Is it just me or does the Viggen have a kind of spooky vibe about it? I love flying it in gloomy weather conditions, being guided in on that giant green crt display.
Nice Viggen videos. It's a great plane and was ahead of its time in some aspects. A shame we don't have the fighter version in DCS with the datalink. That would be a game changer for many :) And yes, as a Swede I'm a little biased of course. However you would have been to if you grew up having these lovely birds in the air almost every day. If you ever get the chance to see one of the two currently flying Viggens, don't hesitate. Feeling the power IRL is a out of this world experience :)
Hey Casmo. Thank you for the video. It would be helpful if you left a link or details of the mission you were doing as a follow-along to fly the same mission ourselves
In my opinion the Viggen is fashinating, but, at the same time, one of the most frustrating DCS aircraft. I've often been struggled with target points that drift in another position on the ground making themselves difficult to kill. Yes you can "fix" them with your radar, but this method is not accurate. If you own the Viggen you know what I mean. Cheers
This is particularly a problem if you spend a fairly long period of time over water initially. The TERNAV relies on undulating terrain to help calculate and automatically fix the INS. The Caucasus is fine, but it’s a bit flat in the desert so this doesn’t always work as well in Persian Gulf. When transiting over water for long periods, try having a waypoint over a good terrain feature for you to get a good fix. Remember that with the radar off (A0) you can fix the INS by using the T1/T2 buttons when overflying the point if you prefer it to using a radar fix. Using this, you can sort the INS with something much less vague than a landmass point - you can pick a road/rail intersection or a bridge, and that helps a LOT. Also, make sure to correctly set the QFE. Even the decimal places between numbers can be sort of set by using your mouse wheel to roll through - if the QFE was 1234.5, you set it to halfway between 1234 and 1235. Lastly, there’s a reason why you get a LOT of rocket and bombs and drop them on one pass. Fly with a wingman too, and plaster the area! I hope that helps you ;)
@@ghostdog688 Oh thanks I didn't know about hard turns, I'll keep it in mind. But generally this happens when you're flying your preset flight plan, and even when you enter target Lat/long coordinates. Most of the times you have to fix the target point that shifted a bit outside messing your mission up. Even worst when you land for refueling and rearming: if you take off, 100% chances your target point is screwed. :-)
