Airsoft Is Not Welcomed On Instagram

Instagram has been one of my more favorable social medias but over the years, it has gotten more and more challenging to just exist on but now I'm at the point of existing without being discoverable.
I still post on Instagram about all things airsoft but to a smaller and smaller audience as Instagram cracks down on any attempts to break into recommendations but it's not just me.
Most airsofters, and even some paintball accounts are not able to be recommended, are not allowed to show up in hashtags, or even be searched for unless you type in every last letter in our account names.
Even with over 7.7M uses of the airsoft hashtag, you can only find 10 posts using Instagrams search function and nothing will be found in the reels section.
This needs to stop if our hobby wishes to grow to a wider audience however, I think that's exactly what Instagram is trying to stop with the barriers they've been placing as of late.

Part of the reasons I've slowed down on making content is because of the external forces working against me. I still love the game though, and I wanna make content but ive shifted my priorities to more brand friendly content on my other accounts as the potential is greater, however I am actually getting back into airsoft content when I can!

Poor guy needs a blues guitar track and a chill day. These platforms sadly just do not give a living RIP about the little guys or even the chill people, they just care about the toxic Mememes that run rampent. It's really sad BUT don't ever stop being who you are, keep making airsoft content it helps a lot of people and even give people lots a laughs, or do what YOU want but stick to you. The thing about passion is, you can't just stop having it. Maybe from your perspective as a content creator the income coming from your time and effort is a driving factor. But for me I have a day job and I create tactical content just for fun. I'm stressed about this shadow banning stuff too but aint nobody going to stop me from having tons of fun with the 3 people that actually follow me :)

You're 100% on point, almost all of my growth has come from a reddit post, meeting people IRL, Caber and Jet. I had my account removed from discovery because I posted a reel of me in uniform at a military pistol competition. RU-vid even shut down my airsoft live stream within a few mins being live.

That’s the problem with a lot of Social Media, you can post or say something’s that aren’t bad but then you get banned but not the accounts that post actually very horrible or at least questionable content just because what you said could be “offensive”, it’s bs and honestly idk where you can upload more airsoft content without getting banned. It sucks. Maybe TikTok? But I’m not sure how the airsoft stuff is on there

Finding a platform that is large enough to grow a following but is also receptive to airsoft is a pain. I just want to be able to share my Halo airsoft projects and IG used to be one of the best platforms for airsoft. Now it's not possible to grow. Really stupid

I decided to test this out just now (since I wanted an Insta account for my kits and dumb creations) and it definitely doesn't show much. What's crazy too is that the Meta AI thing doesn't want to search for airsoft either. When you go on the discover page and type a word in search, a blue arrow shows up that can activate the AI. As much as I hate AI, I tried searching for airsoft and the moment I finish typing the "t" at the end, the blue arrow becomes gray and I can't click it. It doesnt even seem to work directly when messaging it directly. It's really weird, but it gives you an idea of the bias that social media companies have. People complain about guns on the news, not softcore adult content or violent gore being on social media, so Instagram has no reason to shadowban the actual dark stuff.

It kinda sucks that airsoft and paintball is being tossed in with the gun crowd, the best part of airsoft/paintball is that it appeals to a vast audience of people. I got into airsoft because i couldn't own a firearm and have been hooked on airsoft for years.

Yeah my instagram grew to about 230 then just stopped randomly then dropped to 150 just out of nowhere and thats where ive stayed kinda gave up on posting

@@USAirsoft Mine stopped around 400 before I had to start paying for ads to gain new followers and for my content to go through. So yeah, "guns scary" unless you pay them. Kinda feels like a ransom sometimes, especially if like me, has a hobby-related business based on IG.

Instagram is doing this to airsoft content so they can "help with the problem" when airsoft dlhas nothing to do with the so-called "problem." Cause they are gonna be next. i had my account locked just for sharing an event ad for a local airsoft swapmeet. the venue was able to make the ad but a bunch of people got locked for sharing it on any meta service.

We talked a bit about this at SHOT, but as someone who is just starting up in broomstick content creation growing without shares has been such a challenge because I'm search engine banned on every other platform except Twitter and Reddit. It's kind of a damned if you do situation.

Its actually so annoying, The amount of work people do as content creator just to be shutdown. Most of my growth for Instagram are coming from Hosting games and meeting new faces, Discord and RU-vid. I dont know if this is new as well, But sometimes when people are searching me up on Instagram and they get everything right, My profile would show up with no display picture in the search bar. Most people wouldn't even click on that profile as most know its probably not the content creator their looking for. (What content creator wont have a display picture ? lmao) But, It is what it is. This wont stop me from creating content☺

I haven't grown on insta for at least a year and I've attempted to consistently post about airsoft and or military surplus collecting - I've talked to huge content creators via instagram and gotten amazing advice with surplus and or other things and it's honestly just a pain. Im not sure if mine is shadow banned or not but it's sucky. Idk what else to say

A good idea would be a hashtag they can't easily take away because it overlaps with something else to a degree. #plasticbb for example yields some airsoft images, otherwise #plasticpellet might also work.

Instagram, Facebook and even RU-vid - 5 bans on each or all in the last 2 years. I gave up on one Facebook Page and even got rid of a Blog I had. Not worth the aggravation in the end. I still post stuff for my guys to check out and enjoy. And Rumble, TikTok and Twitch...not worth my time.

There’s this thing called “Pentesting” in the cyber security world. It involves looking for cracks and vulnerabilities in any kind of automated system or software. I’d say we Pen-Test the AI that’s used to “recognize” the bang sticks in the photos you post by putting a “glaze” over the image before posting. It’s similar to what’s called an “Adversarial Attack” which is used to confuse the AI. I’m betting that many of the other accounts posting sexually explicit or violent content are using some sort of “Glazing” technique.

Twitter and collabs with as many non-airsoft RU-vidrs as possible is gonna be the only way to grow. One big problem, is that even if all of this nonsense were stopped tomorrow, most of the big airsoft channels have gone down the toilet over the past 3 or 4 years and are horribly inconsistent and no one has really come along to pick up the slack. Jet's content isnt what it used to be. Novritsch is well Novristch. Dutch is practically non-existent, Alfonse is all over the place on schedule. Silo, Kicking Mustang, as far as massive gameplay airsofters go, seem to be the only ones. Valiant on the lower subscriber end. Yeah, just seems airsoft RU-vid has tanked over the past few years and I don't think you can blame that completely on censorship. Wag is pretty decent at consistency, but its still hit and miss.

I’ve tried to stick to a video a week but demonetization screws that up badly. It can take up to a week for videos to get reviewed by a representative but that doesn’t always lead to approval so I have to try again and again. Consistency across the hobby overall isn’t too common though nor has it been.

The problem is that, to the government and social media heads, airsoft is little to no better than the dangerous and radical gun owners. It's why you see European nations regularly trying to push for regulation or outright banning of airsoft guns. Unfortunately, if you want to stop this shit treatment of airsofters, you have to throw your support behind the 2A community.
