What I've gathered is that this song is about how you shouldn't compare your sorrows to others. The violin is his sorrow, bc he talks of playing it for his therapist. He calls it the smallest because he downplays his struggles, so to him they seem small next to others'. If you're struggling, your struggles are valid. Even if someone has it worse, your struggles are still valid.

This song is literally the mood when you say your problems to someone and they just say "okay but there's someone somewhere who's living worse" I mean guys we don't care a problem is a problem even if it feels shitty compared to others we just want help and attention.

And then people turn around and say "but they were always so happy" or "they had so much good in their life" because they don't stop to consider that everyone can experience things differently. A minor inconvenience for someone can be a trigger for someone else.
