AirVenturi Avenger Bullpup vs Daystate Pulsar -- Can a budget PCP hang with one that's 4X the price?

Yes, you read that right. We are comparing the AirVenturi Avenger Bullpup with a computer controlled, high end, British made bullpup. The Daystate Pulsar. Some people are going to lose their minds. Oh well.
Why do the comparison? First and foremost, when I saw the AirVenturi Avenger Bullpup the first thing that crossed my mind was it had a very similar look to the Pulsar. I've shot the Pulsar I know very well with that rifle is capable of. It's an excellent rifle. So this whole thing started with an idea that they would be interesting to compare because they had similar shapes and therefore reasonably similar ergonomics.
Noah, one of our original members and regular shooters, and the person that got me, PJ, into airguns as an adult has a Pulsar. His Pulsar, the one used in this video, is not stock. As explained in the video he upgraded the electronics with a Heli-board. It's also set up in .177 caliber.
The Avenger I have is set up in .22 caliber. For some viewers, this discrepancy will invalidate any comparison that we make during the video. If you're in that camp, I don't know that this video is going to satisfy you and you may want to spend your time elsewhere.
Here's another reason why you might not be satisfied with our comparison. It took about two weeks of planning to get a night where our schedules lined up for testing. The night arrived and we were hit by 20 to 25 mile an hour winds and very cold temperatures. We had intended to shoot from inside to a target outside the shop by 15 yards, which would've given us a 30 yard comparison. Having the last 15 yards going through a 25 mile an hour wind would have completely invalidated any accuracy testing. As a result we had to shorten the range to 20 yards. So the accuracy testing that we did was at 20 yards. If you think you can draw some conclusions from that great, if you don't think you can draw anything from that, OK. I'm telling you upfront that's the distance we shot from. Now you know and if you watch the video you can draw whatever conclusion you like.
So after two paragraphs worth of trying to convince you not to watch the video, here's what we did. Both of us shot at six bull's-eye targets. We shot five rounds at each target for a total of 30 rounds. We each shot the other's rifle as well as our own. I was familiar with the Pulsar...familiar enough to take a few sighters and then get to serious shooting. Noah had never shot the Avenger before, so he shot five or 10 rounds before he started shooting targets that counted.
After we finished shooting we sat down to talk through the features of both rifles. Obviously, accuracy is a big deal, but there are other things about rifles that contribute to a positive shooting experience and we had a pretty long list of things that we wanted to discuss back-and-forth about the two bullpups. We go pretty deep into our opinions, and in-depth reporting takes some time. This isn't a short video. Grab a coffee or some scones and spot of tea.
Here's a glimpse of the conclusions. The Pulsar is exquisitely built. You may or may not like the ergonomics, but the build quality is superb. The Avenger's stock is a nice step up from the original Avenger rifle. As you would expect, the Avenger's trigger can't really compare to the "mouse click" of the Pulsar's electronic trigger, but that doesn't mean the Avenger trigger is bad.
If you are expecting us to declare the Avenger a better rifle than the Pulsar, look away. This isn't that type of comparison.
What we really want to know, and we'd be curious to hear your experiences if you have either rifle, is this...
Can the Avenger "hang" with a rifle four times it's price?

No shame in spending $400 on a PCP that performs as well (if not better ) than a $1, 600 one, amazing. Fit and finish may not be better but in the end, accuracy counts. Very informative and good video, thank you chaps.

@@WiscAirGunners i just gifted my bullpup .25cal to a person with a hand pump because they do not have a pcp. and i also gave them a txt file with all my advice and tunes for that avenger. i used two monocore vented baffles and no supresser at all and just drilled the second monocore out to ahalf inch and slid it onto the barrel with thick felt in between the barrel spacer and another between the two monocore baffles. all of it centered with the o-rings that come with them, and very quiet. and i am getting a custom avenger next in rifl format. smiles enjoy... wish i knew how to open and take out the hammerspring and change it for better stuff. but being blind , doing that disassembly without way more details than i listen to in any vvideo , is not going to happen. need those details or i won't do it. smiles but what i could do with the details, if i knew what tool and where the fastener was exactly, and how to adjust or fiddle with this or that, well if i had all that i would start by removing the barrel , which i have never done, do not know how to start , because was never verbally told where the screws are that hold it on. giggles, yeah no one ever siad hey they are right here in this area and ther are this many and you use this allen key . nope they just assume that everyone listening can see. uggg. well i would drill the barrel ports out larger and bevel them on the outside and polish the inside and ge more energy that the rifle currently can acheive. next, i would find a magazine that feels like the avengers but is deeper and i would cut the bolt housing back that far and make the new deeper mag work. i mean it just fits over the end of the barrel in that fitting there right, giggles. and what next, hmmm i would figure out how to decrease thereg a bit at a time by shooting it down pst the desired reg pressure so the reg is below that pressure and then the reg should adjust down till it starts getting tight and you know that you are there and should stop before you damage it. duh... but there are people not that intelliget around so shhhh. well thanks for makig better videos than i do friend, because if i could see, well i would be doing alot more than recovering from a broken hip. these days. good day

Funny you used a Dodge Dart. When I was in high school my car was a 57 Chevy. My cousin and I were our on the drag ( in the 60's it was from one hamburger stand to another) a person from my autoshop pulled along side and wanted to race his car against me and it was a Dodge Dart. I agreed when the light change his car front end came off the ground and did this every time he changed gears. When I caught up with hume ha had taken a wreak Dodge Supper Bee with the 440 magnum and installed the Dodge Supper Bee's complete drivetrain and including the 440 Magnum engine in the Dodge Dart. I had several rats that were not fans of the Venturi Bullpup in 177. I bought it to see if a rat would run off or drop on the spot with that small caliber. I adjusted the reg and hammer spring down to minimum and shot 8.02 grain Polymag pellets out at 935 fps. Added the Donny FL with the shroud extension, and it’s backyard at midnight quiet. Each rat went down lights out. Pin point accuracy. I just don’t understand why the rats don’t like it.

Thanks for that. I agree whole-heartedly. Tyler Patner gave a great answer to a question yesterday on Instagram on the Pyramyd Air page. One of the things most of us don't experience is the consistency you get airgun to airgun with higher priced models. Our goal for this video was to see if the Avenger could "hang," not to imply that they were equal.

Great video. As the owner of a Brocock Bantam Sniper XR Magnum in .25 and a Benjamin Gunnar in .22, which are both rather lengthy, I may have to consider an Avenger bullpup in either .177 or .22. The benefit of getting one in .22 is I already have .22 ammo for the Gunnar, which hopefully something would work well in both. For a .177 I would expect a higher shot count than the .22 version. Even though I’d have to buy ammo specific for the Avenger, the cost of .177 is considerably less than even .22 pellets and slugs. I have some decisions to make.

Hello and good evening. I am very new to airgunning and looking to buy my first. I am looking for something around the $1000 range that can be used for hunting, personal defense, and home defense. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Oh yeah, I live up in Eagle River. 🧀🧀🧀

There is lots of debate on airguns for home defense. Many are strongly against that idea, and there are solid reasons for that. If I set that aside, you'll probably need to decide what you are wanting to hunt in order for me to make anything close to a recommendation.

What is the point of this...you use a single shot tray/ loading for each rifle and then talk about all the upgrades on the pulsar.Really..a comparison beyond belief

177 vs 22? Lame comparison. What a waste of time.

It sounds like the pulsar is an over priced priced piece of crap.

I wouldn’t go that far. It’s an excellent airgun. There are airguns that are just as accurate that cost significantly less.
