Who remembers BET in the golden era?...106 & Park, Rap City, Access Granted, How I'm Livin', Citas World, Hits From the Street, Maad Sports, Comic View, BET Uncut, Top 25 Countdown... damn those were the glory days
CoopTheArtist Absolutely, thanks to the internet/social media killing our music video countdown shows like 106 & TRL, The Breakfast Club & other radio stations have become the replacement for those
NOTHING was realer to a late 80's/early 90's kid than the day aj & free announced they were leaving 106 & park, and aj started crying on live national television. our little lives were forever changed! 😭😭😭
Who else remembers bein a shorty when Rap city in the Basement came on and that show wit the animated cartoon thot "Citas world" if u ain't familiar please look it up shits hilarious 😂
_106_ with him and Free hosting. Those were the days. That's show got super kiddie once they left and it just wasn't the same. BET at the time was popping.
my after school line up was. hits from the streets. citas world. rap city the basement. 106 & park and depending on what day it was either access granted or a black star premier movie
Theses youngins will never understand how addicting 106 and park was.. every afternoon after school and then freestyle fridays gave me life... especially when you screaming at the tv who winning lol.
Back when Ja rule, DMX, Sisco, Black Rob, bow wow, CMB, Jaged edge, Sega dreamcast and the shiny suit era was winning lol. 1999 to the early 2000's.. When the economy was booming, no fake butt implants, all natural beautiful Ebony's. And everybody had that Nelly country grammar album bumping in their Portable CD player's lol. And they didn't show the movie Baby Boy every night. Ahhhh, the memories.
Vince yo daddy McMahon. Word bruh 🤣🤣🤣. That shit was for the culture. I can relate. I still have Nelly CD, but it was "Nellyville" tho. I used to play the hell outta "Hot In Herre" & "Air Force Ones", on my Sony Walkman lol.
Angel Lemond the fact that you said host 2 cornballs that replaced AJ and free were dope just gave away your age right there...your opinion is null and void in these comments ma👉🏾✌🏾
Good morning black brethren. The streets aren't safe, so please take the necessary precautions in order to stay safe and out of the way. I know that the adversities of life may push you into a state of temporary or permanent depression, but you must always remember what our ancestors did for us to be free and enjoying the few amenities that we have. They fought, bled and died so that the future generation can have a chance. Please keep y'all head up, always remember we were bred from warrior's blood, so we must always rebel when the opposition shows their ugly Head. Take care my ppl, and always be proud of who you are ✊🏾🖤✊🏾🖤✊🏾🖤✊🏾 #blackways
nvm I didn't saw you reply text ,but on my notification your reply still there... so I thought you deleted but anyways .... you got a social problem , in every video of the breakfast club you always said the same thing about "good morning black men" and etc......, STOP PULLING THE RACE CARD , IT SEEMS THAT YOU HATE WHITE MEN, BUT WITHOUT WHITE MEN WE WOULDN'T BE THIS FAR ON TECHNOLOGY ... THEY HAVE CREATED USEFUL THINGS THAT WE USED ON OUR DAILY BASIS ... DONT GET ME WRONG BLACK PEOPLE HAVE CONTRIBUTED TOO... REMEMBER JESUS SAID LOVE YOUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS LIKE YOUR OWN SELF YET HE DIDN'T SAID ONLY IF HE WAS YOUR COLOR ....
David Murillo you lost me at Jesus and what the "white man" created 🤣🤣🤣🤣. You're saying I have a social, listen young man, I work at nights, go to school in the mornings, and on top of all if that, I'm husband and a father. It's a shame that you said that "white man created technology" garbage, you sound like a Slave and still suffering from that Christopher Columbus syndrome. I e acknowledged what happened to my ppl, talked about the 120 million of the tainoes and Arawak ppl that were slaughtered. Black ppl had all this, but in a simpler form back in ancient time sir, white ppl stole it and branded it their and makes us look dumb. I'm closing, I'll say this to you, NOTHING IS NEW UNDER THE SUN, let that sink in.
I agree! I think music video countdown shows should comeback. Music isn't being promoted the same way that it used to be. I think those shows could help keep us in the know of who's who, what's new in music, etc.
Brandi Moore I agree with you, my niece is 14 and she is going to high school and I tell her about 106 all of the time, and she says her friends would love watching music videos on tv like how we did. they need more exposure in our culture when it comes to black music.
My brotha looks younger now 12-15 years later after the Predator braids are gone. But no on the real, 106 & Park was banging. AJ & Free. Back when BET & MTV actually PLAYED music videos. I'll never forget the show--how it used to be as a young brotha
Y'all remember the afternoon/evening line on BET? I think it was Hits from the streets Cita's world Rap city basement 106&park Man those were good days but now all they show is a lot of tv series smh
AJ is a legend to us that were in our teens in the early 2000s. Him and Free hosting..the whole era of music...Nelly, 3lw, Ashanti, Fabolous, B2k. I remember when Kanye first came on 106 and Beyonce was there. when she first went solo. I doudt any era can compare to when AJ and Free had it on lock from the jump.
Before all the social media i remember we could call in to vote for our favorite song to make the countdown....i would get hyped hearing Free's voice on the prompt lol
I miss Hits from the Streets too!!! BET give me a job!!! Yes I am putting myself out there...they need younger people who are business savvy and tapped into politics, entertainment, and who have an appreciation for old school hip hop but may know a few mumble rap songs lol
Yee is Great, Envy has improved Drastically, Charlamagne has Matured before our Eyes...geez stop the hate this a newday, that lame corny comment section phase is dead.
Loving this one thanks for sharing very information blessed love to all knowledge is power hopefully everyone pays attention keep up the good work 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
106 & Park debuted my sophomore year in college in 2000 and it was great! I watched it everyday after classes- the one time me and my college roommate got along lol :-) My favorite men of BET AJ & Laz Alonso! AJ looks even better without those dreds and has a natural presence and at 42 he looks all of 30! He's very easy going and such a natural on screen
I'm still trying to find the full last episode of 106 & Park when Aj & Free came back to host you really felt the authenticity and they made the show so fun and they were real natural. Big Tigga & Julissa held it down too. They were the 2nd best hosts
I used loved Freestyle Friday on 106 & Park. I member they had a blind Asian dude, can't member his name, but he could freestyle his ass off! He won a lot of battles on that show too
I'm sorry to hear about the firing of Stephen Hill from BET. I met AJ while being employed at Newark Liberty Int'l Airport. I was employed as a Parking Attendant/Cashier. He drove in my exit lane at the airport. I think that he graduated from St. Benedict's Preparatory H.S. Newark, New Jersey.
There's been alot of great R&B artists that I see are getting less attention and buzz and I think BET should bring back "106 & Park". I use to check out that show's countdown just to see whos new and who to watch out for but nowadays we just hear of people everyday that we dont know but they already got like over 10 million views. Plus I think it would help to garner more attention for R&B artists that need a platform to promote and grow their fan base.
yeah i agree, and I think it would be successful if it were strictly R&B. I don't think people would be as interested if there's were R&B with today's mix of mainstream HipHop artists. The show would have to cater to the old heads, because the younger generation will get theres online. There's a lot of older R&B heads who aren't always online, especially the 50 and up crowd. I've even got female cousins around my age that love the hell out of Bruno Mars's new radio singles, but don't even realize it's Bruno Mars. They don't know who KING, NAO, Ro James, and the rest of these new artists are.
It was great seeing A.J. in this light. I'm a little older than the 106th and Park fan base. Though I've always been aware of him through the show and on Extra, I never got this impression of him as a personality. He's apparently, that dude. ..continued blessings to him and his family. It would be nice to hear him consistently as a radio/pod cast personality. His maturity seems needed.
