturer comes out with softer earcups for the AirPods Max. What was Apple thinking? It feels like sandpaper. My $80 gaming headset has softer earpads.
@@rayirth.upside-down Your experience and personal preferences may be different than mine. I don’t care for the material but others call it soft. I’ve owned enough headphones to say that I personally don’t care for the meshy material they used.
Hey! My airpods max has suddenly stopped working idk what the issue is never seen in this whole internet that someone really broke these but i guess here we are! Can u help me find a solution? The problem is! It won’t connect with any devices and when i try charging they just keep popping the orange light and when i try to pair them, they just pop that white light for a second and again the orange one comes up! Please help me with it! I’ve tried every solution told by the officials but it wouldn’t work!

I bought a solid case online which doesn't has sleep/wake function. I tried magnets on many places but couldn't figure out how it works. So I'm trying this, will update 👍👍👍
"If you set your AirPods Max down and leave them stationary for 5 minutes, they go into a low power mode to preserve battery charge. After 72 stationary hours out of the Smart Case, your AirPods Max go into a lower power mode that turns off Bluetooth and Find My to preserve battery charge further. "
Now we know that. I wonder, if at all, whether this video contributed to Apple's unusually public response to the battery question around AirPods Max. I know a number of prominent sites picked up this video in the last day.
A friend told me he can view my video, however when I try to view it I get a message that “something went wrong “ The title is “AirPods Max storage case with magnets” please let me know if you can view it. Thanks
How in Gods name do you release a $550 ($600 + with tax) headphones and can't put a damn small off/on button on these? I get AirPods..., you put them in a case and thats that. I do this to obviously recharge them, but also NOT lose them. My larger over the ears Sony's, eh...not the best sound but not the worse. That has an on/off button, no bra case or ANY case needed. Comment below, I agree. A firmware can fix this, will Apple do that? Who knows.
Agreed. Hopefully Apple does that. Honestly, I’m not impressed with the AirPods Max in terms of sound, either. My XM3s seem to do a better job with ANR and may even sound better with music - but it warrants some more testing.
Clearly, Apple doesn’t want people to completely power down their headphones because they would lose the ability to use the Find My app to locate them. I have already used this once to find them.
