Passed with a score of 90%, thanks to your videos and a few on line practice tests. I missed a few questions related new regulations for 2023. They are going to ask about drone registration rules and ID broadcasting. Your videos on charts, weather, metars, airspace, are spot on.

Thanks for all of the free info Mr. Mig!! I have watched 2 other paid courses and this is better/more info than some of the cheaper courses. The way you explain things really helps deepen understanding. I think its so important to explain the WHY behind the questions and you cover that very well.

It might help to remember MSL is determined by local barometric pressure whereas AGL is absolute.

I've watched several videos about airspace but yours is the only one that made sense to me. Thanks! I recently flew in an area. Before taking off I had an all clear from B34UFly and AirLoft and wasn't locked out by DJI. However, I later went back and looked at the section and saw the area had a dashed magenta BOX around it. Is that the same as a dashed magenta circle?
@MrMigsClassroom
@MrMigsClassroom Год назад
Glad they are helpful! As for the “magenta box”, it depends? Can you send a picture to me on Twitter? If it’s a magenta box connected to a blue or magenta circle and the box does not surround an airport, than it is different.

Awesome video (what a gem!)! My exam is scheduled in a few days 4/28/2023 and this helps a lot! Question though, on Class reverting after hours from E (sfc level) to G... Specifically, a small airport in Hastings, Nebraska where I live (HSI) -- no doubt there are many others that this question applies to: The Sectional Chart shows dashed magenta surrounding it, and the LAANC authorization apps, which I've been using for authorization here, show a grid surrounding the airport starting at "zero ft available for authorization" moving outward on the grid to 100', 200', 400' and then becoming Class G beyond. That "zero ft available" inner area has a couple parks/lakes I'd like to fly but cannot even request an authorization for a "zero ft" area on the grid. Now HERE's my question: The Chart Supplement for this airport (Hastings KHSI) states the CLASS E airspace hours, the open hours of the airport, then says "other times CLASS G." Does that mean that after hours (e.g. Saturday hours are only 6am-2pm) it reverts to Class G and I can fly without authorization throughout the entire area (similar as you described with Class D)? Those hours are also listed in the aloft app for the airport's "schedule,' but it doesn't specifically state that it reverts to Class G after hours. Here's a link to that supplemental aeronav.faa.gov/afd/20apr2023/nc_295_20APR2023.pdf

I am no lawyer, so I do not want to give legal advice here. I would suggest trying to call the airport or even the FAA. I believe they have a number on the drone zone website of the FAA. What you said, sounds logical to me, but I just like to error on the side of caution. Even if what you’re saying is accurate one issue I could see is if you were flying with a DJI they tend to also like to error on the side of caution, and might even restrict you, even if it does convert class G.

@@MrMigsClassroom Thanks so much! But, as I was drafting my question to the FAA I went back to review the sectional chart for this airport and I think I found the answer to my question! There is a note, printed in magenta, right next to the airport, that says "See NOTAMs/Supplement for Class E (sfc) eff hrs" ... So, assuming "eff hrs" translates to "effective hours," I think this answers my question(?), as the Sectional Chart directs the user to the Supplement for effective hours of Class E (and the Supplement clearly states Class G outside of operating hours). Do you concur (not asking for legal advice :) but does this sound like a reasonable interpretation)?

Just wanted clarification. You say around 15:29 that you don't need authorization if you breach the 700' in this Class E airspace. I thought the maximum height a drone can fly is 400' AGL. I thought you can never go over that unless you are flying max 400' over a building/tower and are within 400' of that object. Thank you.

Atlanta is not a good example of a typical Class B airspace because it's ceiling is at 12,500 ft MSL not the more common 10,000 ft MSL.

At 14:00 - How do you get ATC authorization to enter a class E if there is no control tower? Who would you contact?
@MrMigsClassroom

Use LAANC. Here is some information on it www.faa.gov/uas/getting_started/laanc#:~:text=How%20and%20when%20can%20drone,the%20exception%20for%20Recreational%20Flyers.

If your airport does not use LAANC then use FAADroneZone: faadronezone-access.faa.gov/#/
