Yeah that is common to happen. The rubber either dries out and crumbles to pieces, or it reverts back to crude oil and melts everywhere.

SMC Electronics does not have belts any longer. Could you please let me know where you purchased your belt from. My unit has the same problem.

I have the same issue, and the transport is really creaky and squeaky. I was thinking I need to lubricate some parts, but perhaps it just needs a new belt.

Check my comment regarding the belt I used to fix my AIWA MX100

It seems to be 9 in. long square .075 wide belt. Or, in metric, 22 cm long and 2mm wide belt. Or, most commonly "folded lenght" 115 mm. Ebay has some belts for this VCR for $15-25 each. But you can also but an assortment of various sizes, e.g. 20 pcs from 110 to 135 mm for less than $10. Just make sure you order 2mm wide belts as most of the kits seem to have only 1mm wide belts.

@@finntexan416 thanks, this was helpful, my MX100 belt is weak and I coudn't find the belt size in metric anywhere! So much cheaper to buy a generic belt the same size. Just ordered one for about 2,50€ 10x less the price for the specific model belt.
